Well, I agree with all of you that it can certainly be avoided, and it would be a step back in his characterization. Still, he is adamant about mages not being "like you and me" and that they cannot be trusted.

It's like danny boy said about Isabella, of course there's more to the characters, but IF Cullen turn out to be a broody warrior with a strong anti-mage agenda it would be hard not seeing the resemblance. I hope they don't write him that way for this reason, but I was wondering if that would wreck the character for you guys.

If there would be a self-serving, frosty witch or a promiscuous pirate in the game they would battle with the same problem, even though the characters would be very different when you look closer.

They could do great things with him, I'm sure. I like the play on duty that r2 suggested, but I must admit that I hate romances that are difficult for internal reasons. If a guy ever touches on "its not you, its me", then I'll just agree with him and be on my merry way. I liked what they did with Alistair, where the relationship was easy and functional and sweet until the outside world tear you apart.

I dunno if it would wreck his character for me or not really, since we don't really know all that much about him.

If you strip away all the head canon and fanfic, all we really know is that he was tortured by blood mages in DA:O, he may or may not have had a crush on a female Warden (depending on which origin you picked), and he was struggling with his opinions on Meredith and the Templar Order in DA2 after being made Knight Captain, which subsequently led him to side with Hawke and kill his superior. Other than that the guy is a complete mystery. Soooo, I guess it just depends on the direction the DA team wanna take his character.

If he turned out to be a complete douche bag then I'd totally murder knife him.

I would be disappointed if they turned him into a hate spouting, anti-mage boor, as he's often painted because of the "not like you and me" comment. I think he will always have trust issues with mages because of their power, which is why I don't see he him as anti-mage so much as pro-Circle. Even at the end of DA2, I think if you were to ask him, he would still be an avid believer that mages should be in the Circle for everyone's benefit. When he overthrows Meredith, it's because she's not following the core tenets of the Order, an Order he believes in fervently. That's another direction I'd like to see for him in DA3, exploring what happens to him if those tenets suddenly change after the breaking of the Accord. Drinking away his sorrows, in prison for insubordination or abdication of duty, suffering in silence as the K-C of Kirkwall. Who knows.

LOL As you say. Plus there are also so many inconsistencies in his writing in DA2, that he could turn out to be a total d!ckhead. But, given the "good guy" stamp he's been given by DG, I'm expecting more "moderate" templar coming at us. And, if he does become eeevvvviiillll, I just hope there's a good story behind it.

Yeah, I've always wondered if maybe originally some of those scenes were supposed to happen earlier in the game, since his attitude tends to switch and change in a way that doesn't always seem consistent with the inner dilemma he's having regarding Meredith/Templar Order situation.

Y'know, if Cullen isn't a companion and that outfit in the survey leak turns out to just be the outfit he wears during his cameo or whatever, at least it'll be nice to see him wearing something other than full Templar uniform.

And, naturally, I google it just to find this...

http://vieralynn.tum...-the-bsn-cullen

I must say, I like the way you roll in here.

LMAO! Oh, he can definitely wear that into battle! :lol::lol:

Well, then I would join your cause for sure. :D On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I already have.

I actually feel that we know him quite well, for such a small role he is really developed and, as you said earlier, complex. He's faced quite a lot in DA:O, but in DA 2 he seems harmonic rather than tormented. He is principled to a fault and would give his life and his career for what he feels is right. It almost feels like we've gotten to watch him grow up, which is kinda neat. He could be a douche, but I'm guessing if they want to make him more extreme for dramatic purposes then they'll make him tormented and broken.

I think, and hope, that they won't though. He was a counterweight to Meredith, showing that you can experience horrible things and not let it break you, and I hope that was a conscious choice, and one that will carry over.

Am I the only one that wants to see Cullen look a bit rough and tumbled this next go round? Maybe a little scruffy and sweaty from all that hiding out and fighting... a half crazed look in his eye.... wait, what were you guys talking about? Oh yes, evil red bowler hat Cullen. That's it.

LOL That would be an interesting contrast to "buttoned down" Cullen.

Right? You can still file taxes together, but he's going to sign it with the blood of his enemies. lol

I blame this fic: http://www.fanfictio...8490562/1/Trust

Bwahaha! Instead of blood magic, it's ... wait for it... blood taxes! Somehow, that fits!

Tee hee hee... I just finally got to writing  the chapter where that scene goes. Oh yeah! I would love to commission someone to draw a cover for the story, featuring long-haired, renegade!Cullen. Mmmmm... I think it would be a challenge to  make him look like Cullen without his signature hair, tho.

I would love to see a rough, renegade Cullen, purely for contrast purposes !

Read the fic. That's one hot hair cut, just the thing to read over breakfast! I am now imagining Ser Cullen with longer curls and shaggy beard, mmmm ...!

I found a picture once drawn by some random artist and the character looked just like Cullen if he had long hair and a bigger beard. Surprisingly it looked pretty hot, even though it wasn't supposed to be him. I'll see if I can find it.

The nose is slightly different, but it looks enough like him for us to pretend that it's Cullen looking all weathered and manly!
