His chances are exponentially higher... I feel Cullen always had a chance at being a companion and at least a major part of DA3 because he just STOOD OUT to me, a newcomer to the world of Thedas and even RPGs in general, when I first played DA2. Not so much in DA:O, where I never noticed him until I came to the BSN and heard people mention he was in it.
Then the survey leak happened, and he was there (it's so obviously him). And Greg Ellis confirming accidentally that he was back in the studio as Cullen.
Only thing that makes me worried is the tremendous amount of BSN hatred for Cullen, and the way, way, way over-exaggeration of his fan support. There are basically about 10 of us who regularly post here and really like him as a character. That's pretty much it. But that gets translated as 100s of lusty fans who demand their "sexy templar <333" be in DA3 OR ELSE!!!

So, does that make all the other devs oompa loompas? Or just the writers?

Yeah, he really did stand out in DA2... or at least, he did to me lol. Sometimes I wonder if DA2 serves not only as a story set up to DA3 and Cassandra, but for Cullen's companion status in DA3 too. Then other times I feel like maybe Cullen stood out more than intended (just like DA:O) and it was all just a fluke.
Gaider once said that he found it strange how certain characters that you never expect end up getting a big following. I think Cullen is definitely one of them!

Is that why Mr. Gaider isn't posting anymore? I mean, his interview about BSN being toxic on the OT forum? And where is Brushyourteeth...I haven't seen her in awhile. =(

Both her computers broke, they're in the shop getting fixed so she should be back soon!

So, in light of what we've discovered over the past few months surrounding DA3, how do you feel about Cullen's chances as a potential companion now, compared to before all the details surfaced?
I personally feel that our chances have increased significantly from when I first joined this thread. Back then I figured we'd be lucky if we even got a cameo out of him.

Thinking about it, it's kinda bizarre how much of a following Cullen's acquired, especially considering he's only ever been a relatively unimportant npc. Stranger still is that Cullen's popularity began in DA:O, in which he had even less of a presence than DA2 and was (generally) considered less attractive than his DA2 model. If you put together every possible interaction with Cullen from both games it wouldn't even amount to 15 minutes.
This oblivious, slightly awkward, (seemingly) socially inexperienced Templar and mere npc has generated more attention (both good and bad) than some of the companions themselves! And it goes beyond just this thread, I've found hundreds, maybe even thousands of fanfic, fan-art, photo manipulations, head swaps, poems and video tributes dedicated to this man and it's not JUST because "he fancied the F!Mage Warden and had a face lift in DA2". Sure, he has a large following of women and gay men, but he also seems to have quite a sizable staight male and lesbian fanbase too.
His personal story arc actually interests people. His (potential) crush on the Fem!Mage Warden in DA:O, his torture at the hands of demons and bloodmages in KinlochHold, the breakdown that led to him being sent to a Greenfell to recover, his eventual transfer to Kirkwall and subsequent promotion through the Templar ranks to Knight Captain status despite his young age, and finally the realisation that his superior had become corrupt leading him to eventually aid Hawke (a potential mage of all things) in slaying the Knight Commander. On paper it all seems indepth and incredibly dramatic and if you didn't know any better you'd be forgiven for thinking that I'd just described a full companions story arc... but all these events, everything that we've learnt about him (that we know to be 100% true) has played out in under 15 minutes of screen time, and we've barely even scratched the surface! We've seen his personal growth in-game at first hand, yet we know very little about him. We don't even know for sure if he has a Surname!
When you at it objectively, it's not surprising that DG seems somewhat shocked by his level of popularity. Yet, after reading this back, to an outsider it would be equally surprising if he wasn't made a companion. Crazy isn't it.
<snip>
(Figured I'd add that in for effect!)![]()
Ok I think I've finished waxing lyrical for one evening LOL!

I guess, but then everyone takes breaks from BSN. You should anyway. Besides he's got shyte to do. There were times when I was like, "Why are you on the forum all the time , David? Don;t you have a game to make?"
Lol.
As much as I enjoy his posts and whatnot, (even when he --unintentionally, I think--serves us up as fodder to the evil darkspawn game journos..sigh..) I like to think he's busy making a kick ass game.
Altho, David, this thread is safe. You know that. And we have muffins. You like muffins, David?
