You know what, I'm not surprised at how man haters and Lovers Cullen has. It seems though, those are the type of characters that always do well in a story. Love'em or Hate'em, just means that the writers are doing their jobs properly, they are making their audience 'feel' something towards that character. Any feeling at all is better then none. It means the character had an affect.
Take a look at Carth from KOTOR...many ppl loved him, many hated him. Goal achieved.
Alistair, bingo, same thing.
Morigan. Same thing.
Anders, same.
The list of successful characters is long for the history of BIOWARE!
So the thing that hints to me the most, in the case of Cullen, of being a very possible candidate for LI/Companion, is the fact that he does strike a nerve, whatever one that might be, in all BIO fans.
Nuff said!
Well put and I completely agree. There is nothing worse than a principle character who makes the audience feel nothing. Strong emotional reactions mean the character is doing his or her job -- that they are involved in conflicts that the audience cares about, and expressing opinions that make the audience react.
My feeling is that when characters are universally loved by everyone, they aren't an interesting characters because they aren't thinking or doing anything that could be seen as even slighly controversial. Interesting characters need conflict that comes from something inside of them, and the more we put a magnifying glass to that conflict, the more we love that character for their struggle or hate them for what they are doing.
(fingers crossed for Cullen as companion/LI, especially for the reasons above)
