D'ya know what I love about this thread (aside from it being about Cullen) is that we actually have intelligent conversation in here, rather than it being one big squee fest (except for when we find hot pictures of him LOL.)

I wonder if DA3 will re-introduce the "hardening" option from DA:O, I quite like the idea though I think it should take more than one incident to make the said companion "toughen up," I also think it would be kinda cool to be able to "soften" a companion. So, for example, Cullen is still being a bit hard faced towards mages and over the course of the game you can encourage him to change his mind or perhaps his general outlook on life is quite sensible and he restricts himself, throughout the game you could encourage him to lighten up, relax a little and learn to have fun.

I like that idea. Knowing that you had a quantifiable effect on him, as opposed to the vague sense that you *might* have influenced Cullen, if you squint and turn your head just the right way.

Which is the problem we had in DA2, because it seemed like Hawke had some sort of positive effect on Cullen, but it's never made clear whether it was his fellow Ferelden that helped open his eyes or if it was something he came to realise by himself.

Hey everyone. I'm still around. Sorry for not posting for awhile. My fiance is still at my house, so I've been playing other games and still attending my summer class at college. I haven't worked on my drawing or much of my fan fiction; I did just update it by merging another chapter with the third chapter on fanfiction.net.

Hm, just found this comment in the "Templar for DA3 companion" thread:

DA3 is supposedly going to occur after the events of Origins and DA2. So therefore Cullen is old and out of shape to be a teammate."

Do you suppose this guy could be right? Has DG or one of the other devs mentioned something about when the game is supposed to be set that I don't know about?

It's hard to say. It could be a year after DA2 and still it would be accurate to say it's after the events of DA3. I don't recall that quote but I think I remember something DG said about DA3 being about the fallout and how the world has changed since Kirkwall kicked off the war. But it didn't sound like it was much later. It could be five years maybe. So I think that commenter has assumed much. Until DG or another dev says it is decades later or something, I'm inclined to believe it'll be soon after DA2. You can't have something like that happen, say there will be consequences and then expect us to believe those consequences waited 50 years. That's my take on it anyway. I doubt the mages and templars waited a while before skirmishing all over the place. I wouldn't buy it if you said the deoms waited to cross a torn Veil. So a significant amount of time passing seems unlikely.

Do you suppose Cullen will be too old? At least to old for a love interest? Even if he was something stupid like 18 in DA:O he'd still be getting on a bit if it is set 5 years after DA2.

I can't wait to get this story out of my brain so I can get back to my other epic fics. :D

I'm busy. Always busy. Moves suck toes.

Sorry to hear your weekend is kind of dull and slow. I hope to be on for a while tonight. Will you be here then?

Naaaah! If he was 18 in DAO, thus being about 28 in DA2, and the wait is five years (or hell even 10 years) he'd be still in a good range. Look at Loghain! Many still found him hot and he was in his 40s. I think. If Cullen were 32-42, I would still hit that. But I'm hardly one totalk: my husband is 18 years older than me... And Cullen will be hot for some time to come. This is fact. :D

True, and Kaidan in ME3 is in his early 30's in ME1 and is about 35-36 in ME3 'n' he's still kicking arse and looks good doing it! I reckon it'll be set a year or two after Kirkwall, enough time for things to get bad war wise but not so long into it that we miss all the good stuff.

You two are so funny! Being in the 40's will suit me just fine. Image IPB

Agree with the above. Unless DA3 is set decades in the future, Cullen will only be in his 30s - 40s. And that's all fine by me. Even if the new PC is a 20-something ingenue, I think it's fine. Anders was older than Hawke, and that didn't seem to be a problem for the fandom.

EDIT: I used to have a problem with this, in the sense that as of Act 3 he's like a level 25-ish character. So for DA3, they'd have to reset him somehow. But they also did that with Anders.

How old was Anders supposed to be in DA:O and DA2? They probably won't address his age, they never seem to in Dragon Age games anyway.

Y'know, I suspect the character design art style in DA3 to be near enough the same as DA2, just polished up a little with different hair styles and maybe more advanced options when dealing with facial features. Chances are they'll keep a similar art style for environments too (with Orlais looking like it did in MotA,) which could work out to everyone's advantage because that means they can spend more time on the story.

Speaking of which, did I imagine it or did David Gaider or one of the others mention that the art style of DA3 would be similar if not the same as DA2?

... I feel like I saw it somewhere, but it could have just been on here in one of the speculation threads?

This sounds familiar to me as well.

Also, wasn't Anders around 30ish at the beginning of DA2? That'd put him in his late 30's by the end of the game, yes? It's not like it'd be robbing the old folks home if Cullen is 'older'. (You young whipper snappers!)Image IPB
