I would like to know where this legion of Cullen fangirls - causing everyone so much vitriol towards anyone who dares to mention his name - is coming from.

Re-reading some of the DA3 forums posts early on from DG made me think again about something. His posts invariably were about the fans as well, as opposed to the character, until of course, he started defending us vociferously as the red-headed stepchildren we were (are?) treated as. This makes me worry again, though, that his first thought was that the fans will respond with pitchforks to what they've done with Cullen in DA3. *gulp* I mean, how bad could it really be...?

Speaking of which, it makes me wonder if his attitude in DA2 is all part of his on-going recovery that will perhaps improve in DA3.

Not yet, I don't think.

That's strange. Your GamerMD buddy on that podcast is basically the only person I've heard it from. It's funny too because I see a lot of Youtube videos taking what she said as fact when it's still rumor at this point. She did say she personally talked with him so I'm willing to believe her.
With that being said, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Inon Zur is a very capable composer and one of the better ones in the industry. However, I do not think Zur's music in DA is up to his usual quality. They have some nice tracks in both games but overall, it's very forgetful. It's certainly not on the level of Mass Effect's masterpiece soundtracks.
I might be in the minority but I feel incredible music is essential in an RPG based around characters/story. Those emotional or personal moments need to make you feel something and music is a great way to do it. Some of the more memorable moments in gaming for me I can always remember an epic song in the background. I wonder who they contracted if it's not Zur?
I still do not understand why Zur refused this type of style in Dragon Age. It's some of his best work and I think it fits the universe perfectly.

Totally, and ME is the prime example. Give ME a mediocre soundtrack the way DA had, and suddenly the trilogy is maybe a 7/10 or 8/10 instead of a 10/10 (for me).

i don't mean just that one post I quoted yesterday, but the aggregate which focused on the fans in general. Suggesting to me he's expecting backlash from the fans. This could be because he thought (thinks?) we're crazy aggro, or because what's in store for Cullen could be ... provoking. Dunno just a thought I had today.LolaLei wrote...

Yeah, I think MD is the only one who's heard it from the guy. That being said, it depends on when they do the musical score for the game, it could just be that they haven't contacting him yet because they aren't at a point where the music is needed. Perhaps they want the game itself ready first so that Ion can take a look and make the music he feels goes with each area etc.

Good point. Hm, I guess maybe something horrible might have happened/will happen to him... perhaps we should be prepared for an Anders style surprise?
Or maybe he'll only be a cameo/npc and he's expecting us to flip our sh!t?

I have my mindset ready to accept some sort of backlash.... someone somewhere is bound to have something negative to say. Then it'll be like one of those accidental high school parties where you tell 2 friends to come by because your parents are out of town, next thing you know there are 152 people trashing your house and doing donuts on the front lawn. (ya, that really happened)R2s Muse wrote...

Lola's got a point though - we've come up with so many random scenarios for Cullen's roll / story / background that I think our little microcosm here will be able to roll with anything. Maybe we'll be thrilled, maybe disappointed. But I don't see the general bulk of us going balls out mad and tossing e!Molotov cocktails.

Where you here when DG visited the thread and started being nice to us? Well prior to that he and Upsettingshorts were being kinda cruel about us in some other thread that had turned into a typical Cullen flame thread. Funnily enough, the thread itself wasn't even one that we had started lol.

Aggressive Hawke is hilarious!
I love my sarcastic Hawke--Male Hawke, mind you.
Here are some of my favorite lines/moments:
Enemies Among Us:Macha: You hear dark rumors about the templars and Knight-Commander Meredith. And now my brother is gone.Hawke: So you think the templars... what? Killed and ate your brother?
Act of Mercy:Grace: Will you buy us time to flee Kirkwall?Hawke: Oh, just a little murder? Is that it? Uh, no.
The First Sacrifice:Hawke: If they're not dead, watch out for a bunch of boneless women flopping on the streets.
Repentance:Hawke: At the Blooming Rose, fifty silver's standard for a ****.
When female Hawke is being sarcastic, her jokes--to me, run flat. What I mean is that she lacks the "punch" to the sarcastic lines which, I felt the voice actor for male Hawke was successful at having. See my full comment at social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/6017887/21
Also, check out on youtube, Dragon Age 2 - Sarcasm Dialogue. There are four parts. They don't include all of my favorite lines, but they have a lot of funny moments.
I still have yet to try all of the dialogue options. I laugh so hard just thinking about some of the comments he makes.

Yes I did! It's only a netbook instead of a laptop but it does internet and I can write so I'm not gonna complain!
Yes! I was here! I think. I was here for a time when DG said that he didn't get why so many people were saying they're sick of hearing about Cullen when WE say less about him than his haters do. And he said something like he could hardly pick a nicer group of fans to pander to. If he was going to pander to any one fan group that is...

Yeah, my canon Hawke is a sarcastic male mage... kinda reminds me of Awakening Anders in a lot of ways, actually. He also is in a romance with Anders, which just felt right to me since I've head canoned that my Hawke reminds Anders of himself before he joined with Justice, so it helps keep him sane and "in touch" with himself.

If anything, I think the sheer variety of everyone's CullenCanon is daunting to the devs. They KNOW they aren't going to please everyone so they're just going to do what they feel is best. It's a shame they even have to fear fan reaction. I'd like to think that we'd all keep our sh!t but that's naive. The only way I see US, this group here, having a major meltdown is if they do a huge disservice to Cullen in a way that villifies him and proves all of his haters right. Or something... I know we'd do our best to be civil, but really the only way I think we'd all have a problem is if it turns out he's gone "MAGES ARE EVIL!!!" nutso or that he was abusing mages or his epilogue is "canon". Basically if they make him out to be the awful guy so many want to believe he is, then I might lose my ****! But I'll do it in my lj or tumblr or blog. I won't blast the devs directly. People who feel they're entitled to do that sicken me. I'd rather he be done right and live up to the potential we've seen him to have... or not at all. Thank you very much. Not sure I could stand it if the haters got fanservice for their hate of him after we tried so hard to honestly answer them about why he's not what they think when all they've done is blindly hate him. If this happens, they'll rub it in our faces - you know they will. I might not be able to handle being on the boards anymore...
Yeah I said it.
Exactly.
I mean, even if they decided to kill him off I'd be alright with it IF they handled it well and it done his character justice. Of course I'd be gutted, but if it adds to the story and packs a punch and improves the gaming experience then so be it.
I think I'd be disappointed if his character felt rushed. Like, if he was a companion and he barely touched upon his previous experiences and suddenly was either perfectly fine with no issues at all, or had done a complete 180 and was running around killing mages needlessly and being a douche without any explaination as to why he'd suddenly regressed after he'd improved during his time in Kirkwall.

If they killed him off, I'd want it to be a good and noble end. Would I be sad panda? H3ll YES! But if he goes to some kind of extreme, I'd want to see that evolution. Explaaaiinn! So says the littllest Dalek. He's grown too much and is too much in the middle to be "Grrr! All mages must die!" in DA3 just to justify killing him off. Do him justice, dear writers, dagnabbit! That's all I ask. Would I like him to be an LI...? Um, YEAH! But at the very least don't destroy him like that.

There will be people coming into the thread being smug and rude because we didn't get our wish of Cullen as a companion and then directly attacking his fans because "how can you like him when he did this/that/etc, you're all a bunch of psycho fangirls". OR there will be people attacking us from all corners because "the devs pandered to the fangirls and made Cullen a companion/LI" etc.
Either way we're screwed, so let's just hope that we get him as a companion/LI so that it'll be worth the hassle lol.
