If I'm being honest, I think I only really like it for it's light hearted bits like the garden party, mainly because throughout DA2 there weren't really any parts where you could take time out to do silly things. In DA:O we had the campsite in which you could converse with the companions and relax, plus we had a good number of silly/humorous little side quests that didn't require us to fight at all.
I'm hoping DA3 will give us the option to do the same and maybe hang out with the companions a little (like you could in ME3).

I liked the puzzles in MOTA. I want more of that in DA3. Not many games do puzzles anymore where you actually have to think. Most puzzles in games now can be solved instantly by a 5-year-old. I remember sitting around for hours figuring out some puzzles in the Silent Hill games on PS2. Oh boy.
I've solved every other puzzle presented in Dragon Age thus far, but that face-flipping puzzle stumped me. I finally had to look up the solution on Youtube.
I generally prefer Legacy to MotA, but there are elements of Mark that were superior to Legacy. The boss battle, for instance, was a lot less frustrating. Also, the fact there were special quests for each of your companions (except Merrill, for some inexplicable reason).
Plus, I lobbied pretty heavily for a ghast companion, as I think they would make a nice change of pace to a mabari pet.

It amuses me as always that he will kill or spare people, willy-nilly, all based on the Champion's suggestion. Poor Cullen, victim of the PC's agency!
I like how angry he is when he walks up to Hawke and co. on the Wounded Coast though. Rrrr!
And my precious Alain was there. He and Cullen totally shared a moment... mostly when Cullen briefly glanced in his direction and casually asked Hawke if he should kill Alain. Mmm, such passion! ... Just remember that true genius is exhibited by the efforts of those who create fanfic pairings out of pure nothingness...
I kind of felt a little sum'n-sum'n between Cullen and Hawke for the first time, too, maybe because I'm playing a female Hawke ths go around. I guess my male Hawke's aren't into templar types lol
What's funny is this Hawke is romancing Isabela, and something tells me Isabela would've totally been up for a threesome (does that even need to be pointed out...) lol

I always got the impression that Cullen was growing increasingly sick of his job in DA2. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's vocally relieved to no longer be of any rank or under any strict routine once he gets used to the freedom (if he's a companion).

I just think it would be kinda cute to catch him behaving like a normal human being, with his guard completely down in an amusing situation (like him being drunk).

You know what I would like to see in DA3? A scene where he's drunk. Like, maybe we walk in on him and "Iron Bull" (or whoever) having a drink together in our castle, or he's gotten himself drunk in a tavern between quests for whatever reason. Like, maybe due to his strict training he can't hold his alcohol well because he's not used to it, or he can drink like a fish but we catch him after one too many lol.

And then he spills his guts and tells us how much he admired our Warden/Hawke because we all know when you drunk, truth comes out.

If he had been formal from the very start then no one would've paid any attention to him and he wouldn't have gained the following he has, but every now 'n' then his professional facade slips and as such people are intrigued to find out more about him. It's like we're purposely being teased by brief little moments where his personality creeps through, the first time being in DA:O with a Amell/Surana, where he either has a crush on her get OR voices his concerns about what an abomination looks like and how he's new to the Order to a male Surana/Amell, and then again in DA2 when he speaks about anything that either flushers him (the young ladies of the Blooming Rose), unnerves/upsets him (his torture/Feynriel's coma if you gave him to the Templars/the dead mages hanging in the Gallows courtyard in Act 3), pleases him (Hawke restoring the Amell family name), and encourages him to stand up for what's right (standing up to Meredith).
It's those brief glimpses that makes me want to strip away his rank and Order (and clothes, hur hur), drag him off on a whirl wind adventure with the new DA3 protagonist 'n' co and discover exactly what he's like as a person, without all the formalities, rules and regulations within the Templar Order to restrict him.

Lol, doesn't even need to be anything like that. It would just be fun to see him let his hair down and relax for a bit.

Oh, what does he say if you give Feynriel to the circle? I never have before.
I can't remember his exact words but it's something along the lines of:
"That poor lad Feynriel has deteriorated since you brought him to the circle" and then goes on to mention about how they can't wake him (or something) and that he was basically worried/concerned for him.

Y'know, I think one of the reasons why we all come up with so many different theories and fanfic about Cullen is because we desperately want to see what he's like as a person, rather than the formal Templar work ethic he's adopted ever since we rescued him from his cage in DA:O.
If he had been formal from the very start then no one would've paid any attention to him and he wouldn't have gained the following he has, but every now 'n' then his professional facade slips and as such people are intrigued to find out more about him. All of this is why, at this point, I enjoy writing Cullen fanfic more than fanfic for other characters in the series. There are so many hints to the complexity inside of him but just enough leeway to interpret it in a range of ways.
Don't get me wrong, I'm interested in seeing him as a companion in DA3 but, as an NPC, he's high octane muse fuel. Once the writers make him more concrete, I don't know if I'll find him as much of a writing muse. Maybe yes, maybe no, but it will depend on how many gaps and holes they leave in the story. But that's okay.

