I love your imitation of the Southern accent.motomotogirl wrote...

I imagine you sound like Sandy from Spongebob when you say that.
I don't watch Spongebob and can't find any good YT vids; is she a southern character??
She's a squirrel from Texas. Here's a short clip from Sandy.

You know, I was thinking about this as I went to bed last night, and was thinking something similar. I don't really know if Thedas has that notion of chivalry that we would naturally ascribe to Cullen as a "knight in shining armor." It goes back to that odd quote I found in Stolen Throne that signals that female warriors are unusual, despite how Dragon Age initially tells you that they are as common. I think those notions just sneak in there as you say, as signals to the player based on our own cultural cues.motomotogirl wrote...

And you wouldn't find it sexist or sexist of the person that added it into his character/dialogue?
Well, what I would do (if I wanted to put my critical lenses on) was question whether or not Cullen lives in a society that espouses our own medieval notions of chivalry. If Thedas is indeed a world where men and women are seen as and treated inherently different (i.e. women are by nature gentler, more emotional, and spiritually cleaner than men - all things that are untrue, but show that gender is nothing but a social construct), then I would certainly question why the writers chose to create it in that fashion.
But more than likely I would conclude that the writers weren't thinking that deeply and either relying on their own subconscious ideas about gender (which, again, is socially constructed) or that they are relying on the player's inate ideas about gender: i.e. Let's make Cullen chivalrous because that will clue the player in to something about his character ("He is noble and good").
Why did you ask me that; I want to write an article on Cullen and Thedas and gender now lol
It reminds me of this article about RPGs and the "hey sweetheart scenario" that calls out some other inconsistencies in the DA messaging on gender roles in Thedas.
edit: Come to think of it, you should *totally* write an article on that! I've got your title: Does chivalry exist in Thedas? That would be interesting. Inquiring minds want to know!

They'll certainly be different from DAII, anyway.

Different is good, although I hope we get as much conversational interaction with them as we did in DA:O.

It's stupid. DA: A - only in special places. DA II - only at home!

My theory is that we'll get the full conversation options back, but only between quests. Any conversation we try to have during a quest would be quest related only to avoid any awkward moments like declarations of love amidst the corpse of a Broodmother. *Eyeballs Alistair*.

I'll be fine as long as it's not exactly like Origins where I already have Alistair shagging and professing his undying love to my Warden just right outside Lothering.
He has the worst timing!

Party camp was so relaxing. It's like when I go camping irl, you sit around that fire and it's so soothing. So relaxing. I miss my companion camp. I hope they bring it back.

Agreed. I hope we won't be restricted to just the castle. If we are then I hope they come up with some inventive stuff to create atmosphere and ambience during those scenes.
Well, Gaider said he wanted to try to bring back a little of what we did in DAO but he hinted it would be in more than one place. Like a tavern or in the castle. He said he felt DA2 was too scheduled on when you can talk to companions. If we're going on the road, then it makes sense we have a party camp available to us. I mean, traveling to other countries around the world means you gotta pull that lice infested bedroll out lol.

Hmmmm...I wonder how they'll be different? In personality and character? In how they're involved with the story? How, when and how often the romance dialogue/scenes take place?
Either way, really looking forward to finding out!

"I think you can comfortably expect to see something akin to the party camp re-appear some time in the future. Not THE party camp exactly as in Origins, but something in the vein of a "central" location where they gather. Further details, alas, I cannot share.
I would expect you'll be able to talk to your followers more freely than Hawke could in DAII as well, for what that's worth, though, as I'm mentioned before, not at any random location.
Thanks for the notes in here, though. Some good discussion, and I think people will be rather...pleased by what we're considering. Though, when I say that, please note that all of this is "direction" at this point. No new official DA projects have been announced, after all".
