@Lola I've been jumping from game to game in anticipation for DA III. Wish you could play SWTOR too though, that'd be fun

I've been trying to finish FF7 but I have so little patience for it these days. The dodgy controls are really starting to grind my gears, the constant enemy attacks are making me want to throw my controller at the TV, the turn based fights are driving me potty and the pixelated everything gives me a massive headache... However, I like the story so I'm slowly slogging through it lol.

If you're into JRPGs, I recommend Dragon's Dogma. I'm currently playing it and loving it. I'm hoping DA3 borrows a bit of inspiration. Especially the armor customization. You can actually put clothing underneath your armor pieces too so the customization is endless...

I've yet to see another pawn look similar. It gives you iconic looks but not at the sacrifice of customization like DA2 did. It also appeals to any taste. If you want more realistic looking armor, they have that. If you want to dress your character up with sex appeal, you can do that too. It's interesting. Almost feels like cosplaying in that game. Doesn't have much story but it makes up for it with a fun world to explore.

Oh I had Dragon's Dogma and hated it LOL! Didn't like the story and the game was glitching out on me for sh!t. I did like the customisation and the combat system though.

Outside pop-up every few feet and some framerate issues, I haven't noticed any glitches in the game myself.

But yea, it doesn't have much of a story. I think it's more about exploration in that game kinda like Skyrim.

Most people don't remember the Templar Order as it once was. In the days when the Chantry was still young, templars were known as the Inquisition and combed the land in search of all dangers to humanity—whether they came in the form of blood mages, abominations, cultists or heretics. It was a dark and terrifying time in the history of Thedas, and one that only ended when the Chantry convinced the Inquisition to unite under the banner of their common faith.[2] This agreement, the Nevarran Accord, was struck in 1:20 Divine.[3] The Inquisition was then divided in two groups: the Seekers of Truth and the Templar Order,[1] with the purpose of the Order becoming that of guardian and warden rather than hunter.

LOL Yeah, that's from the Templar Order wiki.

What made me rage quit and sell the thing was that it kept glitching my saved game, so I'd start a new one and that would then corrupt the next time i'd upload it and replace it with the previous game I'd made, but with all the quests deleted that I'd already completed previously. After the 4th time of it happening I gave up on it.

My Catholic school's motto was "Seek truth".

It's got absolutely nothing to do with anything but it makes me feel like a Seeker because of it :|

I'll try the tea, Vamp. Thanks! I do love tea so that shouldn't be hard to do. :)

Have you tried Little Big Planet, Lola? It's very cute and kiddie-ish but it's also fun! =) My other big recommendation should come as no surprise... Assassin's Creed! =D The first 2 installments should be really affordable now. Even Brotherhood is probably like $20 these days. Though it isn't an RPG in that it lets you build your own character and stuff but it's still good storytelling, IMO. Good luck!

Damn that sucks. TBH, I didn't think I would like it. I use to enjoy JRPGs but this generation is really bad for them. Final Fantasy is dead to me. The only JRPGs I can say I've enjoyed the past few years is Tales of Vesperia, Dragon's Dogma, Dark Souls, and Demon's Souls. That's about it.

Dragon's Dogma has a lot of flaws but it's a nice first attempt for them. They're apparently making it into a franchise because it sold really well. I wish more games allowed their character customization to play into gameplay like that game. Even gender plays into gameplay. You can't talk to these female bandits if you're male. If you're a fat character, you can avoid heavy winds in the valley with the storm. Tall muscular characters have higher strength. Smaller characters have high magic efficiency. Longer limbs have further reach and bigger hitboxes. I wish Bioware did something like that with their character creator. Although, technically, they kinda are with the backgrounds and all. I hope they push it a little further in DA3 like DD did.

Yeah the customisation was extremely detailed! I never got the stage where I noticed the perks of different body types since it was always glitch out by the time I hit the first city.

I heard the romance option was really weird. One person said they accidentally ended up with a child LI without realising because they'd done the most quests for that character or something?

yeah lol at DD's "romance".

Other than that I really enjoyed the game. The Duke story arc was interesting. The actual Dragon story was...uh.

