There has to be some kind of happy middle ground between amazing cinematics and gameplay. I do not want to sacrifice gameplay, nor serious customization. Why not keep the Hollywood cinematics for a few key points in the game like meeting your companions, major boss battles and/or your LI hook up. Stuff like that. The rest can be small clips for finishing moves and such.
Older Bioware games didn't really have many cinematics and told great story/characters. I'm not really sure why they feel the need to do them like they do now. I mean, I guess KOTOR and Jade Empire had cinematics. They weren't pushed to what they are now though. Cinematics isn't the only way to convey an amazing story/characters/narrative.
It just seems to me too many games today want to emulate Hollywood. Games are games, not movies. Be a game. I'm all for great storytelling but not at the expense of gameplay. I've never seen anything that suggests gaming needs cinematics to tell great stories. The proof is in older games because they didn't have them. Did Chrono Trigger have any on SNES? Nope. That's one of my favorite games ever.
Any of you play Metal Gear Solid? I love the franchise but my god...that's at the top of what NOT to do with a game. If you're watching more than you're playing, something is wrong. I do make exceptions though. Like Walking Dead or Dear Esther. Admittedly, a touching/emotional gaming experience is the best gaming for me. I look at those "games" as being more of great "experiences" for me.

What exactly do you mean by cinematics deuce because you're sort of treading in two different areas here?
Well, it depends really. I'm talking like the ones where you watch and have no control over and the ones where you have "cinematic gameplay". Kinda like Bioware uses in their conversations? Or, Assassin's Creed 3 puts a lot of emphasis on "cinematic gameplay" by giving you a lot of flashy animations but stripping control from the player. Unless I'm wrong on those? I'm pretty sure when you get those close-ups in the Bioware games, it's still categorized as cinematics.
All cinematics are bad because they strip control away from the player in some form. In AC3's case, you have to watch long, dramatic animations that look cool initially but you don't have much input over them outside a few key presses. That's more categorized as cinematic gameplay than cinematics itself. Does that make sense?
...Right?

I truly believe DA3 is going to end up being the best of all the games and it will combine the best elements from both games

Agree, and let's keep it real; this is the most important part of the game!! LOL

Imo for BioWare games that "cinematic gameplay" has always been there it's just different due to engine and other possible generation constraints. Whenever you choose a dialogue option it's technically cinematic and I agree, less player agency = bad, specifically in games like the Final Fantasy franchise, but personally instead of just standing around looking at my character's bum when something needs to be said I think it's safe to say I'd prefer something nice to look at.
The real problem is balancing that with gameplay. Story imo makes gameplay better, especially combat, but if we sacrifice gameplay for five really long cutscenes there is no point to play the game.

The Cullen thread dies when people have two or more polite dissenting opinions... b/c in any other thread it would in a mud sling fest, but in this thread we just smile and thoughtfully consider the other person's POV lol
Nah, I kinda agree with what Danny said I just didn't have anything to add. That and I got sidetracked. Forgot about the thread lol.

OK... am I correct in interpreting this that Cam just told us finally what MDarrah's mysterious triangle symbol is...? "a visual representation of the main drivers of our core consumers"
Cameron Lee wrote...
"Name of this next team has changed like five times. They should change to a symbol like prince #sprintReviewDay"
Oh, is that what that mystery blurry triangle was? It all makes sense now...
Cameron Lee wrote...
"Nope, that was a visual representation of the main drivers of our core consumers".

LOL, Cam gave it away! Hehe, bless him.
Poor Cam, even the young cannot escape the blood hounds of the Cullen thread. *moment of silence*
So what exactly does core drivers mean? Like what we complained about the most or what we want the most (sometimes interchangeable)
