If she's not a companion she'll be important for sure. Otherwise her being introduced and recieving all this attention would seem a little... empty? She's a really interesting character, so I don't feel they'll give her a small part in DA3

...At the same time... will they make her a companion when there's a whole movie that showcases her background and character? It could feel like they're just going over the same stuff again. I know not everyone has seen the movie, but still...

It could go either way, really. I would really like her to be a companion, though.

Oh, she'll definitely be important. No doubt about it!

But as you said, they showcased her background and character in DotS, surely that would be something they'd want to do in DA3 if she was a companion? Granted, we had companions in DA2 that were already characters or companions in DA:O and DA:A, but their backstory and history was never explored as deeply as Cassandra's was. There can't really be much else to explore with her, unless the devs plan to make her even more important than Alistair was in DA:O, which is something Gaider said he didn't want to do again because it took too much attention away from the player/protagonist.

I'd like her as a companion too, but it just seems odd that they'd do something so majorly full of spoilers like that to a possible companion, which makes me wonder if maybe she isn't at all.

Well...Anders technically had very little to say about his background (in game I mean, not that we thorougly explored it in Awakening), but we could potentially hear more about her from her time as a recruit/before the movies or even before when her brother died. She could be a bit more focused on her task ala Merrill and make mentions of her past sparingly.

I agree though that until it's announced it's still in the air. I mean your right, it's a bit TOO obvious and if we return to
a more...general conversation style like DA:O learning about their backgrounds, their aspirations, etc than she might not make it.

Other than that I can only imagine they showed her because she is so popular and because it would generate hype about the game, ala comments like, "Somewhere....French". She could also be the flag ship companion like Morrigan and Isabela was in their games.

He didn't really talk much about his past in Awakening either, he mentioned escaping the circle and how it was crap being cooped up in there, but everything else was pretty much ****** 'n' arse (I miss Awakening Anders). Mind you, none of the DA2 characters went into much detail about their pasts when you compare it to the DA:O companions lol.

If Cassandra is a companion then it kinds sucks that the surprise has been ruined. It just strikes me as odd that (if she is) they pretty much told us all the really important/interesting bits about her in DotS, yet they won't even give us a rough estimation of when they plan to do a reveal in Spring (if it's gonna happen in Spring at all).

Oh definetily, they'll have a lot of work cut out for them that's for sure. I'm sure they could pull it off though. I hope Sheryll Chee writes her :D, though I don't mind whoever did it the first time to do it again.

Aside from getting Cullen as a companion/LI, I'm hope they'll return to conversation based interaction in a way that feels as indepth and "full" as it did in DA:O. I know we won't be able to talk to them literally anywhere (like as soon as a battle ends in the middle of a Broodmother corpse) but so long as we can fully talk to them when we're back at the home hub(s) then I'm cool, and not in a ME3 auto dialogue way either.

You're probably right, I'd just like to see what the Templars plight is like lol. I guess Cullen: "man of steal" could easily fill that role!

A few people in the DA3 forum are talking about how they think the "big bad" in DA3 will be the Qunari vs Tervinter or something. To be honest, that sound boring as sh!t.

I'm actually really interested in those two parties it's a cool plot because I can see those huge Golems going after the Qunari and the cannons on the dreadnaughts blowing holes in the walls as some super cool looking Magister/Archon is at the head of an army of gladiators and magisters pan to Sten/Arishok or his double leading an army of Qunari as there dreadnaughts land on the shore. Between them is our protagonist and two companions who share a scared look.

See, I'm not big on war games. When I first put DA:O into my Xbox I was fully expecting to hate it based on the description of this "Blight war" thing, but I played and was pleased to discover that the Blight itself served more as the background story.

The thought of the "big bad" being this war between Qunari and Tervinter sounds really dull to me. I wouldn't mind if it was a sub-plot, like the whole Circle Tower/Fade thing in DA:O, but I'd be so disappointed if after all this hype and the idea of being an Inquisitor, using different tactics to accomplish our goals amounted to nothing but a bog standard war between to different races. I can read about that sort of thing in History books lol.

I prefer the thought of something much more sinister pulling the strings and the veil tearing opening unleashing an unholy army of demons and dead things, followed by one scary as hell boss battle. I mean, if I'm gonna be an Inquisitor I wanna investigate something that turns out to be epic and mind blowing!

The thing that draws me into BioWare games the most, is the idea of a rag-tag bunch of misfits pulling together to accomplish something great and having this big adventure that they're thrown into due to circumstance. I adore the group dynamics and the friendships, relationships and rivalries that form within it

Well I didn't mean the Tevinter/Qunari thing for DAIII but for the next game (if there is one) I actually don't know what it would end up as. I'd like to see Tevinter pre-war, but eventually would it get to the war point? Would we set the city on fire? Would we defend the city? Idk.

