I agree. Even when Cullen was young and nervous, he was always serious and focused on his perceived duty. I believe he also has a very understated sense of humor. The trait I think of most in regards to Cullen is: earnest.

God, don't I know it. At least in my canon import, Alistair is dead, so he is spared the indignity of the DA2 face. Zev, however, is alive and well, though I missed his cameo. But I've seen enough videos and screenshots from DA2, and yeah, the developers decided to take the two male love interests from origins and beat them down with an ugly bat, as punishment for romancing them.

Cullen did end up lucking out more than most in the looks department, though I wished they had left him ginger. Rusty hair was part of his creepy charm in Origins, and he did not look so terrible then. Or, at the very least, made him stawberry blond with the emphasis on the strawberry.

If they do bring him back in the future, I hope they go back with the ginger touch. It suits him.

And on another thought, its a shame they were unable to keep Greg Ellis' as VA for Anders in DA2. Because everytime I played Awakening, I always thought how awesome it would have been to encounter Cullen at some point, with Anders in the party, and get a very interesting conversation between two polar opposite characters voiced by the same VA. That would have just been, epic, especially if it turned into an arguement.

because even though Anders and Cullen are voiced by the same VA, Ellis does a wonderful job in voicing two very seperate personalities. Thus, i would, just by the way each character is voiced, be able to tell who is speaking to who. When he VO's Cullen, there's a definite reluctactant, nervous, creepy edge to it. When he VO's Anders, his intonation and inflection is definitely more smooth, devil may care, with a playfully sarcastic edge to it.

If nothing else, it would have made for some hysterical potential in the scene where you try to shop Anders to Cullen, and Anders butts in.

It would be like..."Wait....why are you betraying me...to me?":wizard:

Really? It looked quite rusty-reddish to me. But it could be that hair morph, plus the ambient lighting in the mage tower, that gave it a very reddish cast. Even if that was the case, they should stick with it. or at least strawberry blonde. Redheaded male NPCs of signifigance are so lacking. its discrimination.

Wow, that's so weird, because it really is so reddish. But, the lighting  in game wreaks such havoc on the colors and such. For example, don't recall where I saw it, but if you mod out a companion to be DA2 Alistair he looks much much better in the full sunlight.

Luckily DA2!Cullen seems to look beautiful in any light. [obligatory disclaimer on the cullen pages!]

Absolutely. He was very cute in DA:O, but he really crossed into wowtastic in DA2.

Edited to add: his personality, confidence and maturity were my fav parts of DA2 Cullen. <3

Cullen wouldn't know what to do with a sunny day if you slathered him in SPF45 and turned him loose on Laguna Beach.

Cullen doesn't seem to know how to seek his own happiness.That is a huge component of why I love him. In DA2, as Knight Captain, he had every opportunity to set himself up to be happy. Most Templars can't find wives, but I'm pretty sure that there'd be some lonely noblewoman in Kirkwall who would want to attatch herself to the second-in-command of the Templars who just happens to look like that.

Edit: Argh! Crosspost with Gal's link, that perfectly illustrates my point but makes it all sad. And yes, this is pretty much how I think Cullen thinks about his own happiness. :_;

But, but...I want to fix him.  I want him to be happy. Aren't there any other revisionists here who want a (somewhat) happily-ever-after for dear Cullen, even though you can't get it in canon?

EDIT: I see you mention a happy ending for Cullen too, Gala. That makes me feel better, because it's been my impression that a few people that have posted here or on the old board either don't want it, or would just find it impossible to believe of his character. That makes me sad. In fiction, happiness is possible for anyone, just as long as you have skilled writers willing to make it happen.

 I think Cullen is closer to being able to have a happy ending at the end of Act 3 than he is in Act 1.  He's starting to question and now the Templars are in turmoil there are lots of possibilities.  I'm still holding vague hopes of seeing it happen in a future game.

How can Bioware not want to bring a smile to that face?
