I'm honestly not sure what will happen with the Templars in DAIII. In Asunder, Lambert (who is a Seeker) separated the Templars from Chantry control. But that wasn't really his call to make in the first place, as he's a Seeker and not a Templar (I mean he was one once, but he doesn't really have any Templar authority anymore, just Seeker authority). And then he died! So even including the Templars who aren't super loyal to the Chantry, I'm not sure any Templars are really rebelling after Asunder. They only temporarily took orders from Lambert when he was alive and they certainly don't have to now that he's dead. 

It's my understanding from that january interview by David Gaider that the Seekers do have that authority, since they sit above the Templars in the chain of command. The templar knights divine run the day to day biz, but Seekers watch over them.  His example is like internal affairs. But then, I wouldn't expect that Internal Affairs to have the supreme authority to walk in one day and say, 'Sorry, City Mayor, we've decided to take all the police from you. We all quit. See ya.' So, I also find it hard to fathom. But Lambert, when nullifying the Accord, also had the backing of all fifteen Knight Commanders, which don't quite seem like the Knights Divine DG talks about... but maybe they are. I frankly find it all confusing and hope it gets sorted.

It all just sounds like a hot mess.

Even hotter with Cullen involved, as he should be.

Or did you not end up using that in your story?  I thought, if you did use it, at least there's something on here to start over, if you planned on doing that.

I imagine him being all... girly if I did that, but it might be interesting. Of course, I don't actually have a Merrill LI save game... I could do the Isabela jump-your-bones one, but it's a bit more tricky to swap out Hawke.

Heh heh, not really, except for Lola's awesome new DA3 how-to-meet-Cullen-as-companion ideas.

In other news, it seems the Cullen wars have started again on dragonageconfessions. The one today was particularly harsh, as it quotes some not so cheery things the DA:O Cullen writer, Sheryl Chee, once said about him.

For an interesting history, a bunch of the links to various things she & DG said about him were included in a forum discussion which started here, once upon a time.

R2: Ouch, how harsh is that! However, rough Cullen sex could be fun... It wouldn't get her out of his system though, there were so many references to him being in love with Amell, even in DA2. Besides, it worked with Fenris LOL.

I dunno, I think him replacing Merill would be kinda sweet... It would show a more vulnerable side to him, like he was holding onto her because it could be the only chance he gets to be close to her.

I just read some of that thread, one particular post sums up my thoughts on Cullen perfectly:

"The thing that makes me so interested in Cullen is that he seems fundamentally incapable of prioritising his own happiness over what he sees as the greater good. Even if his perception of duty and the greater good are somewhat skewed, there's a nobility there that makes me want to reach out to him."

THIS is exactly what drew my attention to Cullen in the first place. We've not had a companion in either Dragon Age game that has put aside their own happiness to such an extent that you can physically see them suffering for it as a result, he is completely unselfish to the point where I think he feels like he doesn't deserve to be happy or have something to call his own. He's punishing himself for having wants and desires that he doesn't feel worthy of.

I get pretty annoyed when people presume we like him because he has that "creepy possessive stalker" vibe... Trust me, I have no interest in men like that, having dated one or two and been stalked for several years when I was younger.

HAHA! In the Gallows during Act 2 there are two Templar and Mage females that keep walking up and down past Cullen, swaying their hips and strutting around like they're on a cat walk, it looks like they're desperately trying to fight for his attention, whilst he's totally oblivious, instead staring off into the distance looking thoughtful, it's quite amusing.

... I wonder what he thinks about whilst standing around the Gallows courtyard? Hm, someone should write a fic about it!

Possessive, perhaps... but I never got "creepy stalker" out of it. I've also had a few creepy stalkers. One was an ex and the worst was my Sunday school teacher when I was 10. I can handle a bit of possessiveness now and again.

Aside from this, his character seems to evolved over the two games. He seemed to be more self-assured in DA2 so I don't think he would still put off that same vibe that some found creepy. I can see him marking his territory, however... and it would be fin to watch!

Apparently the woman who wrote Cullen (I'm DA:O) meant for him to be creepy, thankfully Greg Ellis brought a sense of depth to his character beyond "creepy Templar." I wonder what he'd be like to talk to as a companion? I was watching Awakening Anders clips on YouTube, it was nice to hear what is essentially Cullen's voice sounding cheerful. I'd love to here him talk freely about something other than Templar business.

Ya, Sunday school teacher turned out to be a pedophile who had a thing for little blond girls and I thankfully escaped mostly unscathed. Rumor of a restraining order went around, he was booted from the church and fled to glorious California.

Aaaaaanyway... I like the idea that Cullen would try really hard to be mostly busniess yet have some moments of happy pop through. More so if he's your LI. I would hope a good romance would let him open up a bit more.

Again, it's only with a number 2 pencil; I'm really bad at drawing lightly and I don't know that many art techniques, if any. I only draw by looking at something and trying to duplicate it. I wasn't planning on making his head that big >< If I want to show more of him, I'll need to use other pieces of paper.

The thing about that thread, tho, is later Sheryl say explicitly that she never meant Him to be creepy stalker, that that was sparked by DG's creepy romance dialogue. So some of that I think is taken out of context.

I did imagine him to be a young, fairly normal kid torn between his hormones and his duty. Like a more serious Alistair. Later on we decided we needed a templar survivor in the post-Uldred tower, and since people seem to enjoy it when they see people from their past, I decided to make it Cullen. In the beginning, he is sympathetic to the mages, but he comes away very changed by the things Uldred and the demons do to him.

As for the creepy stalker tendencies--er... I think that may have been started by David Gaider's little Cullen Romance snippet. I never imagined him as a creepy stalker.

I think it would depend on his situation. I'd like to think that he'd get to the point during DA3 that his feelings for our pc are so strong that he allows himself to have a little happiness even if he knows it's only fleeting. Though I fear that if we play as a Mage it'll probably end badly for the romance because I can't see him ditching the Order or keeping their relationship secret, unless for some reason he is no longer in the Order anymore for whatever reason.

Something else I'd like to hear is Cullen talking softly/being gentle to our pc as he falls for her and romances her. We catch a glimpse of it in DA:O when he says it would have broken his heart to strike the killing blow if your female Mage had failed her Harrowing.

Man how annoying would it be if we could flirt with him throughout the whole game only for him to shoot us down just as it looks like they are going to kiss, like what happens in ME2 if you try to romance Samara. I think I'd throw my controller through the TV screen lol.

OMG I finally posted the first chapter of my new fic Origins of a new Beginning

I must say that writing another story is actually helping the creative juices to get flowing for my other fanfic. A Mage of A Circle, I have several more chapters written for it, but I don't like the direction they were heading in, or maybe it's just the flow of it. Anyways, I have changes in my head that I will eventually make to those chapters. Yayz. That fic is almost done, so I am glad I started something new.
