So, back to Cullen. How do you all think his early life went? Like, what are your own interpretations of his joining the Templars, and meeting Amell/Surana?

I love this idea!! That was something I loved in both final battles, that everyone was there to help. Altho... am I the only one for whom Merrill just never showed up at the end?? I've never looked into why that was...MissRedZelda wrote...
Maybe I'd like them to come back as cameos, or maybe with Hawke (and the Warden) to join the DA3 PC in the final battle. Wouldn't that be awesome?
Anyway, I've said it before, but now that I've read this fic, it dominates my headcanon for young Cullen. Fledglings by CJK I tend to equate "no last name" with Chantry orphan, so I imagine him being part of the Chantry system for the majority of his life. Never really thought about when he met Amell/Surana, since honestly, that pairing doesn't really interest me so much... (I know, blasphemy!)So, back to Cullen. I think the problem with bringing them back at NPCs is that they'll never be your Warden/Hawke. Unless one of the things they bring over from a saved game is the personality of Hawke, it's just never going to sound like her, you know? And for the Warden they'd have to suddenly give them a voice which would, again, go against how people saw them when they played Origins.
As much as I love my Warden and Hawke....I'm not sure it would be possible to include them in a realistic way.

For dramatic purposes I'm hoping he was either orphaned or abandoned on the Chantry steps as a baby. I guess I really like the idea of him never having experienced the stability of a family life or affection from a parent or lover (either because he's a virgin or because he's never had anything more than meaningless trysts.) That way, his seemingly extreme devotion to the Order and the rules he follows so feverishly could partly be cause by the need to feel needed (aside from the Broken Circle events.) From a romantic story arc point of view that scenario could be quite touching if the new protagonist is the first woman to show genuine affection and love towards him (the Warden doesn't count since there was no indication in-game that the Amell/Cullen thing was anything more than unrequited love on Cullen's side.)

I could see Hawke showing up in a cameo, less so the Warden for the reasons you've mentioned -- primarily, I think due to the new models and the lack of voice, he/she would never be "your" Warden. With Hawke, if it's just a cameo, I think it would be easy for her to say something generic that doesn't preclude a player's individual personality choices. So long as they use the same voice actors, I think they could accomplish "close enough."Staarbux wrote...

All that said... didn't I read/hear somewhere a suggestion from the devs that both might make a brief appearance in DA3? I can't immediately recall right now, but wasn't there discussion about how you might even be able to choose a voice for a Warden cameo...?
Now, for me, I'd rather they spend those efforts elsewhere. Cameos are nice, but not if they take significant resources away from the new stuff. Of course... Cullen is exempt from this... I'll take him in cameo form if I can't have him as a companion.

Call me sadistic but..... wouldn't it be delicious if our Warden and Hawke made thier cameos as corpses? Hawke, having had a VA, could have one last gasping line to warn the new protagonist of danger and then... "gasp, gag, gurgle...ugh!".

I always saw Cullen as either an orphan, or sent to the Chantry by his family for one reason or another because his family was abusive or something. He went through training and such, and then met Amell/Surana when he was stationed at the Circle Tower or something. As for one-sided, in my headcannon, they had a thing going on. In a way, he was her first love (and yes, I installed that mod that lets them kiss. I thought it was a nice touch that Bioware seriously missed out on). I'm debating whether I should have it that they did sleep together once, not long before she was forced to leave. At the moment, they've never gone further than make out sessions late at night in dark corners.
Lordy, I seriously hope we don't get another ME3 ending in DA3. I'm SERIOUSLY craving a happy ending choice right now. Bittersweet endings are all well and good, but there are times when you just want your characters to live happily ever after when it's all over. They deserve it after all the crap they went through to save the world/universe/whatever, for Andraste's sake! Sigh...

Ah I dunno, it just seems really unfair that he still probably won't get a chance as a companion/LI in DA3... It sounds stupid but the possibility of some completely random character from a movie becoming a companion instead of Cullen really irritates me. I know it's all just hearsay and hypotheticals at the moment but we've been waiting to get to know Cullen for years now only for them to just tease us with him. Why bother to develop his character in DA2 if they're only going to shaft him. I mean, you can't have a game about the Templar/Mage rebellion without a Templar companion, especially the Templar who lived through the horrors of both games. Hell, I'm not far off giving up on Bioware altogether, so I'm pinning my hopes on DA3 to turn things around.

*Sigh* I'm having another crisis of faith at the moment, what with the new Mage healer guy from Dawn of the Seeker looking to be a high possibility as a companion/love interest along with Cassandra as well it's looking to me that it's becoming more and more unlikely that we will get Cullen as anything more than an NPC.

Heaven knows what they've got brewing up in the Bio-tower. I'm all gung ho for Cullen but I'm trying to coax myself to be open to anything. Maybe they'll blow us away with a new character so much that it'll be ok without him.
MissRedZelda - What do you mean by this? "Bioware = the ultimate trolls." Someone needs to tell me what a troll is! lol

@meanie -- d'oh, that would be hilarious if they showed up as corpses. How excellently morbid. I can't help but imagine your PC coming across them and seeing words carved on the cave wall. "the holy grail is in the castle of aaaarrgh..." "if they were dying they wouldn't bother to carve 'aaaaargh'..."

But seriously. Cullen as a LI, and the choice of the Hollywood sappy ending, please. I need something after my ME3 heartbreak.

I know, I'm just worrying lol. I wish they'd hurry up and release some more concept art or something. As for that ME3 ending I know exactly what you mean and I'm worried that Gaider is going to be taking a leaf out their book, if he's recent tweets are anything to go by it's looking increasingly likely.

R2 and Lola- I just thought it would be hilarious given all of the serious venom people seem to have re: where's the Warden, etc. Here's your Warden punk! And he's not voiced... at all. And Hawke too. Didn't DG say "Alistair never loved you"? That can be what Hawke scrawls in blood on the wall. Hahaha!

meanieweenie: I think I'll be pissed off even if this new guy is amazing. I guess all the fanfics and ideas we've had for Cullen's romance and story arc have convinced me that he absolutely needs to be a companion/LI, I just wish Gaider and the Dev's would read the concepts we have in here because maybe they'd realise just how much you can potentially do with his character. Sure this Gaylan Mage guy is a blank page that you can do anything with BUT Cullen's background is too colourful to ignore, DG likes drama and Cullen has it by the bucket load!
Hee hee, down girl! Don't forget there will be a whole slew of companions, most of which will undoubtedly be new. So I don't know that these rumors necessarily mean anything about Cullen one way or the other. Have faith young padawan! I wouldn't get down until there's actually something to be down about. We've still got a looong road ahead of us...
Of course, when I think realistically about his chances of being the one or two companions that carry over from a previous game, I honestly don't think the odds are that high. But, I will remain hopeful and would love to be pleasantly surprised.
