I think the real problem is that a lot of them don't really "hate" Cullen (excluding those who hate Templars etc), but rather they hate his fandom.
People hate what's popular...what's more they hate people who like what's popular....even if said thing isn't popular so much as well liked among a small group of people. Honestly I know exactly what's going to happen even if he's an AMAZING character.
1. We'll be happy, he lived up to our expectations and maybe even exceeded them.
2. The haters who were just following the trend will either be like "He's just what I imagined
:D" or "He's a horrible character, these people are blind!!!"
3. The real haters won't change they're opinion regardless of whether he's the most epic companion of all time before or after. I mean I've heard, "Doesn't matter what they do, he's a stoopid character....etc."
4. And the indifferents will be swayed to one side or the other.
Tis the sad truth of things.
You forgot the outcries of "pandering" and "favoritism" that will erupt across the entire BSN
I sort of grouped that into two and three respectively.
This reminds of a bit of Anders in DAII.
What bugged me most about that after the game was released was more the complaining that he was an "awful, horribly written character" and that his writer, who ended up getting bullied and harrassed over something else entirely, should be fired. (which is just about the
kindest thing I saw said)
No, he wasn't a bad character. You just don't like him, what he did at the end, and your inability to do anything about it.
That is a fair complaint. The other is not.
I dislike what Loghain does in DAO, but he is still an awesome character.
Sometimes why I try to stay off these boards unless big news comes out. The negativity festers like nobody's business here.
