Well, I do intend to try out the other romances... Or at least experience them via YouTube if Cullen (or whatever companion) really grabs hold my attention, lol.

Admittedly, I don't expect Cullen's romance or story arc to be as in depth as some of the stuff we've come up with in here, simply because the game is about more than just one companion. Also, as much as I'd love for Cullen's inclusion to pack as much punch as Alistair's did for me, I'm doubting that he'll surpass or even come close to Alistair simply because the DA team are doing things differently now, and although they're bringing back investigative conversations, they've not spent 6 years making it like DA:O and they seem to put slightly less emphasis on the companions now that the protagonist is voiced and has a personality of his/her own.

There's also the "dominant" relationships, you know? I'm not saying any are inherently better than another, but due to their non-romantic connection to the story they are....at the forefront? Romancing Morrigan and Alistair makes the Landsmeet and Dark Ritual much more emotional, same with romancing Anders or Isabela (though she is a little more meh).

I mean Dorian might be the "main guy" in the story, whereas Cullen (who is still important might be the "optional" companion like Fenris, Isabela and Sebastian is).

Lol I was just kidding, though that gif is the best thing I've ever seen.

Would he be your "canon" import though?

If his story was crap? Probably not. Any previous games that I import are done with a very specific method that kinda only makes sense in my own head. Like for Origins, if I'm importing a mage playthrough, I wont make Hawke a mage, and vise versa. It goes into a lot more detail than that, but I'm lazy and don't want to explain my madness right now.

As for a sh*tty Cullen romance, I wouldn't be able to import it into the next game because I want the previous game's story/import to be very meaningful on the current game I am playing. Same reason I wont romance Merril, I really dislike her character and romance. I probably wouldn't even be able to finish that playthrough tbh.

Danny: I'd like Cullen to be a plot heavy romance option, but I'm expecting it'll be Cassandra (if she's a companion/LI) and one of the other companions not involved with the mage/Templar issue but central to one of the other themes/plots running through the game (like Isabela was to the Qunari threat in DA2).

So yeah, I guess he'd be what you referred to as one of the "dormant" love interests. So far I seem to have picked both the plot heavy companions from both games as love interest (Alistair and Anders), but I doubt I'll be as lucky this time.

... That being said, this time all the companions could be plot heavy in some way (even the non-romanceable ones) since it sounds like the new "big bad" threatens the whole world and would spread quicker than the blight since it's Fade based (if the survey leak is correct).

Merrill ninjamanced me once when I was playing a jerk aggressive pro-Templar troll Hawke. The aim was to be horrible to everyone (so I could get all the harsher achievements). I was doing really well and really offended Merrill, then the next thing I know she's shown up at Hawke's mansion, started arguing with Hawke and then pounced on her!

... Figured I might as well romance her after that, since I'd never tried it before. She gets post-coital cuddles with Hawke, Anders didn't!

Well what if it isn't sh!te but it doesn't click with you the way another romance does?

An example would be....well let's say Fenris, he's awesome and you've been waiting for over a year for his romance to come to fruition. You get the game and throughout the game he's just as you imagined, but BOOM Cullen appears and (in this example you haven't been waiting for Cullen) he just clicks for you. There is something you can't explain, but you love him. Fenris isn't bad or mediocre, but Cullen clicks. Are you more likely to still go with Fenris or Cullen?

I can relate to this actually pretty easily, as I had actually been waiting for Fenris throughout the entire wait for DA2 to come out, and ended up really clicking with Anders. What I did was stick with my Fenris romance for that first playthrough, then the next one is was Anders all the way. Ever since, my Hawke's almost always romance him (the exception being the first and the one Sebastian playthrough)

So yea, if Cullen is a romance, then another companion comes along and steals my heart, I will probably do the same thing and stick with Cullen just for the sake of actually romancing him, then go for the next guy on the next character. That way I also get a feel for that new companion that I want to romance, and what type of PC would be interesting to pair him w/.

Thinking about it, I wonder if this time our protagonist/Inquisitor will be tasked with a list of companions to recruit to the cause, like how Shepard had to in ME2? Think about it, this time our job is to gain power through different techniques, so I could imagine the Divine/Cassandra/whoever is in charge handing us this list of useful/influential people and telling us to seek out "the disgraced Templar, the rogue vigilante, the head strong Tervinter magister, the Iron Bull" and so on, instead of them finding us and randomly tagging along.

