Here's a question, I've probably asked it before but since we know a little more about the game now perhaps you've changed your minds:

Is anyone else concerned that your gonna be at least a little disappointed with DA3 due to all the ideas and theories we've thrown about in here about possible quests, companions, romances etc that probably won't be in the game?

Bioware always manages to surprise me w/ ideas and concepts that I never could have thought of on my own, so I really don't think I'd be disappointed if things didn't match up exactly to what I have in my head. And I mean, if there's Cullen, everything will be wonderful :innocent:

I think the only thing that would really disappoint me would be Cullen not being a companion (romanceable or other), but I'm fully expecting to be disappointed about that so it wouldn't come as a surprise at least.

Aside from that, I guess I'd be a little sad if the interaction with companions and LI's was as limited as it was in DA2. I think we're golden for the Orlesian ball though!

Really? I have higher beliefs that Cullen will be a companion, than there being an Orlesian ball that we will be attending. Did I miss something?

I feel we have a better chance... and after that survey leak turning out to be legit, I probably would've said he was 99% likely to be a companion. BUT then I saw few comments from devs saying that the survey was full of old/obselete ideas and then DG said that presuming those characters (including the ones with concept art) were companions would lead to a big disappointment. So now I'm thinking that he's probably just an npc.

@Vamp yes you can use the DA modder, but only certain downloads require it. Most you can just drop right in the override folder, and that's it. Only if it has the DA icon, that's when you need to use the modder, or if it's an override file. They'll explain it in the ReadMe (very important to read those)

If the mod doesn't come w/ a chargen file, then it doesn't need it. Like I said, it's just the character creator mods that use them.

Me to, though trying to get everything just right is a pain. I want to make the choices I want to, but not have to fight Fenris or anyone at the end...but in order to get Fenris fully one way or another it seems like I have to treat him like dirt or treat mages like dirt.

Fenris is actually really easy!! Do you mind meta-gaming? If not, just check out his Approval page. If you do, just know when to not bring him ("Act of Mercy") and when TO bring him (when interrogating the slaver who sold Feynriel, for example... if you ask Fenris to "make him talk" and then kill the guy, Fenris gives +10 approval).

You don't have to flirt with him; in fact, flirting often gives less approval than a diplomatic/friendly response. (My personal opinion: Fenris is shy and doesn't like flirting lol)

You know I've done so much speculating about games in the past four years, been dissapointed or vindicated and seen how much what we complain about can be subjective that honestly I just want to play the game, even if it's awful. Which even the worst Bioware game is better than some of the best Lucasarts games...not all of them, but most.

I hope Cullen shows up, but even if he isn't a companion this time around, to me there is always next time. Maybe he'll have a bigger role with the Qunari or just Tevinter in general in DA4.

Whether we're the Inquisition or some mook who gets wrapped up in the game's events via leaving to milk the cow I honestly don't care. Just let me play the thing, I'm gonna buy the game, I'm likely going to enjoy the game, but really if anything kills it for me it's gonna be the fans. Not you guys of course, but the rest of the BSN can be horrid.

@Lola I think that comment is just to cover all bases, for the eventual "Their pic was in the survery, why aren't they in game" uproar that would come up once the companions are revealed. It will probably still happen, but hey, that's the BSN for you.

Hehe, Gaider also said: "I cannot wait to find out how much Eurogamer will insult my intelligence and willingness to read the source with its inflammatory, inaccurate hit piece on this one"

... Bang goes my chance of ever meeting him at the Eurogamer convention then!

Yeah honestly I am really unenthusiastic about the game. I'm disappointed about having to play a human character again (Skyrim is helping me get over that though LOL Damn I love my adorable little wood elf). I have a feeling the CC will be uninspiring. I fear we'll be forced to play a character who is somehow aligned with the Chantry (which I personally hate because I dislike religion). I've been mocked as a Cullen fan, mocked as a Fenris fan, and mocked as a qunari fan, and sometimes by the devs themselves (i.e. DG saying those who want a qunari romance are just fetishists... yes I'm still quite insulted by that).

I fear the game will be more like DA:O than DA2. Generic fantasy, basically. DA2 was so different; it felt personal and was wrapped up in political intrigue, and that seemed to carry over with MOTA. But fans beotched so much about DA2 that it seems the devs are maybe slipping back towards DA:O.

One thing that holds me over is knowing the companions, at least, will be awesome, because the DA writers know how to write good characters. Of course now lately all DG can talk about are romances, and he's got nothing nice to say about fans of romances (that HE writes, by the way). So I'm concerned now romances will be downplayed, or they'll be depressing and end in death or the LI leaving the PC.

Blah, I'll shut up now lol

I think he's just a bit jaded, because the romances which are generally supposed to be attractive fluff is now a major facet of the game. He's also played the Witcher so he likely believes that THAT is what we want from his games, which isn't helped by threads that ask for full on frontal nudity, which despite their lack of appearances he rarely comes here so he might have the luck of running into one everytime he shows up.

I agree with you I'm kind of bummed that we can't play as an elf if only for your benefit, I can't really say more other than they mentioned they'd like to return to that sometime in the future, which I know isn't alot but it's the best I can come up with :(

I think David is a generally nice guy, I think he writes great stuff, however I think he is bombarded by idiot commenters for every little thing he says, they don't even have to have read what he wrote and they'll comment on it which if I were him I would have left here a LONG time ago.

Sadly even though there are some good people on these forums I think that it's a minor benefit when he's hit with, why the writers are stupid, why Jenn Hepler should, well you know and otherwise just getting harrased by people you're trying to entertain. We're like crappy neighbors lol.

I think you don't have to worry though. The game is enough like both games (so far) that the game could have the strengths of both and simply need additions like more races or bug fixes.

I hadn't thought of that! Tbh I truly believe Morrigan was wrong in thinking that her mother planned to kill/possess her, as she did all her previous "daughters." It made me personally kind of question her character that she would so ruthlessly plan her mother's murder, and then not even have the guts to accompany the Warden! But I do still like her as a character.

I've actually done pretty well getting his friendship up, but it did require me to flirt with him... but my Hawke flirts with literally everyone, so I guess he's a bit of a cheeky chappy LOL!

Well yeah, thats the thing I want my Hawke to still make the choices he would make, which is admittedly the issue lol.

I agree with you; he seems reeeeeally nice (for a writer... writers by nature must be curmudgeons!!). In fact I see a lot of myself in him, and let me tell you, when I get annoyed, I can write some snarky stuff. Which is usually not a good thing (and I'm not the head writer of a gaming franchise who is probably being told to worry about PR and such).

Yeah I know. And thanks for your solidarity regarding the elves

I have found that the BSN is actually LESS sexist and nasty and vitriolic than other online gaming spaces. I mean there are the guys with the Anora/Morrigan/femaleQunari fetishes and then there are the guys who wrote nasty messages to Anita Sarkeesian and what not.

But it's still pretty bad.

I don't think she lied about it, unless she saw something even worse in that book so she felt she had to destroy her mother for the greater good. Either way, Flemeth saw it coming. Maybe Flemeth purposely intended for that to happen, thus the entry about her killing/possessing her daughters was added to the book?
