His chances are exponentially higher... I feel Cullen always had a chance at being a companion and at least a major part of DA3 because he just STOOD OUT to me, a newcomer to the world of Thedas and even RPGs in general, when I first played DA2. Not so much in DA:O, where I never noticed him until I came to the BSN and heard people mention he was in it.

Then the survey leak happened, and he was there (it's so obviously him). And Greg Ellis confirming accidentally that he was back in the studio as Cullen.

Only thing that makes me worried is the tremendous amount of BSN hatred for Cullen, and the way, way, way over-exaggeration of his fan support. There are basically about 10 of us who regularly post here and really like him as a character. That's pretty much it. But that gets translated as 100s of lusty fans who demand their "sexy templar <333" be in DA3 OR ELSE!!!

Yeah, he really did stand out in DA2... or at least, he did to me lol. Sometimes I wonder if DA2 serves not only as a story set up to DA3 and Cassandra, but for Cullen's companion status in DA3 too. Then other times I feel like maybe Cullen stood out more than intended (just like DA:O) and it was all just a fluke.

Gaider once said that he found it strange how certain characters that you never expect end up getting a big following. I think Cullen is definitely one of them!

So, does that make all the other devs oompa loompas? Or just the writers?

Well, I guess Darrah stopped tweeting enigmatic images with which to amuse us and themselves...

Thank the Maker Gaider doesn't have his twitter..under protection, or whatever it is most of the DA ppl have. Some kinda game dev witness protection program. Idk.

No friggin' official info. It's the middle of Jan. ...ugh..

Ha! hahaha! I think it's just the writer's. They are the Oompa Loompa's.And the Writer's Pit is the Chocolate Factory.

Oh, the awful things they do to naughty fans..*shivers*. Then they rub in your face w/ a moral of the story song and dance.  Double shivers.

Well, I'm inclined to think it wasn't a complete fluke. I mean, given the extra code and dialog that was dummied out of origins, it seemed like he was one of the characters they'd initially planned to be a temporary companion (apparently). They also made a conscious decision to put Cullen in DA2 instead of the grey haired knight captain we've seen screenshots of, so someone felt his inclusion would be a worthy addition to the story. We can only hope that whoever was responsible for that was able to push for him appearing in DA3. It would be amazing if he finally got to step in off the side lines and take part in the party. He'd have plenty of reason to be involved in the main plot, I'm sure ...

Anyway, I don't think all the fuss really started until that survey leak. It's just a bit odd, since I didn't notice a huge surge of "BOO! We hate Cassandra." even though she was depicted there as well.

Anyway, even if it's only a cameo, I'm happy knowing he'll be represented.

Thinking about it, it's kinda bizarre how much of a following Cullen's acquired, especially considering he's only ever been a relatively unimportant npc. Stranger still is that Cullen's popularity began in DA:O, in which he had even less of a presence than DA2 and was (generally) considered less attractive than his DA2 model. If you put together every possible interaction with Cullen from both games it wouldn't even amount to 15 minutes.

This oblivious, slightly awkward, (seemingly) socially inexperienced Templar and mere npc has generated more attention (both good and bad) than some of the companions themselves! And it goes beyond just this thread, I've found hundreds, maybe even thousands of fanfic, fan-art, photo manipulations, head swaps, poems and video tributes dedicated to this man and contrary to popular belief, it's not JUST because "he fancied the F!Mage Warden and had a face lift in DA2". Sure, he has quite a large following of women and gay men, BUT he also seems to have quite a sizable straight male and lesbian fanbase too.

His personal story arc actually interests people. His (potential) crush on the Fem!Mage Warden in DA:O, his torture at the hands of demons and bloodmages in KinlochHold, the breakdown that led to him being sent to a Greenfell to recover, his eventual transfer to Kirkwall and subsequent promotion through the Templar ranks to Knight Captain status despite his young age, and finally the realisation that his superior had become corrupt leading him to eventually aid Hawke (sometimes a mage, of all things!) In slaying the Knight Commander. On paper it all seems in-depth and incredibly dramatic and if you didn't know any better you'd be forgiven for thinking that I'd just described a full companions story arc... but all these events, everything that we've learnt about him (that we know to be 100% true) has played out in under 15 minutes of screen time (some of which is only shown via codex entries and npc gossip), and we've barely even scratched the surface! We've seen his personal growth in-game first hand, we feel like we know this character intimately, yet we know very little about him. Hell, we don't even know for sure if he has a Surname, let alone a family, or, Maker forbid, a girlfriend/boyfriend!

When you look at it objectively, it's not surprising that DG seems somewhat shocked by his level of popularity. Yet, after reading this back, to an outsider it would be equally surprising if he wasn't made a companion.

Crazy isn't it.

Is that why Mr. Gaider isn't posting anymore? I mean, his interview about BSN being toxic on the OT forum? And where is Brushyourteeth...I haven't seen her in awhile. =(

I don't see Alot of Cullen hate. However, I do see more than is logical considering I don't see Cullen fans running around starting Swoon and,or demand threads in the general abt Cullen.

It is odd that others act like we're constantly shoving Cullen in their face. When I haven't seen that.

You raise a good point Narcia abt. Cass. Judging from that movie, she is/was really prejudice against mages. So.. I don;t understand.

But whatever. I went thru this Kaidan already. Sheesh. You think it's bad w/Cullen..

Cullen should just step up and say, "All your fangirls are belong to me!"

So, in light of what we've discovered over the past few months surrounding DA3, how do you feel about Cullen's chances as a potential companion now, compared to before all the details surfaced?

I personally feel that our chances have increased significantly from when I first joined this thread. Back then I figured we'd be lucky if we even got a cameo out of him.

I still strongly feel that he will be in game. With a really good role.

I could not have said this better myself! That's what it is. Even with his tiny abount of screen time, this character did manage to move me. I wanted to know what happened to him after Kinloch hold, and I want to know where he goes and what he does after Kirkwall. He's got so much potential, and so much investment in the story that's about to unfold. I hope he gets to come along and help my new protagonist change the face of Thedas. Or, at least save everyone from the next ultimate evil ^_^

Also, really like this pic, Lola.

I guess, but then everyone takes breaks from BSN. You should anyway. Besides he's got shyte to do. There were times when I was like, "Why are you on the forum all the time , David? Don;t you have a game to make?"
 Lol.

As much as I enjoy his posts and whatnot, (even when he --unintentionally, I think--serves us up as fodder to the evil darkspawn game journos..sigh..) I like to think he's busy making a kick ass game.

Altho, David, this thread is safe. You know that. And we have muffins. You like muffins, David?

Mike Laidlaw use to post on BSN a lot but he doesn't anymore either. He hasn't for about a year now. He said it's because the forums aren't good for his phone but I think he probably doesn't like it here either. I just stalk him on Twitter now lol.

As far as Cullen being a companion goes, as I said before, he fits in my own personal theory of how DA3 will play out. So yea, I think he will be a companion. If he isn't, he'll definitely play a role in DA3, IMO. Cullen has a lot of character development for such a minor character in the DA universe.

Before I go, this is way OT--but I ran across this photojournalism collection by a Robbie Cooper. In this one collection he was comparing real life online gamers w/ their avatars. Their virtual/fantasy  selves. It 's pretty interesting stuff.

But looking at them just reminded me that while there are indeed many Cranks in gaming communities. There are cranks everywhere, regardless of situation.

More importantly, there are alot of real and good ppl, too.

This one photo comparison tears me up, and is also beautiful to me at the same time. just wanted to share. Goodnight all!:
