I don't think he was hostile, I think he's just tired of the fans 'assuming' too much and bugging too much. I would be too! ;)

Did I miss anything good while I was away?

Folks seem to be getting ornery on the boards... more than usual it appears. (Not here, but on a few other threads.)

Nah you didn't miss much, but I did make a wall of Cullen on page 174 lol.

Yeah DG was being a bit hostile on here yesterday, but he cheered up a bit after visiting one of the more lighthearted threads.

Egad, where did that happen?

The light hearted convo was in the Dwarven love interest thread, I can't remember which thread he was being hostile in though but he was a bit snappy with brushyourteeth on there.

Heh, seems like the natives are restless. No DA3 news and fanfiction.net is deleting stories. Dogs and cats are living together... mass hysteria! ;)

Heh, they're enforcing their ratings rules for the first time in ten years. With mass deletions without warning. It's apparently a PR nightmare, with a lot of bad feelings and unsubstantiated rumors, probably also fueled by their massive changes to the structure of the site as well.

At least it finally explains to me how I could never reconcile their ratings descriptions with what *I* was reading. Apparently we're supposed to think of it as a teen site, for 16 and younger.

Aw I can't see the link on my phone!

meanieweenie: You're welcome, I figure it's safe posting my findings in here. If I posted them elsewhere on the forum people would start attacking DG or over speculating on the smallest possible detail lol.

Aw, not snappy exactly. I made the mistake of trying to mediate and in the end I think I got branded a troublemaker. Never again.

I'm actually a David Gaider loyalist so that hurt my little cavity-free heart. Posted Image

Aw I think he was just on the defensive because he's been getting so much flack since DA2. I think the scrutiny had been taken away from the DA team for a while in anticipation of ME3 and the bad endings etc, but now the hype/fallout has subsided with Mass Effect and the public/fans are aware that DA3 is currently in production DG 'n' co are in the firing line again. I guess the pressure to deliver this time round must be immense, everyone's eyes are on them and a lot of Bioware fans are labelling DA3 as Bioware's last chance to redeem themselves or they'll give up on them completely.

... It must be really gutting for DG to listen to, especially considering Bioware were the golden child of games companies for so many years.

@brushyourteeth, "a David Gaider loyalist" what a funny term! And sad that we'd even need such a term, but I am one as well.

@LolaLei, sadly, you're probably right. *sigh* It's almost like they've created a monster by allowing so many avenues for communication and feedback from the fanbase. Although... I suppose it's really a monster created by internet 2.0.

I find Mike Laidlaw handles the criticism better than DG does, no doubt it probably upsets and offends him equally as much, but he always manages to defuse the situation whenever a fan lays into him... be it on Twitter, the forum or in real life etc by either being very poliet but to-the-point or with humour.

I wish those particular "fans" would tone it down a notch and at least give the team a chance to finish making DA3 before screaming from the roof tops that it sucks or that Bioware are dead to them or whatever. Ok, so they might hate DA2, hell I couldn't stand the game when I played it the first time... and yeah I wrote a less-than-pretty review about it, but it grew on me over time (which I plan to declare when it comes to reviewing DA3.) Regardless of how much I dislike a game I would never dream of attacking the people that made it, it's not like they purposely go out of their way to sabotage their own work.

That being said, I understand that the fans are worried about the future of Bioware and that they feel like they've "sold out" but attacking DG 'n' co won't get them what they want. Admittedly I've openly said in the past that I'd stop buying their games if they didn't fix the ME3 endings, but to be honest I massively over reacted, I'm not going to condemn a whole company due to the last 5 minutes of what was (up until that point) was a fantastic trilogy.

What's sad is that DG would probably be more open to the fans suggestions for DA3 IF he and the dev's weren't getting lynch mobbed everytime they check in on us.

You know what else really pisses me off? When people on the forum make threads saying things like "Bioware you HAVE to add *insert desire here* to DA3!", "DAVID GAIDER GIVE US BACK PLAYABLE RACE OPTIONS NAOW!!!", "I DEMAND you give my Hawke closure!!!1111ONE"

Yeah, 'cause that's REALLY gonna encourage the team to consider our ideas. It's sh!t like that which screws the rest of us over, I've seen some absolutely amazing ideas and concepts on here, ranging from quest and companion ideas, to full on environments that DG 'n' co probably won't even take into consideration or look at thanks to idiots like that putting their backs up.

... Ok, rant over LOL.

Yeah. Agree with the above. And it's a shame because I actually agree with some of those people's opinions about the games and their temper tantrums do them no justice. Anyway...

On that note, here's a new question for you ladies:

What kind of topics of conversation can you imagine Cullen having with the protagonist and his/her new companions? Aside from the obvious Mage/Templar thing.

Of course a lot of this really depends on the sort of companions we get for DAIII. Having a Seeker that really enjoys lording his/her position over Cullen would be really fun, especially as you see the inner conflict as he struggles not to smart off to his superior. Posted Image

Having a companion that openly flirts with him to make him uncomfortable (like Isabela/Carver and Morrigan/Sten) would be fun for all the obvious reasons. Poor boy.

A Qunari or Tal-Vashoth would be fun on a few different levels.
1. If it's a Qunari, this is a person with an even more strict lifestyle than a Templar. I think Cullen would be shocked at the commitment the Qun requires and put off by the idea of someone else finding him undisciplined.
2. If it's a Tal-Vashoth, this is someone who defected from their duty (possibly like Cullen) and the two may go around in circles judging the other and throwing stones into glass houses.
3. He'll either be forced to admit that the Qun isn't as barbaric as he believed and the two will become unlikely friends (like Fenris and Sebastian) or they'll hate each other forever and you may eventually have to choose sides.

That's all i can think of for now. Would love to hear what everyone else thinks. Posted Image

P.S. and totally off-topic, R2's Muse I want to formally request that you write a Sebastian fanfic. His kiss in "Knight's Bloom" was just so tantalizingly naughty. More please! Posted Image

Oooo I'd love to see his reaction to a companion or NPC flirting with him, especially a prostitute in one of the many Brothels of Orlais!

Actually, I'm hoping the Orlesian brothels will be really debauched and decadant, with red velvet drapes everywhere and ridiculously OTT decor!

Ooh, I love this. Seeing the inner workings of the templar hierarchy up close and personal would be fascinating. If it were Cassandra, I could be see her being even more zealous about her job than him... possibly giving him some perspective to lighten up? Mmmm...

Ah, a moral imperative!

Interesting! I could totally see that. I love the irony of #2. As a result of #1, I could see the latter in #3. That confronting someone who's entire life is literally defined by their duty could cause him to want to rethink his life. :P

You know I just had another thought. Imagine we had someone like Dagna as  companion. Someone who is not a mage but has a strong scholarly appreciation for magic and its study. So, someone who could engage him in that stuffy scholar's debate that he wanted to avoid without becoming embroiled in it emotionally.

Hee hee, thanks! I'll have to think about it. I tried so hard to write Seb as sympathetic in his role as "catalyst" that he sorta broke my heart  in that story. :( It would be nice to give him his day. When I wrote it I had just finished my Seb romance playthrough, so I was simultaneously in love with him and miffed by him. "You're an amazing woman, Hawke. Had we met in different times... well it's best not to think on that now." Grr..

Lol so long as Cullen doesn't join the Qun!

I would love to hear him saying something like "wow, was I as regimented as her" (referring to Cass) towards the end of the game once he'd lightened up a bit.

Thinking about it, perhaps one of the reasons why we might not get him as a companion/LI is because he could be quite a difficult character to write. Fanfics aside I have no idea what sorts of things you could have him talk about that isn't Mage/Templar related.

I honestly see another crisis of faith in his future. They won't want another Anders blah blah mages are downtrod, fight the power type of character, but I see Cullen's issue with the mage -templar thing being much more personal. What is his duty now that the Templars are split from the Chantry? If he's an intensely religious person, as I imagine he is, this uncertainty would reach all the way to the core of his character, affecting not just his job but his identity and belief system. At the end of DA2 we saw him stand up on his own and embrace his own view of what Andraste meant and what the Order stands for and boom, the rug gets pulled out from under him again.

So, I'd love to see a little of that... despondency. What do I do now? Where do I fit now?

That could actually make for some interesting companion interactions... as folks could be suggesting new lines of work for him?? LOL Prison guard? Cloistered brother? Mercenary? Seeker? Towel boy?

I'm voting for the last one...

Ok, here's a new question:

If Cullen is a companion/LI in DA3, what sort of companion armor/outfit would you want him to wear? Would you want him to keep the signature Templar outfit that all the Templars wear or something more unique like how Knight-Commander Meredith had her own distinct uniform. Alternatively, perhaps you'd prefer to see him ditch the armor altogether and turn up in DA3 wearing something completely unexpected like a black hooded outfit that has a rogue-esc feel to it due to him having to go incognito for the Divine/hide from the rebel Templars who've turned on him/whatever. Or maybe even have him turn up in casual clothing for his inital introduction and then later be given a signature look (like they did with Aveline in the beginning of DA2.)