Here on ao3: http://archiveofouro...rg/works/706506
Or over on ff.net: http://www.fanfictio...History-of-Lies
(And, there's a shorter AU Cullen novella I've been anonymously posting elsewhere but I'll eventually archive it on ao3...)
Also, sorry to have missed the 1500 page celebration. I was gone for a few days. Life has been too busy for me to get the first page of the Dark and Stormy Night graphic mini-novel done but I will, probably for page 1600, assuming we don't hit that too soon.

In that World of Thedas book, that passage about lyrium addiction has a little blurb from a Templar about how taking lyrium stops the nightmares. It makes me wonder if those nightmares are caused directly by their job and the horrors they witness daily, or if it's the lyrium that initially triggers the nightmares, for which you need more of the stuff in order to be able to block them out and sleep soundly?
Either way, I guess that explains the dark circles around Cullen's eyes!
It has become a plot in a few stories I'm drafting.
I'm assuming that the job gives them nightmares and the lyrium is a drug that takes the nightmares away. A job like theirs *should* give a normal person nightmares.

So, I've started playing the Mark of the Assassin DLC again for the second time ever. I've gotta say, I love how the transition is made between leaving Kirkwall and travelling towards the Chateau. If we do travel around Thedas in DA3 then cutscenes like that with the companions/protagonist talking over the top would be pretty awesome!
I noticed that with Tallis, when you first arrive, you can talk to her and it brings us investigative options to interact with her, very reminiscent of DA:O, even if it does only happen once or twice. This time I brought Warden Carver along with me and he's being really friendly, I much prefer him like this. Even Anders is in a good mood LOL!
You can definitely see the kind of approach they're leaning towards with DA3 with all of MotA's colourful surroundings and stuff.
So I have been contemplating the DLC's (other than Sebastian, bought that when it first came out) and since I am making a few more playthroughs on DAO, I will probably do the same in DA2 ..... are they worth it?
Carver kind of reminded me of my own brother, sort of, not as .... difficult but I love him just the same so I actually really liked his character. Although he did tend to get a high rivalry with me because I didn't exactly see eye to eye with him. But you know, hes family so you can't hate him really. After I got him into the Wardens he seemed to lighten up, I liked that.
Legacy is great and MOTA is pretty good. Legacy is exactly how DA2 should've been built. If they do DA3 similar to that DLC, then DA3 will be a great game.
Some highlights of what that Legacy DLC did so well
-Wave combat done right
-A lot of enemy variety and each encounter seems different changing tactics/strategy up
-Environmental variety in that it transitions from one environment to an entirely new one every so often. No more generic landscapes like DA2 had
-Secrets(they even have a hidden boss encounter) and great story/lore
Those are the big things I can remember from Legacy. I honestly think if DA2 was designed like Legacy, you wouldn't see half as much complaining. MOTA is pretty good but I don't think it's as good as Legacy. It does much of the same well though.
I did look up legacy reviews and was tempted, I might actually pick that up now

Edit: Yes yes... I got it wrong, was thinking about Grace.... never helping that ***ch out again...no one takes Hawkes brother and lives to tell the tale.

So guys, question of the day, Bhelen or Harrowmontand why?
I always chose Harrowmont, I just thought he resembled a good guy in the scenario. As far as I can remember he never resorted to using underhanded techniques to secure his place on the throne. But I think my view was biased after playing the dwarf playthrough and actually learning about Bhelen in the first place.
Plus Harrowmont is a cute old man, I am a sucker for cute old people...<3

Grace was the crazy lady who killed Thrask
EDIT
Usually Bhelen. A progressive dwarven future seems interesting. And my casteless dwarf approves.
I should really go through a dwarf noble playthrough now.

I usually go with Harrowmont personally, but the epilogue slides do seem to favor Bhelen a bit. I like Harrowmont's....idk "goodness", but I like Bhelen's reform/equality ideals. I just don't like how he's gone about things. Killing your brother doesn't fly with my Cousland
ya killing brothers..... I don't know, it just seems a bit excessive. It's like having too many candles on a birthday cake that sets fire to your house... just excessive.

An obvious power-hungry madman dwarf with interesting ideas? check
Spare the Architect? check
Let Anders live? check
Give the Collector Base to the Illusive Man? check, though we've seen that doesn't really matter much in the end.
The world is now magically more interesting to me with these people alive.

Lol I can understand that. Truth be told I haven't set the dwarves up for a great future in my playthroughs. In no way indicative of my feelings towards the short awesome race, just how the dice fell. I let Harrowmont become king, destroyed the anvil and killed the architect. The last one was at the behest of Sigrun though
I love those little guys I hope I get to help out where my Warden sort of....erm...boned them.

He's quite excessive. I won't say I disagree with the outcomes of his actions...but the methods. I'm definetily not an ends, justify the means kind of guy.
