LOL, I'm getting sh!t for saying I wouldn't rescue Lily from Aeonar. People need to pull the stick out of their arses.

Oh, thank God I'm not the only one! I wanted to smack her for how she treated Jowan. Yes, he was a blood mage, but he's so adorkable and was just protecting you -- how can you completely turn your back on him after proclaiming your love for him?! Then again, I think I'm one of the only ones that really love Jowan. Poor lamb. I was so upset I couldn't recruit him.

On writers:

I think Mary Kirby wrote Merrill and Varric, while Sheryl Chee wrote Isabela? I could be wrong, but I think that was who wrote those three. DG wrote Fenris, of course, and... uh... gal who wrote the deep roads in DA:O wrote Anders. (I am so sorry I can't remember how to spell her name! Epler or something?)

On aggressive Hawke:

I still need to play through an agro Hawke! I keep meaing too, but get distracted by those sarcastic options. They're just so perfect to me. My canon Hawke is a completely sarcastic dude mage and I love him for it.

I can't play a Diplomatic Hawke. I've tried really hard, but there's something about Diplomatic Hawke that almost sounds arrogant to me -- I also don't find it as fun as sarcastic Hawke. Bring on the inappropriate jokes, I love them!

...It's probably why I play my Sith Warrior as a complete anti-athority, sarcastic dick. I get such a kick out of him calling Lord Baras 'old man' instead of master.

Thank god I'm not the only one! There are people that want to romance her after she's been locked up for years in Aeonar... Even if they had let her out early she'd likely be completely ****ing mental after the horrors she would have experienced.

... I actually quite like the idea of encountering her locked up in one of the dungeons in Aeonar babbling incoherently 'n' stuff. It would be an awesome gut wrencher (even though I don't like her) and I wanna visit the place anyway lol.

Hmm it is a Japanese game though, yes? Sadly they just have a smaller female workforce (percentage wise) than we do. Lots of women actually quit working once they get married (or never work in the first place). But I'm sure it has an English distributer plus I have a feeling the lack of female names would be similar on an Western credits roll ... I wonder how BW compares?!

They had two teams, one I guess in Japan? (I didn't really notice until team 2), and the other in Montreal. Both seemingly about the same size. Both very white, from my initial impression.

On Bioware, I think DG said that they have an unusually large number of women on the writing team, but then it seems the fact that they have a writing "team" is already unusual. For the more technical jobs, for lack of a better term, my guess would be about the same as the computer science field at large, male dominated, but I wonder!

And, you go, Nikki! Your guy looks great! Looking forward to Cullen.

I would love to visit Aeonar and possibly see Lily there! I don't like her, but damn it would still be a gut punch, and it would show how horrifying that place is meant to be...

...I... I think I'll make a mage my first play through. If we get to go to Aeonar, I definitely want my first experience with the mages' prison to be as a mage!

I knew it had 'epler' in it somehow!

Man, I love of all the DA writers. I would love to be a fly on the wall in the writer's pit. It sounds like they have a crazy fun time!

I wouldn't mind rescuing Cullen from there, like, they sent him there as a punishment for being a mage sympathiser (simply because he overthrew Meredith or refused to side with Lambert or whatever).

I never really thought of Cullen being in Aeonar before
I mean, I imagine that'd be a pretty traumatic experience. To be locked up by the people you considered yourself to be allied with, just like how those you opposed locked you up in a cage too once upon a time.
"Pick a side, Cullen!" :P

With Aeonar, I still don't understand why they send non-mages to a mage prison. It can't be the only prison the templars/Chantry have, I mean seriously. Plus it's all the way in Ferelden. In the Gallows and the White Spire they seem to have their own dungeons. So, why doesn't Kinloch Hold? So that's the thing that always bugged me about Lily. Why would she go to Aeonar? It make more sense to me to send Jowan there.

edit: OK, just saw a post by erilben on the Aeonar thread, pointing to a Mary Kirby post, that finally clears this up for me! yay!

"Since you insist on siding with these maleficar, your punishment will be the same. Send him to Aeonar!" ... Or something like that. Not that he's even particularly pro-mage, but I could imagine Lambert (or whoever is in charge now) using that as an excuse, especially since they're labelling the Divine as a mage-sympathiser under their thrall.

So, this is a little bit random. I just finished Tomb Raider,

Were you offended at any parts in Tomb Raider? I keep seeing all these people saying those devs have misogyny but I personally think they're just looking for attention. Sure, Lara takes a major beating through that game but she's a champ. How would that be any different than a male in that situation?

