 Oh dear, modding...

I must have screwed up somewhere, because everyone is now naked. :lol:

My first attempt at modding DA2 for my xbox resulted in Fenris and Merrill prancing around in their undies :D

in this thread was a debate about bioware being feminist or something stupid like that. I was actually proud of some of the boys for taking a pretty hard stance in some of the matters (and girls too). It was hard to look away from that thread lol.

Oh yeah I posted in that tread once or twice, but it got offensive and teeming with ignorance pretty rapidly, and I realized there was no point in staying.

For what it's worth, the DA games have been wildly feminist, and I love it!!!!!!!!!

I stayed well out of the way of that one!

I try to romance other people in Mass Effect, but change my mind the minute Garrus talks to me in ME2, tbh.

While reading through some DA topics from tumbr and gamfaq, I find it interesting how many people typecast Cullen fangirls (I'm not techically but still ) as these crazy, creepy groups of fans. There's nothing wrong with being a fan and being passionate about a game or an aspect of the game. While criticizing other people's taste, I'm sure almost all those guys have objectified women in real life or in video games before, so they are not really in any position to speak. :?

Too many people are quick to judge, they also said a lot of things about Kaidanites as well.  Look at the freaking Miranda thread, objectified right there.

I saw a guy post something, (god its BSN, can't even remember where) once I find it, ok found it lol

Geez, I can't stand that guy, he posted constant topics about the Witcher while putting down DA constantly. I can see why he likes that game so much, not that there's anything wrong with that.

At this point, whenever I see anything bashing stuffs that are not hetereonormal like bisexuality, sexism, or Cullen bashing or anything of that nature, I would just start ignoring it or trolling. It's like a broken record at some points.

Isn't the OP of that thread the same guy who says that it's impossible for women to be stronger than men, so they should use tactics like seduction and charm to win, rather than full on fighting etc. Makes me wonder if he's been screwed over a few too many times by gold diggers or something LOL!

Ya, dealing with the obvious trolls is not something I like trying to reason with, since they will always say the opposite so there is no point to continue any discussion. lol

I don't really consider myself a radical feminist or something. I like being treated like an equal, but I am not going to rub my views in someone elses face or brand them sexist if they open the door for me. I do appreciate the roles they have given women in the DA world as well as the ME world. It is nice that we are included in things now versus being shut out.

Holding the door open is a nice gesture that we should all do because it's polite; but a guy holding doors open specifically for women is by definition sexist, even if his heart is in the right place lol I used to feel awkward when men did this (and I live in the south, so they do it A LOT), but I tell myself now it's about being polite, but I know I would get odd looks if I held the door open for a man... which is stupid.

I am a feminist (I suspect everyone in this thread is a feminst, but the word has been so demonized that few understand what that means anymore... and it doesn't help that feminism itself is inherently indefinable), and yeah third wave feminism is as much about combating sexism as it is combatting homophobia, racism, religious intolerance, and all the rest. BW's writers are obviously thinking carefully and deeply and passionately about these games, and that is a beautiful thing!!

Really? It's normal for women to hold the door open for men and visa versa in the UK, it's just polietness.

I tend to stay away from the word "feminist" they really need to come up with a new one or something since it has a lot of stigma attached to it. The ones that go over the top and become radical are not helping anyone or the word lol.

I hold the door open for anyone :( especially old people... I love old people. So cute :)

Yeah, at least where I live. Only men do it. Now I'm not talking about holding the door AFTER you've gone in so that the person behind you doesn't get a door slammed in his/her face lol We do that. But only men hold doors open for women here.

I do live in the American south, though.

Any stigma attached to the word was placed there by chauvinists and those who purposefully wished to demonize women, women's rights, and gender/sexual equality.

I always hear talk of these "radicals" and those who are "over the top" but I've yet to see examples of such women. Radical feminism does exist, but mostly in writing... and I would argue is based on the entirely correct premise that we exist in a patriarchy that puts men above women and relegates women to the status of outsider.

A great example of this is Shep and FemShep. Hawke and FemHawke.

I was raised in IL, most people hold the door open as long as people are still pooring in until the next person takes it. Never really noticed anyone being rude in the south, always considered it more "southern hospitality" thing. But then again I was never in the southern states for longer than 3 months or so. Hey, I live in the West coast, and you would be lucky if the guys didn't  slam the door on your face.:P

From my experience, the guys from the South are much more polite toward women. The difference in culture is definitely glaring when you start to travel around the country.

Oh if you mention the f-word, you will have to immediately run and put tape over my mouth because it is one of my favorite subjects lol! My area of study is children's literature, but it merges with fem theory quite often (as you can imagine).

Oh they are EXTREMELY polite!! Everyone is polite in the south. All children call their elders "sir" and "ma'am"; some children even have to call their parents that. And you don't say bad things about people; you don't make a scene. So for example, even if you are homophobic and aren't happy about seeing two men or two women in public, if someone else starts talking crap to that couple, you will go up there and tell that person to mind his/her manners and show some respect.

I am not even kidding; there was a video done of this that proved people in Texas are more likely to stand up for a gay couple than people in NYC!

That's not to say people in the south are goodness incarnate; they still VOTE according to their inner hatreds, fears, and prejudices.

Weeeelll, it's threads like that that cause most of us to stay in here. So, I'd say let's not really get into feminism and gaming and whatnot here in our happy place. By and large, BW, and particularly the DA writers have done a  bang up job with Dragon Age. 'Nuff said.

So what happens if Cullen is a typical gentleman in DA3, holding open doors and stuff like that? :D
