Huh. Been a long time since I played the game (this summer) lol guess I never noticed that!

Your picture kind of reminds me of a DVD start screen. Like for Harry Potter or something. Or a HP (or whatever) website where kids can click on different pictures and get different links/games.

I was just meandering around the forum. And reading thru more posts that think having romance in the game is the demise of BW games. Cuz it's so much romance content.

I'm thinking, "Who did you romance?", cuz my romance content, I must say, was rather meager.

I think they forget how little romantic content there is, simply because people talk about the romance aspect of the games a lot.

Really, there is very little. Most interactions we have with LI's is just regular non-romantic conversation, but if you're planning to romance said LI then a lot of it is just us filling in the gaps.

I feel the same. Half the time I'm wondering if Hawke and his/her LI are even still dating. Hawke gets wounded ... LI just stands sedately in the background. Okay, maybe s/he is just trying to be stoic and hide their feelings for Hawke lol

And as for Origins, the camp conversations were splendid, but outside camp, your LI gives ZERO indication that you are together ... especially if you are dating Zev or Leliana.

Ugh, yeah, I just couldn't read beyond the first page in that thread, if it's the one I'm thinking of. The most innocuous of thread posts crack open the scabs on all the long time battles. Humph. At first, they were like, "What?!?" But then after awhile it was much cooler. You could hear how the relationships, including friends, had changed.

Yeah, it's just a way to connect with the characters in a different way. And, why do we talk about it so much??  It's BW! Their characters are amazing!

I can't help but think, also, that with no details of any kind about DA3, the only thing we have much of a basis to speculate about is story and characters, technical gameplay issues less so.

But, that's a good point that the romances were also technically a small part of the over all game experience. Particularly... *sniff*sniff* us Sebastian-mancers.

I remember when Ashley in ME got sexified for ME3. There were quite a few guys that weren't happy. That said, "but that's not her character. Not her style." And the biggest complaint they had fter ME3 w/Ashley was that they didn't get to Talk to her enough. Of all things. They aren't just drooling over boobies. The y liked Her. As she was.

I think that's pretty damn cool. And it's kinda cute, too.

I went w/out flirting the whole game for him. It was just..omg. I never realized how hard it was for me Not to flirt. Everytime that heart icon showed up I was like, "Must. Resist. Must..!" Lol.

I kept writing a reply, but it got to long and ranty for my tastes (and that takes a lot because I'm always for a good rant lol). It's kind of silly to assume that the addition of romances is somewhat resource draining, because it'd still be there in the form of dialogue either for a party member or a side quest.

There are more romances that's for sure, but what drains resources are the cinematics as a whole, they're used for just about every conversation. I'm not complaining mind you, I love the cutscenes and everything that goes into them, I'm just saying if anything takes away from the plot it's cinematics and even then it's stretching it because they add some thematic oomf to scenes like they did during the Battle of Denerim.

Idk, they need to fix the three things in DA2 that made everyone so angry and they'll be fine.

Yeah lol I didn't even feel like doing that though, because really as you said what's the point? When the guy who normally makes the most sense is calling it a virtual escort service I gotta just leave it alone lol.

It really ticked me off though that you're suddenly one of the weirdos because you enjoy the romances. I ask as much about the non-romanceable characters as I do the romanceable ones so I now suddenly just want the game solely about the romance? Uh no.

Okay I checked the thread out. The usual DA2 bashing ("the game was sh!t but ofc the romance lovers still loved it, what losers, haha") ... plus the implication that romance lovers are brainless twits who button mash and would buy a sh!te game just because it has ooey gooey romance in it. I mean as if I would buy a Fenris romance-focused DLC where it's nothing but Hawke and Fenris going on a cute date together and doing cute date thins.

I mean really I would not waste my money on that.

LOL I'm just generalizing since on the same day they had those LOVELY female protagonist and sexism threads also going after DG's GDC talk. But, with the romances, who knows what it is! I know that there are guys who also enjoy them as much as the girls (and hate them as much, in some cases), so I don't mean to stereotype and suggest otherwise. But I'm willing to bet a part of the romance backlash is the girl-bashing thing we also get as cullen fans, since of course girls only game for the romance! They're not "core" gamers.

Exactly, Danny. No one should have to feel bad about liking any aspect of the game.

What's funny is, watching that first video on videogame tropes by Anita Sarkeesian, it's about the overuse of the damsel in distress trope in videogames. So... in some sense, all videogames have had romances, they just didn't get as much on-screen time.