There was great tension everytime I ventured out cuz I knew I was gonna be jumped. Goblins? No biggie, but then you see this giant shadow passing over and, "Oh! Snap!" Lol. Had me tense everytime.

There's Kingdom of Amalur? AC 2 & 3? DX:HR which I'm sure you've played. Or, sum Saints Row 2? SR3 is pretty good, but SR2 is a better game, imo.

Man, the romance swing in that game is awful. You don't really have full control over it since it can be vague lol. If you see a glowing halo around a character you don't want to romance, you better beat them down to the ground and lose all affinity. I gave my Arisen's Bond to Mercedes and I still couldn't romance her. Instead, I had the freaking innkeeper running up to my character and kissing him. That scene was beyond awkward...

It pissed me off so much I immediately killed the innkeeper right after that scene. Just so the game couldn't make the "romance" check mistake again.

Yea, I wish I could pull the Murder Knife out in that game like this.

Is it bad I laughed hard at some of those scenes? Some of the responses are classic. Especially from Alistair. I want to know who exactly writes those part in the DA games. I'll bet Lukas does them.

Just wanted to pop in real quick and say that you guys are awesome. :)

My rest of the Christmas season should be pretty laid-back, so hopefully I'll be around the thread more for awhile. Maybe even try my hand at that Cullen fic for the new year.

Anyway, thanks for being so great to come back to day after day. :D

Lol, what's funny is the second time the game did a check for my romance it didn't give me the innkeeper. It gave me Madeline. So, it worked but I guess it had to since his body sat on the beach Lol. I have no idea if he was going to respawn but I'd imagine he has to since he's an important NPC. I didn't wait around to find out. Needless to say, I was happy with the second romance check outcome.

I felt very bad about laughing at a couple of the scenes (got to love Alistair and Shale), but Dog? How could he:( ? I'm surprised he had any companions left (approval -100)!

It is quite depressing when there is a lull between games, particularly when you have enjoyed playing them so much.  It can be hard to fill the void with other games that are equally as good.

Re games there is Divinity 2 The Dragon Knight Saga. I've heard that Dishonered is good but I have not played it. I liked Castlevania Lords of Shadow (although not an RPG) and both of the Fallout games (I know they can be bleak but I like the playing style). But I guess you've all probably played those! Both the Batman games are good too.

I generally play on the XBox, but I have heard great things about Guild Wars 2 for the PC/Mac. It is tempting but those kind of games seem to take over your life!

Lola, there's always Baldur's Gate EE! Less likely that you've played that recently, and it's sure to run on your computer. LOL Downloaded it for iPad but haven't gotten very far yet. Mostly just feeling strange bouts of deja vu at every detail.

Cullen Origin Story Challenge!

WHAT: Write up a short "thing" imagining Cullen's background/origin story. It can be a story or just a description. Doesn't have to be your particular
headcanon; sky's the limit and feel free to share one that's just fun to consider.

LENGTH: **ANY LENGTH! ** (Recognizing that if a story strikes, it may be longer than 1000 words)  If it's less than 500, you can just post it here. Otherwise, post it elsewhere and link, such as from a blog entry here on BSN or tumblr or fanfiction.net (if it's a story) or wherever.

DUE DATE: New Years Day (let's shoot to post that evening U.S. time, but anytime that day works for those in other timezones).

PROMPTS TO GET OUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING:

1. Is Cullen an only child or does he have siblings?
2. Is he related to any mages?
3. Did he always want to be a templar? If so/If not, why did he join?
4. Was he a good kid or a naughty kid?
5. Did he have lots of friends growing up? Loner?
6. Was the Amell/Surana his first love? If not, who was?
7. How old was he when he joined the Order?
8. What "class" are his parents? High, low, middle?
9. Are they still alive?
10. Did he eat his vegetables?
11. Big city kid? Country kid?
12.
In high school, voted most likely to... Join the Templar Order? Marry
into the  nobility? Run into the wildness to seek our the Dalish? Best
looking? class Clown?

And that'll definitely work on my crappy PC? I've been thinking about getting it but I wasn't sure if it would work or not.
