I mean, I'm sure most people do have one in the game, we just don't hear it, but he actually has a set in stone last name?
I wonder if he's a Howe.

Oh what's so hilarious is that woman in Whiterun who says to my guy, "You look like the marrying type. I hope you treat your wife well." And I just picture Vilkas all barefoot and pregnant and laugh maniacally.

So I've seen it mentioned a few times in the thread a few months back but never found the source, but Cullen apparently has a surname?

Commoners (human Fereldans at least) aren't suppose to have last names. If Cullen has a last name, that would probably mean he's from a noble family. But Bioware is totally inconsistent with this kind of thing though.

Dr. Moto - What bugs the snot out of me about Vilkas and Farkas is the fact that they're brothers, raised together.... yet have completely different accents!
Back on topic - Dear sweet baby Jeebus, please don't let Cullen be a Howe UNLESS they're somehow bringing back Tim Curry as a VA.... because I love him.

I'm.. Surprised I actually did not know that. I just figured sometimes it was relevant and other times it was not.
Him being from some sort of noble family with daddy issues wouldn't surprise me in the least bit.

Well it hardly comes up. David Gaider has said on the boards that only nobles have last names. I think the only time it comes up in the games is for the codex entry for the Arms of Mac Tir, which says Loghain being born as a commoner meant he didn't have a last name. It was King Maric that gave him one.

I see. I should probably pick up the books sooner or later too.
I wonder if Malcolm Hawke was a noble, then? Or a name someone else gave to him and it kinda stuck? He was a mercenary..

Good point!! The Amell connection is cute, but they really should have made Hawke the noble name (i.e. Leandra Hawke, Gamlen Hawke), so Malcolm and Leandra's children took the noble name (because Malcolm would have had no name). Unless Leandra wanted to forget her family name, and so they invented a name for their new family?
That would be cool if the castle were Cullen's! But means that Cullen haters would lose their castle if they killed/refused to recruit himmwahaha!

That's a good point. Maybe folks get last names but they aren't of much importance without a title? Or maybe the Hawke's are an important family and Malcolm got kind of cut away when his magic was discovered? Interesting!Batteries wrote...

Meredith has a last name too, but we never find out much about it. And all dwarves and elves seem to have them.
It seems like I remember reading that "Mac Tir" means "of the land." Does anyone else remember seeing that, or am I losing a few screws? R2? Lola?

Good question. Hm, maybe his family were nobles from somewhere in Thedas? Or DG changed his mind on the name thing lol.

It's Gaelic I believe. I saw that on the wiki. So no, no losing screws yet

So, question: which of these options would feel like a bigger betrayal:
If Cullen...
A.) Decided he hated all mages and began a campaign of violence against them
B.) Sided with the Lambert Crowd out of fear and/or submission
C.) Moved to Tevinter and took a cozy job as a Templar there
D.) Abandoned all of his principles and wasted away in a tavern somewhere
E.) Converted to the Qun
F.) Found himself in a delightful fantasy in the Fade and chose to stay forever
G.) Turned out to be Orlesian
Inquiring minds want to know!!
