Guillaume de Launcet was still a bit of an ass since he cared more about what people would say if they found out Emile was their son, as pathetic as the poor sod was

To be fair, Guillaume de Launcet is actually a pretty decent guy. Not his fault his wife is screechy, his son is a moron with bad hair, and his daughters are Cinderella's evil stepsisters lol
This is so true... but compiling this kind of list is tricky because even the *nice* Orlesians might be completely obnoxious (like Erlina). I'm afraid I failed in an epic way at making the list accurate. Especially since we don't know about a lot of the book characters yet.

I don't think Galyan is Orlesian either.
He is, even though the accent in DotS was definitely English. And charming!

Cullen obviously created huge uproar, some positive, some negative, but I think in general the response to seeing him in the survey was excitement.
Really new people leaves Sera, Dorian, and Iron Bull (there's also unnamed dark-skinned scribe woman). And then there is Cassandra.
I'm surprised by how little people seemed to care about seeing Cassandra. In fact I think I was more excited than her fanboys (does she even have fanboys? other than Danny
I've not seen one person express interest in getting to know Dorian.
In this thread we seem to like talking about Sera as a potential companion.
And we've also mentioned Iron Bull once or twice.
Just random thoughts running through my head at midnight

Know I was just thinking? Can you imagine if the "leak" was actually on purpose? Like to test fans' interest in potential characters. Who do you think has stood out/impressed fans the most?

LOL! They would do something like that, wouldn't they? The filthy buggers...
In the old-ish topic about the leak (I think started by Brother Warth?) there was quite a bit of interest in Dorian (or as they called him because of the picture, "Trident Guy") -- though I did see a lot of posters say that if we were to have a magister they'd rather it be a lady.
I think the Iron Bull could be really fun -- as long as he's not anything like an Oghren clone.
I really couldn't care less about Cassandra. But then I said the same thing about Isabela and she ended up being one of my faves -- so what do I know?

I wouldn't even mind if I could finish the job in DA3 on her...
But really, it's another big reason why I wasn't interested in Orlais. I don't like their pompous attitudes like Mark of the Assassin. Their accents are very annoying to me too. No offense to any French people in here, because I'm sure y'all don't all sound like that. I mean, Leliana was nice.
I'd have to think Bioware is going to do a serious overhaul of VOs for Orlais if it's our major setting. I think the general consensus on most Orlesian accents is we don't like them. You'd have to imagine not everyone in Orlais has a French accent either. Just like anywhere in the world, certain regions of a country have more extreme accents. How many different British accents do you have in UK? I can think of a few. Geordie being one.
What's preventing people from migrating to Orlais and being prominent figures there too? I just doubt we see many NPCs like Duke Prosper in DA3. It would be hard to take the game seriously and they'll probably throw a few NPCs in like that for comic relief. That's ok.

I hope they get Riordan's VA back. Possibly for a companion. Possible for a LI because DAT VOICE. I certainly liked that voice, anyway.
I, personally, like Leliana's voice too.

If Orlais is really like France, perhaps most of their jerks tend to come from Val Royeaux (Paris) and give them all a bad name by association? Apparently even many of the French consider Parisians somewhat obnoxious?!
I am all for snooty Orlesian nobles, actually! I want to ruffle their petticoats/whatever the devil dudes wear... cravats?

The only reason I picked the mage option is because I wanna romance Cullen is a mage protagonist but I still wanna give my protagonist a depressing background LOL, otherwise I'd probably pick a rogue with a background like I described.
Rogues are just my favorite.Though I end up playing everything at least once!
If Cullen turns out to be a companion/LI, my first playthrough in DA3 is going to be a Mage for that very reason!
Rogues are my favourite too, like you I do end up playing everything at least once, but I have more Rogue characters in the DA games than any other class.

I'm actually rather looking forward to Orlais. I think we've just scratched the surface of their culture, seeing some of the nobility via the de Launcets and Duke Prosper et al. in MotA, but then there's also all the intrigue ("the Game"), the masks, and also the seedy underbelly of all that amongst the commoners which we haven't seen at all. I don't know that I'm really keen on a list of characters that pits "good" vs. "obnoxious" though (sorry, brush!), since that's not really a polar comparison. Amongst the "obnoxious" there's quite a spectrum of good (e.g Isolde, even if annoying) to grating and played for comedy (e.g. Arlange) to downright evil (e.g. Duke Prosper). Also, we've seen a broad spectrum of characters within Ferelden, good, obnoxious, misguided, extreme-accented, and I would expect to see the same in Orlais (or wherever we go). I don't know that I want to start stereotyping all Orlesians already based on accents.
Ah, this! There are no words for how much I'm looking forward to learning about Orlais and all it's culture and history, and I'm not sure I'm too keen on that list, either, no offence to the people who get a kick out of it! The accents might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I rather loved Riordan's and Leliana's and I didn't really find Isolde all that annoying, truth be told. I rather liked her for what her character was: a mother who loved her boy but went about protecting him the wrong way -- though I can't REALLY blame her for her decisions. We've seen how bad the Circle of Magi can get, after all...
I'm actually looking forward to hearing the french accents, actually. I imagine Bioware will be looking for French voice actors with... lighter inflictions too, seeing I doubt they'll make an entire game with heavy accents. I imagine Orlais won't be the only place we see either, depending on where our Inquistioning takes us.
I do hope, if our character is to be Orlesian, that we get a nice accent, though... hell, maybe Riordan's VA would work for the male protaganist? 'Cause that voice.

I love, love, love rogues! Despite that all my canons have been mages thus far, though. I chose Amell because I wanted her to be connected to Hawke, and I chose MageHawke because I really, really like Carver.

Lola, love your ideas. I agree that being a Regular Jo would be great. Although, arguably, Hawke wasn't reallly a special snowflake. No special powers or predestination to become the Champion of Kirkwall, she just got lucky by signing on to Bartrand's expedition and was good enough to survive that crazy Thaig.LolaLei wrote...
Ok, so that thread in the DA3 forums about having a protagonist that isn't a "special snowflake" has given me inspiration for a new question:
If you could pick any type of background for your new protagonist, what would it be? And how would you have him/her introduced into the Inquisition. This includes family background, class, gender, where he/she is from, race, etc. Feel free to go into as much or as little detail as you want!
Here's the kind of background I'd like for my DA3 protagonist and how she comes to be the Inquisitor (or whatever):
Female. Apostate mage (although I also wouldn't mind this kind of background for a rogue or a warrior). Human. (I don't mind where in Thedas she's from):
I also love the mistaken identity notion for the Inquisitor, since it is hard to find many plausible ways to go from a nobody to leading the Inquisition. Reading through the discussion gave me another, tangential idea.
This would never happen since we've been told you won't be Chantry or templar aligned necessarily. But, wouldn't it be cool if the blast knocks you unconscious and when you wake up, you don't quite remember what you were doing there. You're wearing a uniform, so you must be a Seeker, and you're worried about letting on how muddled you really are, so you just keep nodding when someone tells you to do something. Next thing you know, you're part of the group figuring out who's behind the blast. You're even leading it based on a few heroic things you do. Then throughout the game, your memories start to come back to you, and eventually you find out... it was YOU who set the blast. You're the villain you've been searching for all along!

LOL My first DA2 playthrough I didn't realize you could save "over" old save; I just saved a "new" save each time. I had about sixty saves. The game actually told me I couldn't save anymore LOL
