9:37: Hawke leads the push to stop the mages and templars as they clash in Kirkwall. The city's First Enchanter Orsino and Knight-Commander Meredith are both killed.
9:38: Unrest brews in Orlais as Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons stirs dissent against reigning Empress Celene I.
9:40: An apparent cure for Tranquility is discovered in Adamant Fortress at the Abyssal Reach.
9:40: Empress Celene is called out of Val Royeaux after news of an elven rebellion in Halamshiral. The move is thought to have been orchestrated by Gaspard. Celene's absence fuels rumors of her death or capture.
9:40: Anticipating unrest, the Sun Gates to Val Royeaux are ordered closed for the first time since dragons attacked the city in 9:22 Dragon.
9:40: A violent uprising at the White Spire- a Circle Tower in Val Royeaux-- leaves many senior mages dead. The uprising is apparently supported by the Divine through her agents, including the bard Leliana.
9:40: Following the conflict at the White Spire, Lord Seeker Lambert cancels the Nevarran Accord, severing ties between the Seekers and the Chantry. Allegiances between Seekers and Templars are split. Some still support the Divine.
9:40: Lord Seeker Lambert declares the Circle of Magi no more. The future of mages in Thedas is uncertain.
9:40: Lord Seeker Lambert goes missing and is presumed dead.
9:40: Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast, acting under authority of the Divine, arrives in Kirkwall and interrogates Varric Tethras about Hawke.
Chantry/Templar/Seeker hierachy:
Divine: The Divine is the revered head of the Chantry, which she oversees from her sunburst throne at the Grand Cathedral in Val Royeaux. She is traditionally elected for life by the College of Clerics. The first Divine took the throne at the start of the Divine age, shortly after founding the Chantry.
Grand Clerics: Grand Clerics are powerful representatives of the Divine in regional matters. Each Grand Cleric oversees multiple temples in a region or city, and enjoys the power and influence reserved for their jurisdiction's highest nobility. Together they make up the College of Clerics.
Mothers: Mothers are priests who tend to a particular Chantry. The senior priest at the temple is known as a revered mother. Mothers lead recitations of the Chant, as well as the preaching and practice of Andraste's teachings.
Brothers and sisters: Under Chantry mothers come the rank-and-file members who devote their lives to the Chantry. Brothers and sisters may come from all walks of life, be they nobles, orphans, or even criminals. They are given an education based on the virtues of the Chantry and occupy a variety of roles. Clerics may be Chantry academics who pursue and preserve its knowledge. A senior Cleric, called an elder, typically maintains a chantry's archives.
Chanters: Chanters are among the most devout members of the Chantry. They take strict oaths that include helping others above themselves and never uttering a word that is not from the Chant. Chanters are often penitent sinners looking for atonement.
Templar Order: The Templars are a proud and disciplined order of mostly human, mostly male warriors. Historically they are the policing arm of the Chantry. The primary focus of the templars is the restrict the use of magic. Templar practices have proven controversial, notably the use of highly addictive lyrium to resist magic. The order has been accused of exploiting the addictions of its members, forcing them to stay with the promise of a steady supply of the rare and powerful mineral.
Seekers of Truth: The other arm of Andrastian justice is far smaller and more secretive. The Seekers are the Divine's investigators-- highly skilled agents that root out hidden threats to the Chantry and its interests. While Seeker leadership tends to run parallel to the templars, senior Seekers ultimately outrank any templar. Traditionally the Seekers answered directly to the Divine. However, like templars, many Seekers now reject the authority of the Divine.

9:40 was a busy year...or is a busy year. Isn't that when we're supposed to be dropping in?

Sooo, the Divine supported the mage uprising at white spire. That's unexpected.

You haven't read the Asunder novel?
I dunno when we're supposed to pick up from, it's not been confirmed yet, but I reckon it'll be some time around 9:40... or a year or two after maybe.

Really? So we'd be playing straight after DA2, before the mage rebellion goes into full swing? That seems odd, especially since apparently they won't be doing the whole time passing over years thing.

I thought it was hinted that it was a few months after the Cass/Varric interrogation....or maybe I'm thinking of the space between ME2 and 3. For some reason 3-6 months comes to mind

Yeah 9:40 after Cassandra's interrogation would make sense, perhaps after Leliana tells her that "it's in the Makers hands now" she goes off regardless and puts into action plan B, which is where our new protagonist comes into play.

I also recall very little time passing between DA2 and 3. It would makes sense to me since blowing up a Chantry would cause a huge ripple effect if a rebellion was brewing anyway. I imagine there's a whole lot going down.littlenikki wrote...

LOLA, YOU ROCK!! Ah, how awesome is that! Put a nail in that coffin. ALL of Asunder took place in 9:40! W000t! So much for all those confusing "a year ago" references to what happaned in Kirkwall that made no sense.LolaLei wrote...
Ok, R2. Here's what it says from the timeline:
<snip>
9:40: Anticipating unrest, the Sun Gates to Val Royeaux are ordered closed for the first time since dragons attacked the city in 9:22 Dragon.

Maker bless you, Ben Gelinas!!
Wow, "mostly human." Well, there you go!!Chantry/Templar/Seeker hierachy:

Bah, still doesn't tell us what a Lord Seeker vs. High Seeker is. "basically, seekers are kinda sorta mostly higher ranking than templars."Seekers of Truth: The other arm of Andrastian justice is far smaller and more secretive. The Seekers are the Divine's investigators-- highly skilled agents that root out hidden threats to the Chantry and its interests. The only thing I've heard them say is that DA3 takes place after Asunder, which very clearly ends in 9:40. Plus, DA2 technically takes place in 9:40 as well, since it's Cassandra and Varric's story, and the rest is all flashbacks ending in 9:37. (and Varric references the break of the templars from the Chantry, so we know it must take place after Asunder)LolaLei wrote...

yeah, makes sense. Sounds like Vol 2's timeline will pick up in 9:40... ideally with the first events of DA3!!!LolaLei wrote...
You're welcome R2! I reckon they're saving all the Seeker details until after DA3, no doubt more info will appear in the 2nd lore book.
I think this calls for a happy dance.
