@ R2s Muse, you posted a really good story. I love how you 'planted' things and reused them later. Like when Isabela says he can have jurisdiction over her any day and Hawke actually sways when thinking about that line. How you managed to make the relationship build and believably by making Cullen lock Hawke up all the time. And also you caught the voices of the characters really well. And I could go on! Great fic!

Ah, thanks so much for your kind words! It was certainly fun to play with the notion that Cullen's "I thought we were going to arrest the Champion" line had a lot more backstory behind it.

As far as Cullen's potential promotion, I think it's anyone's guess what happens after Act 3. He might have been promoted to Knight-Commander after Meredith. He might also have gotten in trouble for his insubordination and be languishing at the Knight-Captain level (or lower). Or worse, he could be court marshaled and kicked out. A promotion would have disturbing implications, since if he was still KC in 9:40 then he was one of the 15 KCs who approved Lambert's breaking of the Nevarran Accord. I think the only possible boundary condition on any of that is the fact that Cassandra, a superior well above him in the hierarchy, had no idea what happened in Kirkwall in 9:37. So, if he's still a part of the system, they'll need to explain why he was never asked, or if asked, why they didn't believe him.

I have finished reading Asunder and it is difficult to know where Cullen will be at the end of the book (I mean everything is in disarray). If he was one of the 15 Knight Commanders, he could have been one of the few that had reservations (which Lord Seeker Lambert indicated would either remain silent or be replaced).

Being a loyal Chantry person, I really feel he wouldn't agree to Lambert's actions and hence I do not believe he is a KC. Whatever rank he is, I believe after the break of the Nevarran Accord he would remain loyal to the Divine.

However, I did notice something that Leliana said at the begnning of the book when she was speaking to Evangeline about her guarding the Divine - "There was a great deal of discussion as to who would be guarding the Divine tonight. Many of those in your order of similar rank, after all, have expressed certain ... attitudes which cause us great concern". Evangeline is the same rank as Cullen (or I am reading too much into this comment!)

I think page 2000 should be a celebration. A new celebratory banner would be good to start with. It would be good to do something creative. It would be great if someone could do a video of Cullen doing the Gangnam Style dance (like that DAO video on Youtube of the companions doing Thriller - so clever).

It's certainly interesting! It makes me wonder why Cullen wasn't made a KC if he isn't one. Did something happen to prevent his promotion? Or did he decline? Alternatively, was he a KC but bailed out prior to Lambert summoning everyone to split from the Chantry?

If he is a KC that sided with Lambert, what made him turn against the Divine and the Chantry after waxing lyrical about them for so long? Seems like a waste after he took a stand against Meredith.

Agree! He could be one who just didn't say anything... but that just doesn't seem his style to me anymore. Of course, I can also imagine scenarios where he went along with it, but was immediately plotting afterward on how to found or join the Rebel Alliance.

Interesting catch! I'll have to go look at that again. I almost wonder if they're talking about folks like Meredith, or does she mean just Val Royeaux/White Spire folks?  Hmm. Dunno.

Maybe by then we'll have some new info to fuel our imaginations. I can't wait to get the new protagonist's Surname, appearance and a few details about him/her.

If we know the name/default appearance/general info about the new protagonist by the time we hit 2000 pages, then maybe our 2000 celebration could be about Cullen + the new protagonist.

We could maybe do a bunch of fanfic/fan art etc about them and how they meet, what the romance could be like between them etc.
