Morning all. Since I finally tracked down the passage I was looking for, I thought I would share. It's an interesting insight into the events that happened elsewhere in 9:40 and what the Rivaini Circle in Dairsmuid was like. Also, how "brutal" a Right of Annulment is intended to be.

From pg 102 of World of Thedas:

The Annulment at Dairsmuid

When we heard of the injustices against our fellow mages at the White Spire, the Circle of Magi in Val Royeaux, I feared what was to come. Our Circle at Dairsmuid is small and isolated. It exists largely as a façade to appease the Chantry.

When the other Circles rose up, the Chantry sent Seekers across the bay from Ayesleigh to investigate. They found us mixing freely with our families, training female mages in the traditions of the seers, and denounced us as apostates. Perhaps they thought we were spineless rubes who could be intimidated with a little bloodshed. Before I was First Enchanter, I was the daughter of Captain Revaud, of the Felicisima Armada. I know how to plan a battle.

They brought with them a small army of templars. We fought. And we might have won. But they invoked the Right of Annulment with all the unrelenting brutality that allowed. It is their right to put screaming apprentices to the sword, burn our “tainted” libraries, crash irreplaceable artifacts under their heels, tear down the very walls of our home. No mage has the right to disagree.

We of the Dairsmuid Circle wait now, behind barricades. I have sent word to our brother and sister mages of this outrage. When they break through, we will not die alone.

Final journal entry of First Enchanter Rivella(?)
[Rain?] in Dairsmuid, 9:40 Dragon

Speaking of crazy, I wish to commence fantabulous choreography at an Orlesian Ball.

LI may or may not be welcome.

OMG The Annulment at Dairsmuid sound horrible. I will kill ALL the mages for being apostates. Posted Image
Ok just kidding. But, from being pro Mage in DAO I am slowly slipping towards pro Templar every time I am playing a new round of DA2. Brainwashed by Fenris no doubt. Also, Cullen being a Templar and all. He can't possibly be wrong. Right? Posted Image

They also talk about this briefly in the Rivain section, where it seems that the Circle in Dairsmuid might be more moderate take on a Circle of Magi than elsewhere. Heh. Hence the more brutal crackdown, I suppose. Very interesting.

p. 82 of DA: The World of Thedas:

…odd relationship with the Chantry and the Circle of Magi. The circles of Rivain function much like those elsewhere and are supported by the Andrastian nobility. However, they tolerate and work with the seers, allowing the wise women to keep apprentices and remain free so long as they aid the nation’s templars when required.

Nowhere in Rivain is the Chantry influence stronger than in Dairsmuid, the capital. Rivaini royalty are Chantry faithful, but also progressive in their beliefs. If only out of necessity. The nation, with its patchwork of cultures, remains one entity through consensus and compromise.

Since the Seekers brought the Templars, does that mean that Dairsmuid did not have a local contingent and was semi-autonomously run by the Mages themselves?

Still, that's a brutal crackdown...

What the hell, Templars? You used to be cool!

Gosh, what's most sad about Dairsmuid is that it sounds like they were doing it RIGHT over there. Training young folks, people still hanging with their families, mages/witches practicing freely to HELP the city and the people.

Ugh!