Personally, I'm not too bothered what they have him wear in DA3 so long as he's a companion/LI, but I'm hoping that if it is armor then it won't be quite so heavy/clunky looking and instead will be more tailored/fitted to his physique with smaller shoulder plates, especially if he is going to be a love interest because I could only imagine how awkward any physical interaction would look during cut scenes... I'd like to see him in an intimate moment that doesn't look like there's 10 tons of metal separating him from his lover LOL.

That being said, I have this delicious image in my head for Cullen's DA3 introduction/cinematic cut scene where the new protagonist 'n' co seemingly walk into a random fight *que cut scene cinematics* in which you see a hooded figure dressed in black (kinda similar to Cassandra's concept Seeker armor but more masculine, with a hood) kicking the sh!t out of a group of bad guys (maybe blood mages, corrupt Templars or bandits) the fight ends and you see the a slew of dead bodies scattered on the ground bleeding out around him (from a birds eye view,) then as the camera pans in on the hooded figure from behind (still in his fight stance breathing heavily) he turns his head to look at our character, the camera closes in on his face but his hood is shadowing his features, leaving only the lower part of his jawline showing (from the tip of his nose down to the base of his jaw) you can see a look of determination on his face through gritted teeth. The camera then lingers on our protagonist for a moment who gives him a wary look, not yet knowing if he's friend or foe (kinda like the look pro mage Hawke gives him after the Meredith battle in DA2,) finally the camera swings back to the mysterious figure as a weary half-smile creeps onto his face (you know the expression I'm talking about ladies! :P) Straightening himself up he slowly turns to face the group, simultaneously lifting the hood away from his face to reveal those familiar dark circles emcompassing warm amber eyes, followed by a lightly furrowed brow and trademark cropped wavy blond hair, as the player suddenly realises it's Cullen (and the fangirls squee in delight and pass out from excitement!) Then the cinematics end and the dialogue wheel appears so you can finally converse with him. Perhaps if we do have any of our old companions returning from DA:O/DA2 or a new companion from Kirkwall/the Gallows/Ferelden Circle Tower then they'd say something like "Knight-Captain Cullen?! What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be hunting mages/cleaning up Kirkwall/Answering to the Divine/sniffing Lyrium?" To which he'd give you a brief explanation, that you'd later find out more about through talking to him during "fireside chats" or whatever.

For me, Cullen will always need to be in heavy armor or no armor at all. I remember how weird it was in DAII to see Keran hanging out by the Hanged Man in Act 3 because he left the Templar Order... in leather armor! I almost didn't recognize him. It just didn't look right. Templars/Warriors would have a tough time fighting without heavy armor I think, because their general tactic is to charge straight into a bunch of enemies and trust their heavy plate to protect them while they engage as many of them as possible. Of course that's me thinking with my logical IRL life brain and not my "what would be coolest for a game?" brain. Posted Image Still, I don't think Cullen would look right in anything other than heavy armor, but maybe something not quite so huge - similar to what the Kirkwall guards or the rank-and-file Templars wear in DAII (no crazy arm spikes - see Keran below)

https://encrypted-tb...iQdX0zrKxiNv-ke

Seeing Cullen in a casual outfit would just be delicious. Something that lets us see his arms? Mmm. Posted Image
Really, I'd like to see all of our companions in the next game have both a casual and a combative outfit.

I'd like to see him in an intimate moment that doesn't look like there's 10 tons of metal separating him from his lover LOL.

The thing is, Cullen does have 10 tons of armor between him and his friend/lover. It's a great metaphor for who he is, how he's been raised, and what his duty requires. The boy has a duty to the Maker (or at least he feels he does) and whether he's working with or against the Divine/the Templars/the mages/whoever that sense of duty is going to keep Cullen at arm's length from everyone else... at least for as long as his strength will allow him to do it. I don't see Cullen really having many good friends even within the Templar order. He's kind of a lone wolf, and that wall of metal between you and him is only the first layer to a protective shell he keeps around himself at all times.

Which, of course, is what will make it so amazing to see him (whether as a friend or lover) take down that emotional armor and relax into the warmth of your friendship. Seeing him in a regular tunic and breeches or nekkid in the bedroom would be a shocking and special physical representation of this simply because of the contrast with his usual guarded self and the implications of what this new unguardedness means - a Cullen transformed into someone who trusts, who loves, who lets others in.

So yeah, for intimate moments - no metal (I'm with you!). Unless they want to have an awkward first try at kissing and the armor ruins it. that'd actually be a great reminder of Cullen's situation and I can imagine those spiky armor pieces popping his happy soap bubble and returning him back to the reality of his "I shouldn't get attached" situation --- until either the next time it "accidentally" happened or he became so enamored that he just didn't care.
