I imagine the devs have something evil planned for Cullen, just evil. He betrays us and we need to kill him, or he dies right in the first scene....oh no, the agony of thinking about it.

When it comes to having my hopes high with Cullen's presence in DAI, there is a trade off. On one hand there is a considerable risk of disappointment, particularly if he's completely out of the game (hard to believe tbh). On the other hand, there is a great feeling of excitement when hoping that he'll actually appear and play a major role (and I love all the speculating going on here). I prefer the excitment and I think I will deal with disappointment. And because I never expected him in DA2, I was pleasantly surprised how he was handled in that game. Therefore I choose to believe that if he appears, his story will be interesting.

^^hey, if it's in character, then I will swallow this bitter pill... I mean if protagonist does something that goes against his principles then why not. I was chewing on the blood mage issue few pages back and I would accept it. Would be hard though :/ I really, really hope he won't manage to get to DAI only to die (sic!) in first few minutes...

Scrap that, I was able to render if because half the footage was corrupt. Not to worry though, I'm sure I'll have more bloopers within the next month lol.

LOL If DG's comment about Cullen's last name on a tombstone was actually foreshadowing... oh boy. That would be an epic troll!  But, it perhaps is something we should prepare for.

I've always  been a bit concerned that DG so often talked about fear of fan backlash (in the BSN tradition of talking about the fans not the character...). It could just be the result of bad past experience with Cullen fans over DA:O and DA2, but I do worry that he went straight to the pitchforks. It makes me wonder if the writers have done something (melo)dramatic with his character. Killed him off early. Sent him into the depths of lyrium addiction. Made him into an evil mage hunter. Given him a wife back home. Put him on trial where he admits he was aware and allowed all the rapey stuff at the Gallows. His actual personality is revealed and he's a total @sshole. Or worse... he's not really in the game at all. LOL I think we need to prepared for all of it.

For myself, I've continued to be skeptical that he'll have a large role in the game. From GE's tweet, all we know is that he has some lines recorded, which may or may not feature. While I'd love for him to be a companion, I'm really expecting a cameo or at most, a significant NPC role like he had in DA2. So I expect him to show up, but I'll be surprised if he's a full companion. Pleasantly, ecstatically surprised.

I'm fully expecting him to at least be an optional kill in DA3, he's dodged a bullet for two games now and too many people want to see him dead. Unless it is just a cameo, in which case he's probably safe, lol.

Well, let's prepare! And I am serious about this. We need a banner with a tombstone on it that says Cullen and underneath that it says (What was his last name, again?). It would show that we're ready to accept whatever happens to Cullen, and it might get us in the right mindframe. I have no banner making skills or I'd make it.

Honestly though, it's gonna take more than a banner to prepare myself LOL, but I agree that we should definitely try to get into the mindset that he probably won't be a companion/LI or that something sh!tty is gonna happen to him.

On a side note, has anyone that's romanced Anders ever noticed how when you have your first kiss, he sounds like he's eating a sandwich? Like he's just really wolfing it down. I thought he was eating Hawke's face off.

I would actually be pretty chuffed if he was a significant npc character (and not just a name on the grave). I guess it may be telling that DG suggested pitchforks but, considering how possesive fans can be when it comes to their favourite characters, they (writers) might expect that even minor "changes"/development could result in a roar of disapproval (not that it would really happen). I guess part of the problem is that at this stage we know nothing specific about the game, hence the only speculation is based on those snippets we know, but more importantly on the ending of the previous game. And when you look at it, there is a lot that could suggest Cullen's appearance in the next installment. I'm trying to remind myself that at the end of the day it is them telling us a story and providing us with interesting characters, so I'll take whatever they give me :]

At first I was prepared for the worst. When I joined the Cullen thread we all thought that we'd be lucky if we got a cameo out of him, but then that survey leak happened and GE let slip that he'd recorded at least one VO session and suddenly we had something to be excited for. I think things only started feeling like a big possibility once Cullen started taking over other threads and people started going on and on about him to the point that the devs/writers couldn't ignore it.

I guess really all the hype has come from that. In reality we're probably still no closer to getting him as a companion/LI than we were before we'd even heard that DA3 was in the making.