My little scenario was more of a end game scenario like the Battle of Denerim or the Battle of Kirkwall.

I think I just love how people who wouldn't ever have even sppken to each other find themselves drawn together for a cause they all believe in or a protagonist they'll follow to hell and back.

Exactly!

When I play BioWare games , I physically can't bring myself to be horrible to the companions because they're putting their lives at risk following your character.

Same as I couldn't bring myself to force Alistair to be King. The poor guy has been through hell and back, had a terrible childhood, was forced into the Templar Order and eventually "rescued" by Duncan, despite the fact that being a Grey Warden is essentially a death sentence. He never asked for a single thing or had much luck in general, yet through it all he's a complete sweetheart... the only thing he requests for himself (aside from the romance) is that you don't force him to take the throne. Who am I to take him away from the one thing in his miserable life that he's actually proud of? So I romanced the absolute **** outta him and made sure that my Warden gave him all the love and affection he was lacking. I let Anora keep the throne, she'd be a better ruler anyway, it's win-win situation for everyone (I also kinda hope she got her own back on Empress Celene for stealing her man!)

Aaaand that's my general attitude towards all the companions, if they're willing to stick by my protagonist then my protagonist is happy to do whatever it takes to protect and look after his/her friends.

... I suspect I project my own thoughts and feelings onto my protagonists. Unfortunately (with the exception of one or two of my RL friends) most of the company I've kept in the past have turned out to be complete jerks, so I guess I just really like the idea of having a group of friends to run around with and have adventures with that don't turn out to be complete dicks LOL!

I always make him king because I think he'll eventually like it as well as the thought that if he's king than he'll be able to help his people to rebuild and feel a sense of accomplishement beyond something personal like being apart of the Wardens.

I just felt so sorry for the guy, come to think of it, I felt sorry for all of the companions in both DA:O and DA2. I'm a sucker for a sob story... which explains another reason why I've got such a thing about having Cullen as a romanceable companion!

I wonder if the Empress Celene is as attractive as people claim? Or if it's one of those Cleopatra things where she's not all that attractive at all, but she has her people spread rumours and stories about her unwavering beauty... I mean, she wears a bloody mask. She could look like an absolute rotter under there! And Calian was hardly gonna complain since their affair was a political move anyway!

Oh my stars, guys, you've been up all night?? Egad. Interesting discussion, tho! Love all the Cullen sob stories. That would be such a funny affectation they could give him. "Oh, this is nothing compared to that time..."

On going to Tevinter, I wonder if they would reserve that for a full-blown Tevinter/Qunari conflict like DG said was his original storyline B for DA:O. I do hope we go there, tho, eventually.

Agree on all the pros and cons of Cassandra being a companion. I think there would still be quite a bit to learn about her tho even after DotS, since she was a young hot head then. I don't know that being an "experienced" character is a prohibition from a gameplay perspective, since lev 27ish Anders was reset to lev 4 or something in DA2. But Cass's authority status within the Seekers of Truth could be problematic for following a newbie. They'd need to address it somehow, like Alistair's comment about following the Warden (but obviously something different).

I think the biggest thing that makes me think that she might not be a companion, is the fact that they made a massive deal out of her in DotS and then showed her as an "example companion" at PAX last year with the concept companion armor. It just seems odd that they'd ruin the surprise like that and yet they won't tell us anything about DA3 itself lol.

Maaaaaan, I really wanna play DA:O again but I can't bring myself to go through that Fade sequence for the one millionth time.

Damn my crappy computer, I could totally make a hot protagonist with all those mods, add in some new quests and use that cheat to skip the Fade and the boring parts of the Deep Roads. Grrr.

It's just all that backwards/forwards lark. Also, I have terrible geography skills so I always end up completely lost in the Deep Roads and end up going round in circles for hours. I mastered it last time I played DA:O, but that was in 2011 according to my save file, so I've likely forgotten its layout by now.

There is a tediousness to the deep roads that can get one 'spaced out', I remember the first I played it it took me forever to finish...mainly because of the stupid broodmother :pinched:, for me she was the hardest boss when I played DAO for the first time. Eventually though, I came to really like the deep roads quests, I like the length of it, and the epicness of it :)

Grrr.

Skip the Fade? :o Boring parts of the Deep Roads? :o ...Am I the only one who actually greatly enjoys those parts of the game? :pinched:

I find her the hardest too. The Archdemon is a piece of ******, I just make all my companions stand behind me on hold and I just fire the ballista constantly until the cutscene triggers!  In fact, it's harder getting to the Archdemon than beating the bloody thing!
