I'm here! I would have been posting sooner but I'm pulling a double shift at work. So I'm perusing the amazing fan art and fiction from my cell phone to help pass the time. Thank you for having me, I've always loved Cullen.

Hello to you :] I am freshly declared Cullen supporter on this forum. I guess it's me getting hyped about E3 and the expected DA3 tease. Can't wait

I'm curious as to when we started to have the reputation of being rapid fanbase. People say we're a bunch of vocal minorities and sick of hearing about Cullen. Ironically enough, we don't need to do anything since the haters keep advertising Cullen for us by making constant threads about Cullen.

Lola and I counted 'em up at one point a few months back, and there literally were 4 Cullen hate threads for every one in support. So, I stand by my opinion that it's all about perception, and the folks who talk about him most are not the fans (outside of dedicated places like this, where you easily can just avoid it by not clicking in). With Cullen as the only sorta confirmed companion, all the heat's on him, and as a result, on us. It's tough because he's already a polarizing character. Add to that the fact that his fans are generally assumed to be "slavering  fangirls" and you've got a ready-made situation to, erm, bring out the best in the videogame community.

I'm realizing it's sorta sad that Chanda wanted to have a positive conversation about Cullen and was basically told... go back to the DA2 forums. A very sane suggestion, given the nature of the DA3 forums, but also a very telling one.

edited for dangling modifier... :o

^^ it is sad that people do not have respect for each others opinions, and some genuine curiosity. I like to read posts of others with different opinions to my own but it looksthat a lot of people on forums seem to take them as personal attacks and the tone quickly becomes extreme, and there is no dialogue, just trying to keep yours on the top. Sad really, since the idea behind forums is sharing and creating community not jumping to each others throats. I must say I still don't understand why somebody would care that characters have fans, some more than others...

It seems that some people go through major emotional turmoil knowing that others like "unworthy" characters

I sincerely hope that we are allowed to keep this thread in the DA2 forum. Only because my fear is that if Cullen were to become a companion and a new thread was created in the DA3 forum ... well I dread to think, bearing in mind the ME3 Character threads were all closed.

On a positive note welcome Chanda :wizard:!

I was an Anders fan before and after DA2 came out. I survived that backlash, I'm sure we'll all survive this. :wizard:

The bright side being: Nobody is coming in here to tell us we all have battered woman syndrome.
(Yes, someone actually did that).

I'm always a bit shocked and quite disappointed in how some people think they can speak under an 'annynomous' handle. Not using your real name is NOT an excuse to spout out whatever garbage you please. I highly doubt half of these people would be saying the majority of what they post to someone's actual face. It's sad really. I truly believe that everyone is welcome to their own opinion, and that's great, but I really don't think it's necessary to be rude or hateful about it or believe that said opinion is some how better or more correct than someone else's.

This is another thing I cannot relate since I am very Internet conscious. There is a massive potential for misunderstanding in written word even without the intention of trolling... That's why I'm avoiding lots of places purely because of the negative vibe they have. I  agree, anonymity brigs the worst in some people, I guess it is also the case of virtual existence of your "victims", you cannot see their reaction and the impact your words have on them, therefore your conscious is clear...

We might need to start a new Cullen thread when they get the DA3 really up and running. If that's the case, I wonder if we can get a velvet rope and a bouncer with a list to keep out the ickiness. Image IPB

Oh dear, I feel like we should  break into a chorus of "We shall overcome." :D But very good points, Batteries. Oy vey. I have heard Cullen fans likened to Stockholm Syndrome victims... but not usually here in our happy place.

I'm sure there will be way more than just Cullen to talk about when the info wagon starts rolling.

If he is confirmed or shown in a trailer or what have you, I hope a fan will make the page before a mod. Fans make prettier front character discussion pages.

I don't remember being held hostage by Cullen at any point.

Worst I can say I've seen myself is "lol stoopid wimminz".

We've talked about strategies for this. When they first opened the DA3 forums, I tried to start a fan page there... and evilChris shut it down. Dunno if a fan page will be possible until they make a companions subforum. It would be preferable to be able to keep the first page updated by having it fan made, but then we keep losing our fan creators over time anyway. So in some sense I don't think it really matters who creates it.

I had someone comment on my Cullen speculation video saying "For the first 5 seconds of your video I thought oh know not another crazy Cullen fan..." fortunately she watched the whole thing, realised I wasn't squeeing and I managed to convert her, which was a rarity.

(Little does she know about our crusade LOL!)

oh whoops. I was only thinking of DA2. :innocent:

I don't know, I can see why some people may find his crush a little creepy (he does watch you for a living), but I never saw what the big deal about it was.

We spoke, he stuttered, he ran away, I laughed.
Tsk tsk, Cullen and his wily rapey ways.

Then he was tortured by blood mages and we spoke to him, like, right in the process of it. Of course he's going to be cray cray about it. :alien:

^^ :D

during my first playthrough I completely missed him in the mage origins and was quite puzzled what he was talking about in the cage... "hmm, you stay here, breath deep, I will kill all the bad people, then come back and we will go through it again and I will try to make sense out of it, mmkay?"

LOL Yeah. It also doesn't help that the writers fanned the creepy flame. But whatever, he's grown into a really interesting character, which foster some really interesting insights and discussion ... when shallow insults aren't being thrown around about him and his fans. *sigh*

It makes me want to write a high school AU about Kinloch Hold. With straight-laced freshman, Cullen the hall monitor, stuttering everytime he meets cheerleader Solona Amell.

Geez, Lola. What an awkward comment from someone! As often as we hear about the "crazies", I wonder how many rogue insane Cullen fans must be out there that we don't know about. Passing out flyers, spray painting Templar graffiti ... kidnapping naysayers and hiding them away in reconditioning camps. Boogety boo! We're coming for you! lmao!