I don't know that I want to totally rehash the whole debate, but I was personally extremely concerned about the game based on the small bit of gameplay they had revealed early on and the fetishistic way the Eidos team seemed to describe Lara Croft's victimization and almost-rape during the first level. I almost didn't buy the game for that reason, since it almost seemed like torture porn -- with Lara Croft of all people! Eidos told us to wait and play the whole game, and having played it now, I don't feel that the game glorifies her as a victim; it shows her as a rather savvy survivor. My guess at what happened early on was more a PR failure, that whoever was introducing the game was a ****** and spun the clip the wrong way, keeping in mind that rape is a trigger for a reason and so should be dealt with sensitively. In trying to follow the controversy, I haven't seen much of the same outrage since the game came out. Myself, I felt like a three dimensional, well-written badass playing LC, not a victim or even a busty, male-gaze sex symbol, as ostensibly past versions of LC could  be described. It may have helped to have a female writer, who has said that she, for example, convinced the team that LC, instead of a bra, should wear a tank top under her outer tank top (that of course gets shredded up over the course of the game). Anyway, those are my own $0.02.

So, now they've revealed that DA3 will run on the Frostbite 3 engine instead, let's see how long it takes to get a proper reveal now.

Agreed on like, all of that. I know which scene they were talking about, and it's nowhere near as bad as that guy made it out to be. I mean, it ends w/ her shooting him in the face. That doesn't really scream "helpless" and "victim" to me.

I loved it! I'd always get stuck in those "I'll finish this part, then go do stuff" moments, and end up spending the entire day just stuck on my couch. Man, but poor Lara does really get the crap beat out of her from nature.

Agree. They used it for storytelling, not just gratuitous violence against women. And, it was used in a very powerful way, as that was also the first person she'd ever killed. So I actually thought  the scene was done well.

I also loved the game! A silly thing I enjoyed was how ridiculously filthy she was throughout. There's a scene 3/4 of the way through, where she's back in her room and looks in the mirror. I appreciated how she didn't bother trying to wash her face or anything girly... she just kept movin'. LOL

I know! That really bothers me :? ...she couldn't have really loved him if she abandoned him so easily, I understand her position and considering what she was probably raised to believe...but still, bad form on her part <_<. I would rescue her though, because that's what I do :P, I wouldn't be happy with her though <_< ...I've always liked Jowans character, he deserved so much better.

The thing is, if she can't really condemn him when she was happy enough to date a mage in the first place. It's double standards.

The whole "forbidden love" thing is all fine and dandy, until somone starts cutting up their hand and the demons show up. Some people are just so picky! :P

LOL Personally, I felt like they were both at fault, if I'm remembering correctly. Jowan had been full on lying to her; blood magic is a pretty big deal. If I were her, I'd be questioning all his motives about wanting to "run away from the Circle" with her. Could he have just been using her all along? That being said, boy, did she drop him like a bad habit once she learned about the blood magic... ahem, especially since that was suspiciously the point where they were caught red handed. Just seemed to me one of those relationships that looked  great from the outside, until the seams started to unravel. I felt bad that the Warden got caught up in the fallout of their relationship probs.

So I'm onto the final stage of my DA2 canon playthrough to be imported into DA3 and so far it's been riddled with hilarious glitches! First off Carver got stuck in mid-air for the entire Orsino monster battle, then he ran backwards around the room and Isabela fell off the screen. After that I made my way out of the Gallows and stumbled upon this:

Image IPB

Mages and Templars praying together. They stayed like that for a good 5 minutes until they realised they were supposed to be fighting me LOL. So then I make my way outside to the courtyard where Cullen saves my arse, but the Gallows hasn't loaded probably so they look like they're all battling to the death in the snow... It's actually rather pretty. I'm just gonna suspend belief and presume it was Winter when sh!t got real!

Also, during the battle against Orsino monster I think all the mages die (including Alain) because they disappear after you kill the monster... Unless that's a glitch too?

One thing I did notice, is that during the scene where Meredith starts to bollock Hawke, even before she mentions planning to kill them the camera pans in on Cullen as she's talking and he's pulling an expression that (I think) is him realising that what Meredith is ranting about is wrong.

I gotta say, I love Jowan as a character, and I did help him out later in the game, (it would have been great if he'd actually been implemented as a party member) but I felt pretty betrayed at that point too. I mean, I'd been told that he and Surana were buddies, and I didn't really get to become his friend through playing, you know? It was just assumed, so I guess my attachment to him wasn't as strong as it could have been. I was like, "Dude, we're BEST friends and you lie to my face instead of believing I might trust you?" Not cool. I'm sure Lily felt the same. Maybe worse. Also, even though it was a pretty extreme reaction, it was a pretty extreme situation. Maybe she wouldn't have seemed so awful if we got to hear her point of view. Anyway, I agree about them both being at fault.

Sounds like ridiculous fun! Is your canon playthrough an import from DA:O? Did it recognize all your choices? I could never get DA2 to recognize warden Alistair's relationship with my warden :(
