So I'm reading this and starting to think that game play could be drastically different from anything we've played before in DA universe. Sounds more like a strategy game, i.e. Age of Empires, Civilization, etc.

"Up to ten companions," suggesting some companions will be optional, or that one could have different companions on different playthroughs??

That's what I thought too, except you'd be able to approach it directly and either go in there all guns blazing or try to be more clever about it, using blackmail and stuff to get things done. Did you see the second description from the German version? It makes the game sound completely different from the English version.

Yeah this actually is the English translation of the German. The English version does sound completely different. I wonder why?

Maybe that's just a certain portion of the gameplay, like during certain points throughout our playthrough, our castle would go under seige and we'd have to use those resources to defend it, or risk losing a lot of resources such as the number of men under our command?

Oh, or maybe that's something that they're doing with this whole multiplayer thing everyone has been saying that they are adding this time around. Similar to Mass Effect 3, you're able to choose between the classes and play as one of the soldiers that the Inquisitor is in command of. This wouldn't be part of the main campaign, but a side option to those who want to play against or w/ other players to gain perks for the single player playthrough?

Oh yeah, so it is! I get confused between the two lol.

I actually like the sound of the German version better because it describes that the veil rips open, rather than a "magical blast" which just kinda reminds me of Anders little Chantry stunt. It makes me wonder which one of the two is closer to the new DA3 plot... unless the veil ripping thing happens a bit later on in the game? Or the magical blast causes the veil to rip due to the sheer amount of magical power used to create the blast?

LOL, it took me a little while too. I was disillusioned by the DA3 survey descriptions until I saw Cullen's concept art and looked a little deeper into the survey itself.

The only thing that really puts me off about the game description now is where it says that you have to take charge of the Inquisition from the beginning.

I know that we won't be getting origin prologues again, but I'm kinda hoping that we'll at least get to actively play as our protagonist at this "peace gathering" either just before or during the blast. I'm not really keen on the idea of just getting a cutscene telling us what's happened and then throwing us right into the role of Inquisitor from the get go, without seeing how we end up in that situation in the first place.

Agreed. It's so nice to start w/ our PC from beginning to end, rather than just jumping in somewhere along the middle, and having the start explained to us via the observations of some outside witness (ie Varric in DA2) Hawke's beginning was so rushed and hectic, it was hard to get a feel for her/his life before the sh*t hit the fan.

True, but we still got to play as "the little guy" for a bit. The way I interpreted the survey description it sounded like we'd be a big shot from the get go... which does seem kinda unusual for a BioWare game, but you never know.

Here's a hard question hehe

If they make Cullen go crazy insane aka Anders and his big kaboom, (or something like the peace gathering kaboom - lets hope he has nothing to do with that lol) in other words he does something terrible (probably because of his PTSS / circle stuff ) What would you do? Other than hating Bioware loads lol

I ask that because I loved Anders but he doesnt survive in any of my PTs, not after my first one. Blowing up a church did it for me, sorry Anders.

Personally I think I would turn off my computer in disgust. If we have the choice of killing him or not... Id be so angry lol

I guess it depends on what he's done. If it was something on par with Anders' Chantry blow out then I'd need to know the details of why he done it first before I made a decision. If, however, he was running around raping and killing innocent people then he'd get the murder knife without a second thought.

LOL Same. I've never killed Anders. I made a pro-Chantry Hawke and THAT guy couldn't kill Anders. Sigh.

Killing babies and raping the innocent is about what it would take to kill Cullen lol

I doubt they would go that route again w/ another companion, merely for the sake of originality.

If for some reason they did, I would have to hear from Cullen his reasons for committing some outragous crime. If it were just for the fact of him losing his marbles, then I would be upset for the loss of a good character w/ some serious potential.

If he had a defined reason to his logic, I would have to consider both sides from a non objective point of view to make my decision. Most of the time no bad guy thinks he's a bad guy, he believes he has a valid reason for his actions that others percieve to be evil.

As for Anders, I usually let him live as I rarely, almost never, kill off my companions when given the choice. Just a personal preferance, but I can see why some people just cannot allow Anders to live.

Thanks for answering guys :)
I was just curious as to the point where you could bring yourself to loathe a character you love, if that made sense.
As for Anders - well its a personal thing - mostly from the fact that we dont know who was in that chantry - how many children, familes etc were in there at the time. To me he didnt care about how many totally innocent people he (well, justice really) might kill for the sake of justice. I've only said that because that is my point of no return - killing off innocent children/families/ whatever would be not right on my end.

Was my argument in the broken circle quest to be honest, that I would rather see a maleficar go than kill an innocent - but I still love his character, because of how they developed him across the games. Would be sad if they didnt continue the trend. Id hate to see him go back.

PS That probably sounds like I think you are ok with it if you save him - which is not my thinking. Sorry if it came across that way!! Dont want to offend anyone. Was just my thoughts as I watched it the first time, I should shut up now >.>

On a side note hanging out with an 11 year old for the last 6 weeks of holidays is making me talk like her. I need an editor before i press submit.

Going back to how DA3 might introduce our character into the game, this would be my personal preference (I'll base this off the survey leak since we have nothing else to go on currently):

The protagonist and 1 other temp companion make their way to the "peace gathering", when you arrive your companion asks you about your motivations for coming, to which you would reply based on the how you want your protagonist to view the situation. For example:

Diplomatic: "Thedas is tearing itself apart. This needs to stop, I'm here to show my support in the name of peace"

Aggressive: "It's motivations are my own" <_<

*Money sign*: "Look at all these pompous nobles rich for the picking, tonight we shall live like kings!" :D

Etc.

You make your way through the crowd, maybe listen in on a bunch of npcs, do one or two mini quests and pick pocket a few nobles (if that's what you wanna do). Once you get close enough to the front of the crowd a cutscene will trigger and the Divine etc begins to give her speech. Suddenly the magical blast hits and we actively fight our way through the carnage to safety, during which your temp companion dies. From there you'd make your way to the rest of the survivors, partake in the conversations and dialogue and eventually form/become part of the Inquisition.

Something like this, although short, would at least give us a chance to choose our motivations, learn the new controls and ease ourselves into the game.

You forgot the Flirt option!

Flirty: "I just was looking for an excuse to get you all to myself. Think we could do it in the bushes without anyone noticing?" ;)

In all seriousness, that's a good idea on how to let us feel like we were really at the start of this new adventure, and giving us somewhere to build up from on establishing our role as the Inquisitor. Wasn't it mentioned that we will be able to choose from different background, something like how we could choose Shepard's childhood and military history?

Mustaches should be banned. No one looks good with a mustache.

Well technically you can have ten companions in both DA games if you include Bethany/Carver. the dogs and Loghain if you get him instead of Alistair. I have a list of the companions but don't include Loghain or the twin that dies because they're optional but in the over all companion count there is ten per game (dogs included)

LOL I'd totally pick that flirt option!

Yeah apparently the backgrounds will be quite extensive and detailed and will have a big impact on peoples attitude toward us.

I'm hoping that first we'd pick our class, for example, Mage and then pick what type of background we had: Circle mage (still loyal)/Apostate/Escaped Circle mage/Etc. Then we'd pick the details of our past: Orphaned and left to the Chantry/Taken from parents by the Templars/Never knew parents but ran with a street gang/etc. Finally, we'd pick our specialisations: Healer/Blood Mage/Arcane Warrior/Etc.

I'm sure the options given will be more interesting than my examples, but that's the basic jist of it lol.

I took it as from the beginning of the Inquisition, not the beginning of the game, but I may be wrong. That's just how I interpreted it.
