It's only cheesy if you write it cheesy. What if (based upon the Asunder plot) the Templar order no longer serves the Divine. What if Cullen find this unacceptable? What if the Divine choses him as a spy or uses him in some other context? Heck, he could always take it upon himself to hunt down apostates and continue with his original oathes to protect mages, etc. We can't assume that a romance with a mage would end badly because the rules from the beginning of DA2 no longer apply if they use Asunder as a plot guide. Seriously, all bets are off. I'm actually very excited to see where this game goes, regardless of Cullens role. (Don't hit me.... hard.)

^This!! I agree that all bets are off at this point. I actually think that could be the whole point of DA3 will be to find a workable solution somehow to the mage problem. After all, how else can the war end but with some kind of treaty. Or, the templars could win and decimate the mages and send the survivors to work camps. Or, the mages could utterly win and turn all of Thedas into Tevinter. But realistically, I imagine they'll find some middle ground.

And, there you could be, settling down with Cullen in that middle ground and having little mage-templar babies. :D:D:D

Call me dramatic, but I was kinda hoping everyone would be so busy fighting each other that they wouldn't notice the veil tearing open and all the demons/corypheus/etc pouring out of the fade into Thedas *que Sandals prophecy.* Then everyone would sh!t their pants and have to team up and work together to close the veil, then at the end they'd decide to reform the Order under "new management" giving mages breathing space, or form a new order that isn't so strict.

Y'know, I'd even let Cullen die for a cause, but only if my character could then sacrifice herself and die with him... just for shock value lol.

I wouldn't mind taking him into the fade either, let him have a taste of what mages have to face every day. Maybe that would give him a new perspective on magic too.

That would also be facinating! What would everyone do if the Veil completely ripped open? I forgot about Sandal's prophecy, to be honest. Throw in a few nutty zealots like Anders to muck it all up and we got ourselves a big fat bowl of crazy stew! lol I would truly LOVE for part of the next game to be trying to figure out what's actually happening. I love a good mystery in the middle of chaos.

I'm hoping the mage and templar war is a big part of DA3's plot and the developers don't decide to set it so far forward in time that we're forced to simply read a few notes about how it turns out in the Codex.  If it is a major part, I'm half expecting to see a Seeker Cullen.  I agree with meanieweenie that I don't think Cullen would resign himself to rebelling with a majority of templars and would choose to remain in servitude to the Divine.  Seeker just seems like a natural progression (to me anyway) for one such as Cullen since he was already beginning to police other templars by the end of DA2.  I'm also of the opinion that Cassandra will be the Seeker companion that has been hinted.  But maybe if Cullen is in DA3 (as a companion), we could get him as a templar, and his companion quest could be aiding him in becoming a Seeker.

Along the lines of Veil tearing... this would fit with the mage/templar war and would go along the "history repeats itself" pattern.  The Codex states that sites of great magic and bloodshed greatly thin the Veil, and what better setting for that than a holy and magical war?  With all the lyrium that would be flying about between the mages and templars, that's a ****storm in the making.

It's been a theory of mine that Kirkwall was always such a difficult place for mages to have safety and stability because it was a site of Tevinter Imperium slave trading/oppression/bloodshed for what the Codex insinuates was a very long period of time.  This tells me Kirkwall has a very thin Veil, thus making the mages easy demon prey and that would make sense with Kirkwall's insanely high blood mage population.  Granted, they never seemed to live for very long after turning down that road, but I digress.

If DA3 has the Veil tear, I think it would be kinda cool to have Kirkwall be the spot for it and then this mass outporing of demons just raze the place.  Then again, I'm sick of Kirkwall after four playthroughs of DA2.

Amusing side note:  When this thread had about 30 pages I subscribed to it, but for some reason I never would receive any post notifications.  Apparently the team maintaining the forum fixed that little bug because it all of a sudden began working last night.  So every few minutes my email notifier would ding from everyone posting so much and I had to turn off the subscription, lol.  It is so hard to keep up with all these posts!

Love the Grey Warden armor on Cullen. Very amused by the OMG look on his face after having sex with the warden.

This makes me laugh after reading Asunder and the Calling. Given the statistics, seems there would be a 100% chance we'll head into the Fade in the next game. LOL

I agree, this would be interesting. Indeed, the war itself should probably just be background to something that feels more immediately urgent. Love the idea of the Veil breaking because of the war.

And, re: Kirkwall, didn't the Band of Three, or whatever they're called, specifically set out to tear the Veil in Kirkwall,  using all the slave misery and adding a bunch of death on their own? But, I also wouldn't want to go back to Kirkwall. I imagine there are plenty of places where the Veil is thin. [edit: OK, the Band of Three were researching this and found that the Tevinters were seeking to thin the Veil]

This happened for me, too. It would have been handy  back when posts were few and far between... but not so useful right now. LOL

For DA2, there's no toolset. And, for some swaps, it's not super complicated at all. The easiest thing is modifying your savegames using the gffeditor.  For DA:O... I have no idea.

If you'd like to poke around, I can send you some how to links for DA2 swapping.

EDIT: And, glad you're feeling better! :)

I think you still can with xbox... You just need a program that gets the save files off your xbox hard drive and onto a PC.

I love how this thread has exploded, the other companion/squee threads and BSN'ers seem quite shocked that an NPC has so much love, especially since it's Cullen lol.

It's just occured to me that I've never spoken to Cullen as a male Mage, supposedly it's very different to the female Mage encounter. I've looked it up on YouTube and this is what I found. He sounds much more like his DA2 personality:

I'm gonna load up DA:O now and have a little experiment, I'll type up what he says in all the convo options.

*Edit* I just checked, he pretty much says the exact same things just in a different order. Here's it transcribed anyway:

Cullen: *Professionally* Greetings. I'm glad your Harrowing went well.

Mage: Who are you?

Cullen: *Sternly* I am Cullen, I was to strike the killing blow if you had... become an abomination. I am glad you didn't.

Mage: But you would have if it was called for.

Cullen: (Letting his guard down and professionalism slip) *Sigh* It is my duty. Some Templars I know discuss it with glee, I don't share their enthusiasm. I try to serve the Maker first and foremost, as long as I am guided by his commandments I cannot go wrong. Honestly, I have never seen an abomination... or been called to slay one.

Mage: So you could have made a mistake?

Cullen: Gregoir would have guided me... something must happen. But, what if it's not obvious? Could abominations be walking among us right now?

Mage: I am sure there are no abominations here.

Cullen: This is still new to me. Maybe one day i'll be as dedicated and driven as Knight Commander Gregoir.

Mage: He is a very dedicated man, yes.

Cullen: You must be busy, perhaps we can talk another time.

So, it appears he's equally as unsure of himself if you play as a male Mage too except he reveals more about his concerns. Poor old thing.
