Here is a question I have for you lot.
As someone who came to DA:O late in it's life I had the pleasure of playing through the game AND all it's DLC relatively one after another in a somewhat chronological order. (Leliana's Song/Origins/Warden's Keep/Stone Prisoner/Return to Ostagar/Finish Origins/Awakening/Golems of Amgarrak/Witch Hunt) so I got the full experience.
With Legacy and Mark of the Assassin for DA2 I'll get a relatively longer campaign and some of DA2's monotony/map reuse is broken up thus (for me and maybe some of you) an even better experience. With that said.
Do you guys think that Inquisition will be better with DLC or does the addition of missions, new characters and such just add fluff to the enjoyment you already felt?
Personally Origins is a 7 when I played it alone, but a 10 when I played all of it's DLC in the order I showed you. I was also considerably bummed by the news of a cancelled expansion though. So what are your opinions.
DLC, equally important....or fluff?
Re DAO, I thought the game was great on its own, but the DLC really added to it. I think that DLC for DA2 made it a better game (just seemed to add more colour) and the fact that you could change the PCs appearance mid game was a bonus.

Honestly, I don't think I can answer this until I've played Inquisition. Ideally, I don't want DLC at all, right? I want it all in the game. In principle, the best of all world for me is a big strong game and then a full expansion. Seems to me DLC should be sorta random fluffy addons, but the meat of your experience would be in the other two. Then, of course, if it's a game I love then I want the DLC to be meaty on top of that, since I just want more, more, more of everything (like with DA2). What I don't want is to feel like they made the deliberate decision to save some of the meaty content for a DLC, since it makes me feel like they're nickel and diming my gaming experience.Danny Boy 7 wrote...

Right! Sorry ladies
Also, I don't mind DLC so long as (like R2 said) it's there to enhance my game play and it's not used as a supplement for an unfinished product. One big beautiful complete game and later a big amazing expansion would be fantastic. And as I say this, I know full well that I'll buy most of the DLC that they spit out. I just won't like doing it.

Re DA2, Legacy and MoTA were my favourite quests out of the whole game. Just a shame about the costs (because it really adds up). But then there would be no Sebastian and he's a handy archer.
Saying that, DAO would not have been the same without Shale. I wish she could have been a companion at the outset instead of via the DLC.

Right, not saying there isn't good stuff in DLCs! My point, and I think meanie's, was that ideally, Sebastian would have been in the game anyway, not in a for-pay DLC. Legacy and MOTA would have been quests in a big@ss expansion that also took us Starkhaven. You know what I mean? I'd rather DLC be little piffly things that we wouldn't have gotten otherwise [which, of couse, is subjective, particularly with hindsight, since where do you draw the line between core and extra!]

I do see where you're coming from. When you say big @ss expansion do you mean like Awakenings?
I agree that DLCs should for things like additional armours or weapons (and I like the Black Emporium as I can never get my Hawke right), but not companions (the ones so far have been great and I wouldn't want anyone to miss out!). I hope that if Cullen becomes a companion, they don't make him or his quest a DLC! Or maybe they will ....
Looking forward to reading your story whilst I wait for EA to contact me (problems with redemption codes grrr..)

Yeah, exactly! And, by expansion, yes I was thinking like Awakenings. Not sure where that really falls on the big@ss scale, TBH, but something big and coherent like that. Like our cancelled Exalted March expansion. *sniff*sniff*Newschmoo wrote...

Do you think they'll ever revive that expansion. I mean they must have done quite a bit of work on it? It seems such a shame.

Great stuff Lola and R2. Even though it didn't matter to this story, I was curious as to how he'd have gotten into that situation of being married to someone he doesn't really love.
Also, at the end, "You are the one" totally popped into my head, so I had a bunch of feels from the ending of DA:O.
It was really sweet, and I liked it  Thanks for the collab!

The devs have said that they can't talk about the expansion because they're rolling some of the material over into the Next Big Thing, as it was formerly called. So, I would hope that the "good" stuff will show up in DA3.Newschmoo wrote...

Personally I'm most sad that it seemed Starkhaven was going to be involved in the planned expansion and/or DLC, according to dev hints, so that's what I'm really hoping gets included.

D'aww, thanks, Narcia! When Lola comes on she can wax eloquent about how he got himself in that situation. She's got it all worked out! LOL Personally, I found it interesting to think about how far his commitment to duty would go, poor dear.Narcia_ wrote...

Interesting to cast Cullen as the Hanged Man. From tarotpedia (LOL!):
"Although The Hanged Man would once most likely have been interpreted as a punishment, somewhere along the way it came to symbolise a change of perspective, new points of view and spiritual revelations – the card shows physical immobility and restrictions, but freedom and power of the mind. Other than that, the Hanged Man may signify a sense of being caught in between two opposites and a time of suspension, when you don’t really feel you have your two feet on the ground. "

To answer Danny's question, I like DLC because they bring me back to the story after 3-4 months. I don't like new armors and such because that stuff should have been in the game in the first place. I really loved Legacy and MOTA, despite Legacy's dialogue bugs (that are now thankfully fixed). Since Sebastian isn't a full romance, and he leaves at the end (I never kill Anders) I don't feel he was worth the money... AND WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS, I think he should have just been included as a regular companion. He felt too tacked on, poor prince.
With DA:O, I also bought it all at once like Danny; when I finished the main game though I only played Awakening. I've since gone back and played Witch Hunt, too. WH was wicked boring and just weird because I didn't understand why my Warden was looking for Morrigan. I didn't like Awakening, either, because somehow my Warden had become this Warden-Commander guy and that felt weird.

That's a pretty good choice of card for Cullen. Hopefully we'll get to see some of that type of conflict in DA3.
