I would like body language and agree that it would require a bit more vocal mentions, considering sometimes I even miss things said in dialogues lol. I wonder if it would effect resources greatly to implement that. We have it to an extent, mainly with our protagonist or in the form of a shrug or a coy smile.
I'd like to see any reactions further fleshed out though.

Not to derail your topic Lola (I'm still trying to think of an answer), but am I late to the party or does it look like the Ghast has a hand on it's head?
I think it's wearing someones glove on his head!

Short answer Lola is that I agree, though I think that solving the issue is as you said adding more optional player started dialogue ala DA:O and have them ask a bit more about you like Morrigan and Fenris did (at times). Also make their plight a bit less prominent. No one likes a whiner after all (I say realizing the irony)

You're onto something there!
Having the companions ask the protagonist more questions would also be a great opportunity, not only for the companions personality to shine through via reaction/action to the reply, but also as a way to roleplay our protagonist further. Like in DA:O when Morrigan asks you in Lothering about your mother and you can choose whether to say that you love her (meaning that you have met/know her and have a good relationship), that you've never met her, or tell Morrigan to mind her own business. I definitely think more questions asked by the companions about personal things would be beneficial.

D'aww, don't feel bad! Neither you or Danny should. *MY* bad for suggesting we shouldn't "cast a searchlight" on us here. The Cullen thread has endured worse, and it shall endure more! (or... at least until one of the other companions/NPCs gets announced... and then THOSE fans can take the heat! LOL).LolaLei wrote...

Sorry, I think it was me. I commented on a previous note comment not the post by DA Confessions. I was being positive about this thread. Now feel really bad. I will no longer go on Tumblr :-(
Very sorry.
I think I read your post, it was absolutely fine. Don't feel bad, you have nothing to apologise for.
We turn the other cheek and bust out our "blame the Cullen fans" banners... Because, didn't you know? Apparently it's *our* fault, the Cullen fans, that there are so many hate threads/comments/confessions about him.

I dig the ghasts' brand of magic, because it doesn't seem like they're casting spells so much as channeling magic through human corpses. Gives them sort of a hoodoo feel as well.

Sorry.. just catching up this made me guffaw loudly! LMVAO. It reminds me when I would accidentally kill a bystander in NWN and then suddenly every tom, dick, harry, baker, small child, was red and after me.LolaLei wrote...
Hehehe, I stole and killed everything!
There's only about 3 or 4 people left alive in Whiterun and that's only because they can't die. Now Farkas attacks me every time I return home... Which presents problems, since he's my husband. :-S

That OP might find the conversations about the characters boring, but I don't because I want to learn more about them and... how am I meant to do that if I can't make them talk about themselves? I find character backgrounds interesting! They can showcase their personalities, but they can't showcase their backgrounds. You have to get them talking about those...
...At the same time... I really like when it feels mutual? I like when the companions want to know the protagonist as much as you want to know about them, so I love when they ask questions. Even Alistair's licking-a-lamp post-in-winter-question was fun to answer differently with different types of characters!
And in Mass Effect 3 I loved the moments when the characters asked about Shepard, how s/he was feeling about the war and the like -- and I loved when Garrus asked about Shepard's family/background! It was really sweet with my spacer, because I felt like the two characters understood each other and the worry they both had for their family's safety.
So... I'm all for mutual conversations!

Agreed, it didn't happen so much in DA2. Aveline asked Hawke a few questions about his/her background and stuff, but in general they all seemed more wrapped up in their own problems.

The glove on that ghast's head sort of fits in with their whole "goblin scavenger" vibe, as most of their equipment looks cobbled together from junk. And ghasts definitely love hats, which seem to indicate their rank in their own ghastly social structure.

This is a good point! It must be a fine line to walk between enough and too many questions to the protagonist. I mean, 20 questions to the protagonist may not be as interesting, since by and large you're more interested in learning about them. You already know about you!Dirgegun wrote...

I'm also a little torn on this question (which is a good one, btw!). I understand there must be game resource limitations to more specific body movements to connote character, and I've always been impressed that they already emote so much. I dunno... Characterizations is always stronger when you can "show, not tell", so sure, having in-depth conversations and body language/actions to judge would be great! But, there are only so many resources to spent on a given character. In some sense, I feel like DA2 already tried to do this. IIRC, DG said that the word budgets were the same between DA:O and DA2, only distributed differently. That more words were spent on the DA2 followers during their quests, in some sense on their "actions," and yet most folks seem to want the indepth conversations instead. So, if I were a dev/writer, I'd probably facepalm at this and say, "so which is it??"

That being said, people like to roleplay, so having a companion ask something like: "tell me about your childhood" during a conversation where he/she divulges a few details about his/her past gives the player an opportunity to roleplay their characters personality/background further by replying with things like "I had a great upbringing, I was educated at the most prestigious schools, trained by the best etc etc..." or "my life was hard, I had to do a lot of crappy things to get by..." and so on etc.
The thing about a voiced protagonist is that they become a character in there own right that the player wants to get to know via learning more about his/her backstory options etc of which we can choose from, so I think having the companions ask a few question in return that go beyond "what should I do about my situation?" (Which they never take the advice for anyway) would be kinda sweet. Same as how the DA:O protagonists gave the Warden a present, but the DA2 companions didn't bother, the presents they gave added an extra layer to their personalities and by doing so with a voiced DA3 protagonist we can then roleplay further by picking the protagonist's response/reaction to said gift.

Yeah, Cullen is one of the few characters who actually got better looking with the graphics change!
I'm so intrigued about how DA3 will look. Both DA:O and DA2, despite having major differences, still looked like Dragon Age games. Presumably the art style will still be similar enough that past characters and companions will be recognisable... I just don't want them to hit him with the ugly stick, or give him an awful massive beard lol.

Apparently the guy hates spikey armor, so whoever it is won't be wearing any at all during those scenes. Presumably it won't be a fade-to-black jobby this time either.

It sure would be nice to see that our gang has casual wear. I mean, nobody's always in their armor. As much as I dig a guy in uniform, it doesn't scream "Let's get it on!".LolaLei wrote...
