That makes more sense.

His last name must clearly be Smith.

So he's related to this guy?

BTW, great sleuthing, R2!!! I thought I remembered us talking about the same thing but didn't want to state it as fact without a source, and then be wrong, and then look like a big ol' miss bossypants.  ;)

They totally look alike, just a reversed 'stache.

this gives me the sudden urge to meet Master Wade and Herren again.

I have that urge every minute of every day. Chocolate helps.  ^_^

And you're right -- stache-tastic Cullen is a dead ringer for Herren and Mr. Smith. Must be a pair of kooky uncles.  ;)

(cue that part of the game where Cullen inherits a one-of-a-kind set of dragonbone plate just in time for Act 3...)

And he could talk to me in that language any time. Which, by the way, does anyone know the name of their language? Is it just called Qunari?

Hmm... if that's Wade, they did a terrible job with his cameo. It doesn't even sound like him. :?

I meant that if Wiedzmin was saying that the Smith in the video IS Wade, they failed epically at excecuting his appearance in DAII. <_<

Apparently there is some stuff about how names work for a few different cultures in the Dragon Age RPG too. http://social.biowar...595/297#5582563

Huh, that's interesting!  A little different from what DG said with respect to Fereldans.

edit: So, OK, it sounds like it's Cullen the Templar. /end of line   ;)

Then he must be from nobility if they've really decided to give him a Surname. Hm, this could be interesting!

What strikes me as odd is that DG didn't know he had a last name, meaning, DG, who invented the naming system (assuming), didn't plan on him being a major character. Someone else named him. So does this suggest Cullen will not be a major character in DA3?

Depends on whoever is writing him I guess. I think it definitely points to the fact that Cullen isn't a character that "belongs" to him.

Can anyone tell me canonically what happens in Kirkwall directly after the end of DA2? Specifically, what happens, or is most likely to happen, to Cullen?

Yeah, okay. Aww and that would suggest that he has some real fans in the Writer's Pit who have lobbied to make him more important to the story!!

My theory is that whoever has wrote him (be it as just a npc/cameo or companion/LI) decided to give him a second name (for whatever reason) because he's no longer going to be addressed as "Knight Captain Cullen" or "Templar Cullen" because title and rank will pretty much be obsolete (especially if he is a companion). So rather than him just introducing himself as "Cullen" they decided to Jazz it up a little by adding in a Surname, that possibly could be part of his back story.

Good theory!! We've had single-named characters before ("My name is Fenris") so having just one name wouldn't normally be an issue. But apparently Cullen DOES have a second name, indicating that he would fall back on this second name now that he's not longer Knight-Captain.

Doesn't the Arishok say something like, "La Qun (sp??), from an elf?" when Fenris speaks that language to him?

Yeah, I like to imagine that he used his rank and title as a bit of a shield to avoid being too over familiar or warm towards people. Introducing himself as "Knight Captain Cullen" sounds a lot more formal than just "Cullen". But, take away his title and what does he have? Just "Cullen", just himself. He's no longer a Templar, but a man with no rank to fall back on. So what does he do? Introduce his Surname into his introductions instead, thus still maintaining a formal approach, and a way to remain detached and seemingly prevent himself from getting attached to people.

I'm half expecting him to introduce himself to the Inquisitor as follows:

"I am Knight Capt... uh *pinches bridge of nose* Cullen *Insert Surname*"

I wonder if all this uproar about microtransactions possibly being in DA3 and EA being the "big bad" in general will push the devs into revealing info on DA3 a little earlier?

It's where you can buy items 'n' stuff in-game, with real money. As far as I'm aware it's not mandatory to buy said items since usually you can find them in-game anyway, but it's supposed to be a cop-out way of acquiring everything with minimum effort lol. Currently I'm not bothered about it, we'd only really need to worry if it becomes complusory to buy said items/levels/etc in order to progress further in the game(s).

Pretty much but it depends on the game. Some F2P(free-to-play) games basically make you pay for MTs if you want to get anywhere. By the time you get done spending money, you actually end up paying more than a single price or sub fee. It's a shady way to get someone into play their games and just make them keep spending money. Some games even cut gameplay content out and sell it back to you through MTs. That's not cool either.

ME3 has a good MT formula. It's basically used for shortcuts. You can buy packs to get the items faster in MP. That's ok because all the content is still accessible to anyone who bought the game even if you don't spend an extra penny. That same MT formula is used in Battlefield 3 and I don't think it's great. Why? Because it's competitive while ME3 isn't. That means people can P2W(pay to win) and gain competitive edges on you. If I want to stay on that competitive edge, I have to fork over a bunch of extra money.

It's all on how they're used. Most MT business models aren't consumer-friendly at all and that's why gamers hate it. They're used for entry-level gamers to try something out and exploits consumer ignorance by making more money off it.