... Omg, it's gonna be like The Breakfast Club all over again!

I'm hoping they're all plot heavy as well, and please don't take what I said as Cassandra being more important than Cullen because that's not what I meant, this is more of a thought experiment than anything :D

I imagine at least one won't be though. I REALLY want them all to, but someone is gonna get the short end of the stick and I hope it's not Cullen (even more so than Cassandra to be honest).

It'll be interesting to see who the plot heavy male companion will be though.

So who are you going to import?

1. Cullen has been anticipated/wanted for A LOT longer than Cassandra ever has, so it'd only be fair for the fans who've been waiting longer to get him.

2. I'd hate to come in here and see all of you guys sad/dissapointed :(

3. I LOVE Cassandra, but my attachement to her is partly due to me thinking that she's gonna be REALLY plot heavy like Morrigan and Isabela were.

I've never seen that movie, I hear it's good though.

I got that same feeling from the way Sera and the Iron Bull were described. They're both leaders of a thieves guild/mercenary company and if we're gathering allies (either in the large army form or the single person way) than we'll probably recruit them and their specific organizations.

It'd be cool to look for a cool group of allies, but I dunno how that'd fit with investigation kind of plot. Unless.....

OMG what if part way through the game the veil tears and we have to gather allies in order to march into the Fade and shut it from the other side!

Danny: Ah, I see! Well, that's sweet of you to care about our feelings!

I would imagine that Cassandra would definitely be the plot heavy companion, I'd even go as far to say that it's practically foreshadowed. The only thing that puts me in at 96% sure that she'll be in a companion role (rather than 100%) is that companion armour example at PAX last year, it just seems like a massive spoiler even if she is an obvious choice.

Danny: If we look at the companions mentioned in the survey companion description (plus Cullen, Cassandra and the old Grey Warden dude) you can instantly see that all are in a position of power (either via their descriptions, or what we know of them already). I can't speak for the rest of the pictures shown, since they are complete unknowns, but it certainly looks like the caliber of people we'd have in our group can be of use politically.

The only odd one out is Cole, but he'd be our wild card and can pretty much sneak into anywhere to find out information, so although he holds no political power, he's like the ultimate spy/information broker!

I'm not sure yet one which playthrough I want to import. I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up doing the one where Alistair is King, and the Warden is his wife. And the archer Hawke/Anders pairing where she sided w/ the mages. I am becoming pretty fond of my current playthrough w/ a Dalish Warden w/ Alistair in the wardens, and my male Hawke who is going to sleep w/ Isabela for fun, but might not have any serious relationships beyond casual encounters. I'm noticing a pattern w/ all my male PCs....they're all total sl*tbags

D'aw, thanks :kissing:. Certianly I am not looking forward to the state of this thread, and the Cullen fanbase in general, if Cullen isn't granted to us.... :crying:

As for Cassandra, I don't have a major opinion either way, right now I'm ambivalent on her character. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her, but I'm not going be greatly disappointed either if she doesn't turn out to be a companion.

Aaaand now I've just had this awesome image in my head of Cole coming up to our protagonist in camp or where ever and saying:

Cole: "That ex-Templar, Ser Cullen. He's soft on you, I watched him in prayer last night... it appears that he has sinful thoughts about your "soft pert bosoms."

Cole: "I overheard Sera and Cassandra gossiping about you... Is it possible for a man to have "buns of steal"?"

The possibilities are endless with a ghostly character like Cole! He used to spy on people when he was in the tower, and during Evangeline 'n' co's travels in the Asunder book, so no doubt he'd still do it in DA3.

I think it would be rather sweet if that's how we found out some of the shy or seemingly stone faced individuals had a soft spot for the Inquisitor.

I'd be dissapointed if she wasn't there, but not killed. Like Lola said of any companions she's the most likely, but it's not a guarantee. I can live through the pain though if you all are happy and here to comfort my broken heart :crying:

My male Hawke shagged Isabela too, then went for the full romance with Anders. I was doing my canon "Hawke befriends all the things" import, and I wanted to make sure that she'd come back after the Qunari battle.

It actually worked out pretty well with my Hawke's personality too, so it was win-win all round!
