I think ... companions. I know, the generic answer. But it's the characters that do it for me in these games. I want to know their names, what they look like, and just let my imagination run loose. I'd also like to know who's voicing them.

There are a lot of things about DA3 that could disappoint me. But I KNOW I won't be disappointed by the characters, and the quality of writing and pure ove that went into their creation. You know?

Yeah, I know I'm gonna love the companions, even the annoying ones lol. The only thing I'll be disappointed about in regards to our followers will be if Cullen isn't a companion/LI, but then I'm hoping that we'll get plenty of notice with the companion reveal so that I can get over the disappointment if he isn't, and have it not affect my attitude towards the game when it comes to me actually playing it.

Yeah, I think it's like that with any form of artistic medium. Hell, everyone has had an idea, or made something that they didn't really want to share in fear that it would get stolen, ruined, or twisted into something else entirely. It's a natural reaction.

I guess it works the same for people who have their canon playthroughs of BioWare games and then find it weird/hard to read the comics in which things happen to the companions or their love interest that doesn't fit with their saved game. Or alternatively when someone writes a fanfic in which the character behaves completely out of character (in a bad/completely unbelievable way) and you find yourself completely unable to continue reading it because it feels so wrong that it actually kinda makes you angry.

Yes!! Sometimes fanart does that to me, too; like fanart of ultra buff Fenris sweeping delicate FemHawke into his arms; I mean that is straight up romance novel fodder; if anyone is doing the sweeping, it's Hawke (just ask Varric LOL).

And that one fanart of Cullen sort of aggressively grabbing on to Amell and holding her staff out of arms reach; it's just so OOC that it upsets me on a fundamental level... Cullen is the noblest of guys, and a shy guy to boot; in what universe would he do such a thing???

But that doesn't mean those artists are bad or wrong; I just have that kind of visceral reaction is all.

I once read and Bethany/Cullen smutfic which had Cullen being ****ing awful to her during a sexual encounter that was basically forced upon them by Isabela, it went on for pages and pages, one minute he was insulting her for being a  mage and then he'd make her cry so he'd suddenly be all tender and sweet, then he'd turn on her again, whilst she'd get her own back, all whilst numerous sexual acts occurred between them. And this went on and on for pages and pages.

After a while I was like, **** this bullsh!t and stopped reading it. I got to the stage where I was like "oh for god sake either kill each other or find a way out of that ****ing room!" I was really angry LOL!

I was told to go to the kink page to look for stories and that they weren't all just smut filled messes as the name implies. So I am giving this story a chance, thinking it is kind of funny and in-character, of Isabela accidentally growing a penis due to some magic spell gone wrong, and Anders is horrified and offers to remove it for her, but she's like, Nah, I kinda like it. (Very in character still, right?) Then Merrill appears out of nowhere, drops to her knees, and starts sucking it.

It wasn't that it was badly written, but there's only so far I can stretch my imagination! It was completely out of character for both Cullen and Bethany and it went on for so long with them essentially doing a wash, rinse, repeat act with Cullen's behaviour jumping from one extreme to the other every paragraph that I was just sick of the sight of it after the first 5 minutes, I skimmed over a lot of it to see if the story changed things up a bit. It didn't.

I'd be a hypocrite if I condemned all smut, because I've written some very light fanfic smut myself. But for the most part, I just want to keep that stuff away from me. Especially when it's … like that. *shudders*

If I'm in the mood for porn, I'll get actual porn, thanks.

Yeah, Merrill wouldn't do that! She's all about the act of "love making" (I hate that description) being an intimate moment between partners.

I read a good sex scene once between Cullen and Surana or Amell (can't remember which) where he's in love with her but she's still in love Alistair, so she sleeps with Cullen because she likes him and during sex he asks her to tell him she loves him, even though he knows she doesn't mean it. The way it was done was very sweet, although I found it hard to read the rest since my Amell Warden is completely smitten with Alistair and totally wouldn't do that and kept him as a Warden so they could be together.

I don't read fanfic for the smut, unless it's particularly amusing. I don't mind romantic scenes in fanfic leading to sexual acts, but I prefer them to be done in a way that fits the characters personality and benefits the story in a way that adds some sort of layer to the couples relationship. Having Merrill running around shagging half of Kirkwall definitely isn't "in-character".

I do love a bit of fan fiction, particularly ones about minor NPCs because you can create any background for them. One of my faves is about Ser Perth and the Tabris warden.

The main thing I want to know about DA3 is what our protagonist's name is and what his/her default appearance will look like. I also wouldn't mind knowing how a mage class would end up within the Inquisition (if we're part of it at all), but I'm not sure that could explained without spoiling the story? Although, if that part of the survey leak is still correct then I guess we kinda already know the basic outline of it.

Aside from that, I wouldn't mind seeing a few screen shots of the in-game enviroments, and I guess I wanna know who the companions are, but that's only really so that I can get a definite yes or no confirmation of Cullen's inclusion as a companion/LI... although, at the same time I kinda don't wanna know because if it is a no, then I'm gonna be really disappointed and if it's a yes then I like the idea of being surprised when we do finally get to recruit him. 

What about you guys? 

I would like to know a bit about the human 'origins' of our protagonist and what puts them in the position of leading whatever group of companions we end up with.  I would also like to know if we still have 'dog' and how he/she will be used (we he/she be part of a DLC?)  


I have to admit, when I first played DAO and DA2 I didn't know who the companions were or even anything about the story (I was a late comer and never read anything about DA before).   So overall it was a great discovery!

I 2nd this. I'm just curious about the companions and their VA's. I'd like to be surprised on the rest of it.

And MMG - Isabela's magical weiner story is disturbing. No, that is insuffcient. I feel like I need to bleach my eyeballs having read that. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for some well written smut now and again.... and again.

In my experience, the only good fanfiction is bad fanfiction where the characters are absolutely butchered to suit the author.
"MY LI IS BETTER THAN YOUR LI SO READ MY FIC WHERE MY LI BEATS YOURS UP"
... I'd be lying if I said my vision of fanfiction isn't slightly skewed, but I will say I have come across good fic before and it was great.

And... about game info. Speaking of writing, I really enjoyed those character stories that came out for DAII a little before release. Other than that, at this point I'd be fine with just a screenshot or two to get a feel of the new engine and world.

There's a certainly a spectrum in characterization, partially I think because different folks see different things in existing characters, and no one can really say what's 100% "in character" except for that character's creator. But, indeed the spectrum is wide... particularly on the kinkmeme, which is probably why it's also heavily tagged.

OOC-ness (and even in characterness) on kinkmeme is great. It's hilarious and I can take it with a laugh. In the end, I pretty much like all fanfic so long as it's actually readable, including "what is going on this is great" fics.
The only time I question everything is when If feel like an author is trashing a character just because they don't like them.
I guess the negative feelings of the words and towards the character bounces off to me as the reader? Maybe making me feel like that is an accomplishment on their part? I am not sure.

I'll embarassingly admit I have written things before, but I just don't post them.

ya... ruining a character's persona is .... but ruining it in THAT way, bringing sexual acts into it is really borderline sick. Anything about abuse with sexual acts is, well there is something wrong with that individual. Especially when you take two characters who people already know and also know their personalities to where they know those characters would never do that.... it just is extremely horrific writing. I am sure in an academic list of what not to do when writing.... this would be highlighted lol  god, now I am all ragefest about this person.  I don't even know who the writer is but I want to verbally assault them.

So this is the part where I ask where some good Cullen fanfic is, I have already read miss muses wonderful pieces and now I am having a hard time finding similar stuff lol a few authors gave me the creeps and others are just...hmmm
