By the time we jump in--9:40?-Orlais is up to its teeth in chaos. Civil War between Celene and that Duke Chalons, something. Celene is out somewhere dead/captured/hold up.
Ppl rioting over idea of draft to fight the war. Rumor has it Val Royeux has been set aflame.
At least this civil war might keep Orlais from trying to re-conquer the blight weakened Fereldan...I guess...Cuz they really want to do that. Celene did not want that.
Heck, maybe we're gonna be working for the Orlisian empire. Celene, or that Duke guy. Or even the Dowager. The true force behind the throne. Where the hell is she in all this? She was alive in 9:37.
Who's running Orlais? There's an Imperial Chancellor. The Divine. Maybe the Dowager.
Cullen will prolly be trying to help the Divine. I can't see him abandoning her. He might have to go to Orlais specifically because of that. Not to mention a report on what happened w/Meredith.
Where's Bodhan and Sandal? I hope we can find them.
And this is all besides the mage/templar/chantry conflict!! Sweet Baby Andraste!. The Chantry is not the only thing crumbling. The Orlisian Empire is crumbling. But how much so at this point? There are alot of rumors. And aren't ppl camped outside Val Royeaux because of the civil war.
Refugees? That's not good.
Leli was sent to find the Warden. And Cass was sent to find Hawke. By the Divine to get the only ones she thought had the power and influence...to, uh, bust heads? But stop the mage/templar thing.
But apparently even that now "is in the Maker's hands". ( aka Gaider and co. Ha!).
Sheesh. I was hoping to see bit of the splendor of Val Royeaux b4 imploded on itself. I don;t see that happening now. Unless backgrounds, but we can't play those, right?

The part with the evil laughter for perhaps resurrecting what they had planned for Anders but executing it differently gave me a small flicker of fright.
yes.
What could they have done w/Anders that would make them laugh in an evil way. I mean, that they didn't do already? What is more evil?
And does the word choice of "resurrecting" have anything to do w/anything?
edit: here's the line--
"There’s this thing about Anders we were planning… man, I wish I could
tell you about it. I won’t, because it’s possible we might resurrect it
(perhaps in a different form), but every time it comes up in the Writers
Pit we all laugh and laugh and laugh. It’s evil laughter. It feels
good. Trust me, you’re probably better off not knowing."

I don't know much about Orlais or the events of Asunder, but I know historically that rich people, old money, that is, will do anything they can to maintain a resemblance of "civility," including holding balls, dinner parties, and the like during times of war and duress lol
that's a good point, MMG. They definitely will do that. Even w/the rabble at the door. Hmm

So, we get to see what's going on outside of Kirkwall at that point. Prolly sum bit of martial law might being going. The wiki said the "Sun Gates of the city"? were now sealed. It might seem like 2 diff worlds. War. Refugees. Suffering on the outside. While they're hold up inside still trying to hold on to the veneer of civility.
Freakish.

This is also what I was thinking. No matter what's going on in Val Royeaux's streets, folks like the Duke in MOTA will still have their little chateaux, and inappropriately lavish hunts, and balls, and creepy harlequins.

You can bet your arse they'll still hold ridiculous social events. They'll be trying to ignore the issue whilst throwing parties, which, will obviously go to **** whilst we're in there lol.

Well, I was looking thru some codex and what not....and well, I don't see how we're gonna get to go to an Orlesian ball.

Well Asunder agrees with that Val Royeux is in flames and Celene Is trapped on a wild goose chase that took her away from the Capital at a Crucial moment. The Templars and Seekers leave the Chantry although the main instigator dies (maybe) so this may be fixable. Leliana and the Divine are very far away from Val Royeaux at the end of Asunder and apparently side with mages, at least in spirit, maybe not overtly. The circles decalre war with the Chantry and Templars. At least 2 Circles have been anulled.
So ya, a lot of confusion and a country in the midst of civil war.

Oh, God. Could you imagine if they had turned Anders tranquil towards the end of the game? Instead of having the option to kill him, they woulda dragged him off and made him Tranquil right then and there?
OH! But what if they did make him Tranquil. And being made Tranquil killed Justice. And then Anders' Tranquility was reversed.
Justice-free Anders
