Totally agree that there are a million content-based reasons for including him in DA3. At the simplest level, it would be useful to have a companion who can represent the institutional perspective of the Chantry/Templars if DA3 focuses on the mage-templar war. Whether that person is pro-Divine or pro-"new kill-em-all Templar Order" it could  help flesh out what the institutional issues are with protecting mages, and frankly, balance out the earful of pro-mage rhetoric we got from Anders.

IIRC, in one of those recent DG interviews, he mentioned that the reason there were so many crazy blood mages in DA2 is because (Western-based) people naturally take the side of the underdog - i.e. the mages - so they needed to balance it out. Personally, I don't think it was that effective though, in light of all the abuses we heard/saw happening at the Gallows. I think hearing a rational Templar talk about the reasons mages need to be protected ... whether that's locked in a Circle or schooled at some Thedas version of Hogwarts or something else... might succeed better in spotlighting the issues. And, the potential solutions. Hopefully DA3 will allow our PC to be part of re-imagining mage treatment in Thedas, and someone who was formerly part of the old institution could provide a lot of insight.

Of course, my worry is that a Seeker like Cassandra can fill this role as well, or better. But, hopefully completing Cullen's specific character arc will make him as attractive, or more so, as a companion (here's where I insert a citation to vieralynn's expansive description of Cullen's hero's journey!). Moreover, we already know where Cassandra stands in the war, but Cullen will likely have some hard choices to make as far as his duty is concerned. I think the PC could learn a lot as  he figures out where his heart lies.

Cassandra worries me too, especially after I saw her concept Seeker armor from PAX. I'm hoping if David Gaider 'n' co are down to the choice of either her or Cullen, then Cullen's story arc and jaded past will help swing the vote in his favor... if thats the scenario then perhaps they'll lurk on the forums and make their decision based on who gets the most attention (as it stands, Cullen definitely appears to be winning in that sense.) Hell, I don't see any of the other NPC threads getting as much love... this thread has more pages than some of the companion/LI's from DA2 lol.

I definitely see her as the only obstacle standing in the way of Cullen being a companion/LI. From a storyline point of view (leaving my fangirlness out of the equation) I feel that Cassandra would be better suited as a major NPC with whom the new protagonist would work closely with (kinda like we did with Orsino/Meredith and Viscount Dumar.)

Also, in case you haven't seen it, cityofexiles has another outstanding Cullen cutscene in the works...  wait for it... Cullen & Amell Secret Wedding!!  She's even thinking of making it into a DA:O mod.

She's the author behind a few other wonderful Cullen vids which are also worth checking out. Wynne's Warning and Cullen & Amell romance/argument.

I love her videos! And she's getting bolder, taking scenes from entirely different places in Thedas and within the game and reskinning them!  Not just people or voice clips but even the place! The Circle was seamlessly skinned over the code for the throne room in Denerim at the end of the game! Just amazing! :D This makes me wonder why no one's at least done a reskin mod of Kirkwall's repetitive caves so they look different.:bandit: Thanks for sharing!

I know there's a mod to make Kirkwall look more like DA:O in style.

Yes, this is exactly my concern about Cassandra. On the character evolution front, I still haven't seen Rise of the Seeker, but (unfortunately?) that might flesh her out enough to warrant more "fleshing" in DA3. Hmm. I find her interesting, but not as interesting as seeing Cullen finally come into his own. In a perfect world, we could have both in some capacity. I like your "major NPC" idea. She could be the task giver as PC + Cullen try to "fix" the world.

And, you know, I used to think the same thing about how active the previous Cullen thread was (the old one was about the same as this before the last few months) and that one never attracted any devs either. But who knows; they may browse but just not chime in.

OMG - on another topic... I just got the first email notice I've received in MONTHS about new posts on this forum. Wow!

hahaha! Just for you, I will. ;) I wish I wasn't so out of practice though. I've done a loooot of erasing and this one image has taken soo long! Still on line art and I don't have enough time in my days to really devote to it. I need to improve so I can make progress faster. <_<

I have no idea. But I've been subscribed to this one since, like, last summer, and it's been many months since I've received anything. It always works for any other one I subscribe to, tho. No idea. Maybe it dials it down when there's a lot of activity, but it also didn't work when there was just a trickle. I figured it was some spam filtery thing that I couldn't solve. Have you been getting notifications about this thread?

Maybe they've had plans for him since DA2 came out, thus no comments from them? That or we scare them with all the squeeing and fanfics LOL!

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!! Look at David Gaiders tweets:

David Gaider ‏ @davidgaider: Early morning in the sound booth listening to live VO auditions.

David Gaider ‏ @davidgaider: That awkward moment when someone's having a really terrible audition and both of you know it.

I'm gonna be keeping a close eye on this!

If they're looking in VA's already then that means it hasn't been postphoned like the rumours claim. We should watch Greg Ellis' twitter in the next few months.

Have you noticed how the devs have all gone really silent on here again?

Yayyayyay! Yes, someone more twittery than I needs to watch that! Hmm, I would hope they have the companions roughly worked out if they're already casting, eh?? Perhaps we should also check out whoever was Cassandra's VA.

Thinking about it they'll probably cast all the new comers first, they've probably already contacted the old voice cast... or are in the process of doing so. I hope Greg Ellis will be available if he's in DA3.

I only follow DG. I'll have to remedy that.

Cullen's armor is a bi-yatch to draw in any kind of angled perspective. :/

LOL! Well, given what's going on in the scene, I don't think he wants to be naked. But he did start out that way when I was sketching him so the proportions and angles of his form would be right. It's easier to see where armor should sit if you have to draw it over the planes, valleys and hills of the body. And Hawke started out naked too but since she has a staff in mid-cast, I didn't think she wanted to remain starkers either. Not With Meredith trying to take her life. :P I'll try naked Cullen another time. :D And soon.
