Oh gawd, you know... that Hellmouth/Spike thing might actually be closer to home than we think, what with the whole veil tearing/demon/Ancient Magister sh!t and everything. If my theory that the veil will tear completely open in DA3 whilst all the Mage/Templar crap is going on comes true then we already know how it ends.

Sssshhhhhh. You might wake the foul demons who possess writers with serendipitous horror. :crying:

We might need to parody the idea to its death.

Where's Galagraphia when you need her eh! ... Actually, I wonder where's she disappeared to? I bet she'd be quite impressed at how her little Cullen thread has blossomed!

LOL I just want my Mage-Templar Unity skill... Maybe if I max it out, I could get the special Star option "Offer to sacrifice Keran instead.". :D

Sacrificing Keran would require the rivalry path. :D

Ah but he's not a virgin, he frequents the Blooming Rose on a regular basis!

Oh, right.  Are there any virgin templars left in Thedas besides Cullen?!?  :pinched:

Erm... Hm, I don't think there are. :-S

Heh heh, I was going to suggest Templar recruit Hugh... but there's something about Keran. He just seems too virginal. He may have been frequenting the Rose, but Idunna was doing her jedi mind tricks on them. I'd bet he never even got any...

Yes, this interview with Jennifer Hepler at the BioWare Blog contains the phrase "... we are at the end of pre-production and beginning of production".

I want DG to write him, he done Alistair which was a total masterpiece... Although if he does write Cullen then he'll probably do something evil with him no doubt lol.

No matter who writes him, something evil will happen to him. Cullen was never going to be the "effortless" romance option. Assuming that he's a romance option at all. Or a companion. Mind you, I don't want to think about the nerdrage if he isn't a companion. At this point, I'm crossing my fingers and trying not to get my hopes up. It isn't easy.

There are two "familiar faces" I want to see in DA3: Cullen and Galyan. Alain might be a possible substitute for the second, but at this point, there is no substitute for Cullen. My religiously-conflicted mage protagonists-to-be demand it. I know he had a thing for the female mage PC, but I wonder if he finds males at all attractive...

Agree. Cullen is the textbook angsty character at this point in his evolution, with his duty and identity in question, so indeed any romance has its drama built in. The PC doesn't even need to be a mage, although I imagine that would be particularly satisfying for Amell shippers. I'm also not getting my hopes up one way or the other [although still praying to the BW gods that he's a romanceable companion!!]. I currently think it's slightly more likely that he'd be an NPC than a companion, but I would be flat out surprised if he doesn't show up at some point, in at least a cameo. He's just too perfect for a mage-templar conflicted world!

Then, so long as we're not required to undertake vieralynn's Blood Sacrifice of a Virgin Templar - Best Served Cold quest, we're good! ;)

Heh, well, I think whoever writes him from that group will do a good job, although after Sheryl Chee and Jennifer Hepler, it may be DG's turn. Ahem. So long as there's no creepy hair brushing...:?

LOL I bet they'll add some sort of comment about hair brushing just for the "Lols."

I guess something crappy will happen to him either way, but it's usually down right cruel when DG writes them! But as you say he's likely to be in DA3 in some capacity at least. Although if my Spike/Cullen theory is correct then his character will be too tempting for DG to pass up as a companion/love interest, especially if it's a doomed relationship.

Between Cullen == Spike and Cullen's Justin Timberlake hair, I now wonder how often young women in Kirkwall went to the Gallows courtyard just to oogle and giggle at the oblivious templar.

It's my personal theory that Cullen is main reason there are suddenly so many female templars at the Gallows.

To erase the ickiness, here's some fun hairbrushing, by Galagraphia:

Man, I'm still floored by their resemblance. The hair alone is just... uncanny!

Plus, one thing I did really like about the Spike storyline in season 7 was that his love for Buffy was part of his redemption. That could be interesting... We see Cullen on a downward spiral of doubt and uncertainty, maybe he does something "bad" in his despondency, but then he comes back to the light so he can live up to being the man he sees in her/his eyes.

R2: Yes! I'd love that! Like maybe he's supposed to screw us over in some way or sabotage something but his love/friendship with the protagonist makes him sacrifice his own safety to save him/her in some way.

I'm almost positive that even if Cullen ends up a nonromanceable NPC in DAIII we'll still get to flirt with him, even if it comes to nothing.

I've decided to think of romancing Cullen as an inevitability. If it doesn't happen in DAIII, it'll still happen sometime. ;)

R2s Muse: (Almost-)Naked Cullen brushing his hair. :D Gotta agree with perv Amell that it is well worth sneaking into the templar's quarters. As for all of those female templar recruits, I think Meredith stationed Cullen out in the courtyard to give the Templar Order a pretty public face. ;D

brushyourteeth: Shouldn't flirting with Cullen be mandatory in a DA game?!

Has anyone in the past on this thread tried making a guess at Cullen's age?

I have my guess at a likely age range plus my headcanon with an exact birthdate, but I'm curious to hear what the rest of you think.

I got the feeling that Cullen is about the same age as the Warden. In DA:O, he looks older, but I'm thinking that's a case of the guy who did the morphs not reading the hesitant, socially awkward dialogue. So, if the Warden was 20 at the start of DA:O, she'd be 31 when Cassandra was interrogating Varric... give or take.

What's your date of birth for him? OK, I admit it. I'm curious about what astrological sign you imagine for him. Me, I don't think I could figure that out. Not for any of the companions, believe it or not.

I'd say he's in his early 30's too. I dunno what star sign. Virgo maybe? Would the Dragon Age universe have star signs? If they do they're probably different to ours.

Cullen looks far older than he acts in DA:O, but many characters in DA:O looked old to me. For instance, Alistair looked 28-33 to me but based on everything else we know (plus the way he acts), Alistair was probably 20-22 during the Blight.

During the male mage origin, Cullen states that "this is all new to me" after expressing his concerns about what an abomination might be or might look like. We could read that as him having an uneventful, peace experience as a templar but it doesn't seem all that plausible.

I suspect that Cullen had been recently promoted to the full duties of a templar shortly before the warden takes her/his Harrowing and I'd also guess that was Cullen's first Harrowing.

My guess is that Cullen is close in age to the Warden and/or Hawke. I'll guess anything between 20-25 during the DA:O origin story, but the fact that Meredith is willing to quickly promote Cullen to Knight-Captain in DA2 makes me wonder if he's at the older end of that range.

For my headcanon (and upcoming fic if I find time to write) unless I have reason to reconsider I'm giving him a birthday in 9:06 in the middle of the Seventh Month of Solis, just before the Funalis Annum holiday. So, that would make him 23-24 during the Blight, 27-28 when Hawke is made Champion, and 30-31 when Anders blows up the Chantry. It sort of feels right to me, sort of. ;)

Color me curious as well! So, I've been figuring that that he's roughly the same age as the Warden and Hawke, give or take. Over on the Cullen fan group Samara once upon a time convinced me that Amell is a bit older than Hawke (based on a comment about how the Amells had no luck after Revka had her mage daughter, and then Leandra ran off after that). Leandra ran off pregnant with Hawke 25 years before the start of DA2. So I figure in 9:30, Hawke's around 24-25, Amell must be a bit older... 25-26? (which seems pretty old for someone going through the Harrowing...). Then, Cullen must be around that as well, putting him at at least 32ish in Act 3 and 35ish during the interrogation. So there's my wild speculation!

While that seems a bit old for the Warden, I can't imagine Cullen being in his twenties for the entirety of DA2. That just seems too young, but...

Now, I thought I read somewhere that the DA:O toolset told you ages...? It would be nice to have a few more details.
