I make Harrowmont king because Bhelen is a murderer; never really thought about it much to be honest. They all remind me of US politicians, all in it for the money and the glory; they don't really care about anything else, so I could care less who's on the throne lol The dwarven people are pretty sad if they need an outsider to decide who their king is anyway. Reform will come from within.

I picked Harrowmount... then realised it probably would've been more beneficial to the casteless to put Bhelen on the throne, but then Harrowmount's voice actor (the guy who also voiced Zaeed in Mass Effect) died, so I decided to keep him in power as a tribute lol.
awe no way

He died last month, fortunately he'd already recorded his lines for the latest SP Mass Effect 3 DLC, so that'll be a nice little tribute to him. <3

On Bhelen/Harrowmont, my favorite playthroughs are as dwarves, so I really like this question.
As a noble dwarf, I mix it up. In one playthrough I might trust Harrowmont and elect him (which extra double-dealing just to stick it to my awful little brother) or I might decide that Bhelen played his card well and an Aeducan needs to stay on the throne anyway.
As a casteless, I usually go for Bhelen because it means much-needed social reform and my nephew will most likely be his heir.

Yeah, I was wondering because recently I watched a quest on Youtube where they're hunting down the last of Harrowmont's family line. I was like, "WTF? You won, now you're going to far!" I mean I can kind of understand getting rid of Pyral, but what did this guy do?

I'm not a huge dwarf fan so I've only played both of those origins once through. I normally sided with Harrowmont though. Bhelen reminded me too much of someone I used to know and despise. LOL

To me the dwarves remind me of the people in real society who HATE change and go about any means to prevent it.

I always choose Bhelen. Yes he's horrible but if you think about it, Surface dwarves will eventually outnumber Orzammar dwarves. Bhelen knew the traditions they followed for so long were slowly putting the dwarves to extinction.

Good points! But that also brings up another morally gray question: does a society have the right to stick to its traditions, even if it will slowly destroy itself without reform?
They're a lot like the Krogan in ME in that respect. Anthropologically, it's interesting to step back and wonder how the Warden, as an outsider, can feel qualified to change the course of an entire culture just because it doesn't make sense to her.
.... at the end of the day, I think most of my Wardens are just trying to get the thing resolved so she can end the fragging Blight.
