I still live with my parents but go to school, it's much easier and better than any other alternative. If I got a job while living where I do atm, I'd just be getting paid for gas to drive to work. 4.20 and rising everyday 9_9

So my source of games comes from when I do have some spare money, if my boyfriend gets it and I borrow it, or on special occasions my parents/boyfriend might get me one as a gift.
...This makes me sound bad and lazy, but money is difficult to come by anymore.. ;_;

It's ok, no one here will judge your situation.

Jobs are difficult to come by everywhere, by the sounds of it. That's why this whole MT thing is worrying, being potentially charged to progress further into a game is a bleak situation for the average gamer.

There was something similar with the new Pokemon games if I recall

If you wanted a few new forms of already existing legendary Pokemon you can catch, you had to buy some sort of 3DS app that let you do it. The app is only a few dollars, but I just can't buy the Nintendo points needed for it and be done. The cheapest I saw one of these point cards at a few stores was $20.
It may not be entirely similar, but it's close enough for me.

What strikes me as odd is that DG didn't know he had a last name, meaning, DG, who invented the naming system (assuming), didn't plan on him being a major character. Someone else named him. So does this suggest Cullen will not be a major character in DA3?

Depends on whoever is writing him I guess. I think it definitely points to the fact that Cullen isn't a character that "belongs" to him.

Yeah, okay. Aww and that would suggest that he has some real fans in the Writer's Pit who have lobbied to make him more important to the story!!

My theory is that whoever has wrote him (be it as just a npc/cameo or companion/LI) decided to give him a second name (for whatever reason) because he's no longer going to be addressed as "Knight Captain Cullen" or "Templar Cullen" because title and rank will pretty much be obsolete (especially if he is a companion). So rather than him just introducing himself as "Cullen" they decided to Jazz it up a little by adding in a Surname, that possibly could be part of his back story.

DG wasn't Cullen's writer in either game, but originally Cullen was only a  minor character. There's an interchange with Sheryl Chee and DG back after DA:O re: Cullen, all that creepy hair brushing stuff, where Sheryl says that when she was writing Cullen it was an afterthought to make the templar in the cage the same guy you meet in the Tower. So, it definitely sounds like he wasn't originally very fleshed out. You can also see that a bit from his chr file, which is rather short.

On DA3, this is totally what I'm thinking as well: that for some reason he suddenly NEEDS a last name, like how Lola described. They could even do that without getting into his backstory, for the simple reason that an NPC needs a way to introduce himself. Of course, I'm hopeful that it means we learn more about his background, too!

In this case, he could still just be a regular Joe, like being a commoner with distant nobler lines resulting in a last name, you just didn't need to hear his last name prior to him having his rank stripped. If he is a noble or something, then I would expect the last name to be a bigger character point then, where we learn that he was the blacksheep for choosing the templars or something (bleh, like Evangeline...). I suppose that's another reason I'd rather him be a regular Joe: that's just one too many similarities with Evangeline.

This is one of the few things, if not a big one, that make me doubt whether he's going to be a companion. His character has SO many similarities with Cassandra and Evangeline that his character might need a completely new back story to make him different enough to justify his being there,

I'm sure he'll show up, I just don't know how it would work.

Yeah, hard to say. One hopeful thought I just had: The fact that DG wrote yet another character so similar to Cullen's relationship to the mage-templar war could mean that having that kind of insight is important for the overall story.  So whether it's Evangeline or Cullen or someone else, I would expect the "conscientious objector" templar/Seeker to show up.

Yeah, I worry about that too. But then again, perhaps Cullen's story (if he's a companion) will be based more around his personal struggle, experience and "angst" rather than the fact that he is/was a Knight Captain or possible ex-noble etc.

At this point I just want to hear who the companions are...or just see them. One or the other would be great...though screen shots of the latter are preferred.

Can anyone tell me canonically what happens in Kirkwall directly after the end of DA2? Specifically, what happens, or is most likely to happen, to Cullen?

I asked this and I think it got lost. But also I think no one really knows. But re-posting just in case.

A little off-topic (well maybe not... we can call her the female version of Cullen! ;) ), but isn't this portrait of Evangeline simply lovely??

LOL Rats, I knew there was something else I wanted to post about when catching up!

The answer: No one but the writers know. Anything you can imagine at this point, goes.

Personally, I think it hinges on whether he gets busted for what happened with Meredith, leading to two big possibilities: prison/ejection from templars (demotion??) or eventual promotion. If he gets promoted, then there's a chance he was one of the 15 knight-commanders who didn't object to Lambert breaking the Nevarran Accord and separating the templars/seekers from the Chantry.

Yes, which is also in the book excerpt the artist included with the pic. So presumably that is black in the pic.

Wow! It is very lovely. I really wish I had that kind of talent sometimes. <sigh>

Dr. Moto - I think the whole post - Kirkwall story is up for debate. I don't recall anything canon. Onlywhat Varric talks about and we all know that he'd never embellish a story. ;)

Special thanks again to R2 for giving me the preK hand holding necessary to get my avatar changed. lol

She reminds me of a dark haired version of Kate Winslet in that pic.

Gosh, you're right! She sorta does!  I love the nose in particular, which is very distinctive. This is totally my mental picture of Evangeline now.

And, meanie: My pleasure, dear!  Loving you Coq au vin!! bwahahaha!!:lol:

Ah, soo cool!  That reminds of something I read in the Q&A list I posted yesterday. Someone (I guess Wiedzman!) asked if we'd see weather effects and such, and DG said it depended on if they changed engines...  Well, fast forward a year, and we've changed engines! :crosses fingers:
