You know that DA2 Exalted March dlc that was cancelled? Well apparently there were hints recently that it was going to include a Merrill/Carver Bethany/Sebastian coupling (if you didn't romance either companion). I recall seeing DG 'n' co on Twitter feeling a bit gutted about it after Aimo drew up some artwork of said pairings.

I wonder if maybe they'll tie that in to the DA3 cameos instead? Granted it would be a bit tricky showing Carver/Bethany in a cameo since their physical appearance is subject to change, but maybe Seb/Merrill will mention something about it during an encounter with our new protagonist 'n' co? I think I'd like that.

I think I'd like that tbh. I mean one of the reasons (of many innocent/non-mean reasons) I chose to stay away from Merrill is because Carver liked her. I think Merrill and Seb would have to be the ones to mention it, otherwise they'll need to import yet another customizable appearance.

On a side note, I know we did this before but which VA's do you expect to make appearances in DA3? Either new or returning?

Yeah, I have mixed feelings about those pairings, so if I actually got a vote, I'd vote against.  While I simply adore the Merrill/Carver idea, I found the Sebastian/Bethany one poorly executed in what we'd seen so far. I mean, letting Seb flirt more with Bethany than with Hawke was a real kick in the teeth. So, when I heard about that pairing in that tumblr post of DG's, it actually annoyed me, to be honest.

Ah well. Of course, all things being equal, if I hadn't desperately been trying to get even a glimmer of recognition for my Seb rivalmance, then all the power to Bethany. But you just know that if I were to use my Seb LI playthrough as my import in DA3, a Seb/Bethany cameo would still show up...  like salt in the wound!

I dislike both pairings, although for somewhat different reasons.

I look at the Merrill/Carver ship, much in the same way as the Tali/Garrus ship in ME3. Despite being great characters in their own right, the hook up seems out of place because the female character was clearly enamoured with the protagonist and had to settle for the "Paragade" version instead.

From her first appearance, Merrill seemed to develop a crush on Hawke and I can't see her affections swaying to their little brother, despite Carver's huge leap in adorkability and kindness if he became a Warden.

Sebastian and Bethany are sweet together, but their attraction seems a little flat and based on the surface only. What they have in common is that they are the two most devout Andrastians in the group, but I doubt that the relationship would work simply due to Sebastian overzealousness.

Consider for a moment that Bethany herself mentioned that if she weren't a Mage, she'd desire to serve in the Chantry, can anyone see Sebastian allowing that? Likewise, can anyone see him forsaking his vow of celibacy and allowing Bethany to become a mother as she's always wanted?

It seems to me that the perfect man for Bethany would likely be Cullen!

Interesting! Like my own annoyance with Bethany/Seb, I think perhaps your own reading of the Merrill infatuation may be a bit colored by her involvement with your PC. I personally never saw her being interested in my PC, presumably because I never encouraged any kind of flirtation (Merrill as  LI  gives me the heebie jeebs). But, I'm sure any of the romanced LIs can feel that way once we've paired them with our PC. Don't get me started on Fenris/Isabela!

I always saw Bethany with Anders myself. Although I've read some very cute Bethany/Cullen fics, I don't think that I'd expect Cullen to go for another Circle mage, since I imagine him having learned  his lesson the first time. But then, you never know who you'll fall for.

On the one hand I really like that some of the companions will fall for each other, but on the other hand I can see how it would ****** some people off if said companion is willing to do more with/for the other companion than they would for the protagonist. I totally won't be surprised if Cullen snubs the protagonist for some other companion, Gaider 'n' co do like to rile up the fangirls!

I've been fortunate so far that the companions I've picked to romance in recent BioWare games (Alistair, Kaidan, Anders) have all been completely and utterly smitten with the protagonist from the start. I think my luck may run out in DA3, especially if Cullen is a romanceable companion. There's no way on earth the DA writers would pass up the opportunity to set us fangirls off, especially considering we've been pestering the crap out of them for years about romancing him!

I can't imagine Wesley had much personality either!
