Melca: No one is attacking your mod friend, and to my knowledge none of us posted anything rude/horrible/flamey on the confession itself. I believe the mod herself was generalising about people being rude on threads (within the BSN in general, about any confession that some people MAY find insulting). And if she was aiming it at us then I suggest you tell her to check his thread out herself, she'll find no **** s are given about the DA confession Tumblr posts in here.

I feel that you need to think before you post, this is the upteenth time you've got on your high horse and starting getting soap boxy and abrasive with people in here when there's no need. No one in here attacked or is being rude about your mod friend, hell, no one cares about the Cullen confession itself. It wasn't even offensive.

I also think you need to be careful with your "my way or the high way" attitude, not everyone is going to have the same opinion as you. Danny has every right to be offended by the post, just as your have every right to feel that he is wrong. However, attacking him for it isn't cool.

I just don't understand why you get so argumentative when you could clearly see that no one was trying to cause a fight or offend.

Um...I have had a nice private discussion via PM with Danny.    He knew I didn't say anything offensive and I know HE didn't say anything offensive either.  Its been straightened out. We agreed to keep in touch via  PM.

I'm glad. We need to keep things friendly up in herrrre.
And it takes a really strong person to say they're sorry. So good job.

Deuce, I'm going to have to check that game out! It's going to be super busy for me for the next six weeks or so but once May hits I'll have some extra time on my hands!

Open up all the windows, let the spring breeze blow my curtains around while I sit on the floor with my fat dog in my lap playing a brand-new (to me) RPG... ahh... heavenly!
Meanwhile, I'm supposed to get 8 inches of snow tomorrow!! Image IPB

Melca: I wasn't just referring to the Danny thing. Anyway, there's no point in covering old ground and arguing about this over and over again.

I don't think any of us want this thread to end up as bad as the DA3 forums.

I don't think i could do it. I'd have to hand in my resignation. M-Law hasn't been on the forums in months!

...Man, now I feel like playing through DA II again to spot the occasional funny faces. I might just set aside my DA:O playthrough for the moment to do that.

In the DA3 forum there's a thread intitled "enough about me, let's talk about me!" The topic of the thread is that the OP feels that a lot of the companions talk to much about themselves and prattle on about their "plight" etc. He thinks that BioWare rely too heavily on shoving the companions narcissism and need to talk about themselves down the players throats.

His suggestion is that a better way to showcase the companions personality would be to reflect it via their actions and reactions to the things that occur in-game and ditch the heavily wordy conversations. "A well written character should be able to showcase their personality, without having to bore you with their backstory like a narcissist" - (His words, not mine).

Here's the thread, if you wanna take a look:

http://social.biowar...3899/1#16374027

Which leads me to my question. What are your thoughts about that? Do you feel that there are better ways that could be explored for us as the player (and the protagonist) to get to know our companions?

I'm in two minds about the OP's suggestion, I kinda agree and disagree.

On the one hand, I absolutely adored that we could talk to the companions for hours in DA:O about their thoughts, feelings and backstory etc. One of my favourite aspects in BioWare games in general is talking with them and gradually learning about the way they think/feel as the game progresses and the friendships and relationships that develop from it.

On the other hand, in DA2 I did get pretty tired of Anders bringing up his plight and injecting it into pretty much every single situation and quest throughout the course of 10 in-game years. I also wasn't keen on the fact that the companions mainly seemed to only want to talk about what defined them, it felt very "me me me/I I I" whilst Hawke ran around fixing their problems, all the while giving very little away about their pasts in comparison to the DA:O companions. (Obviously there are exceptions to the rule with certain companions in DA2, but I can't be arsed to go into a disection of each companion lol).

That being said, I wouldn't ever want to remove companion interaction and it would be my personal preference that DA3 bring back the option of being able to converse with and ask questions to our companions at leisure. However, I do feel that having the companions personalities shine through via physical actions and reactions to environments, quests, situations and interactions with the protagonist and other companions/NPCs beyond the approval/disaproval rating would certainly add an extra dynamic to their personalities. So, I guess a mixture of both would be ideal, although I presume that it would likely take up resources that could be used better elsewhere.

I also feel that body language would be something that would also aid the companions personalities to shine through. For example, let's say our Inquisitor took Cullen into a Brothel during a quest. His body language during cutscenes whilst in there could change to embarrassment/flustered and his face would visibly show his discomfort at being dragged into such a place, additionally add to the mix one or two vocal reactions whilst running around in there/during said cutscenes and that easily puts across another side to a companions personality.

How do you guys feel about it and what would be your preferences/suggestions?

Not to derail your topic Lola (I'm still trying to think of an answer), but am I late to the party or does it look like the Ghast has a hand on it's head?

Talking to the companions (and the party banter) is one of my favourite things about the game but I see the OP's point of view. I think that both would be good!

In my first play through, my Hawke didn't romance Isabela. I thought she was amusing, handy with her daggers, a bit saucy but that was about it. In another play through, Hawke did romance her and I saw another side to her through the conversations (particularly after their first night together when she talked about her mother and her first husband). It gave her more depth and she is has become one of my favourite characters in DA2.

On the other hand, I know that some people are not always keen on Sten as he is not the easiest companion to get along with, particularly when you talk to him (he can be a bit abrasive). But you do discover a kind of 'softer side' to Sten through the party banter between him and Leliana . I have to admit I would have quite liked to have seen a cut scene of Sten picking flowers or playing with the kitten or just looking longingly at a cookie, just to show that!
