Oooo, good thinking! They could really go to town with the turning camera angles and close ups of their faces/expressions as they're dancing. You know they'd absolutely have to do that thing where towards the end of the dance the two of them are like a hairs breathe from each other and linger just that moment too long before they're interupted by the music stopping or some drunkard barging in the way. (R2, you need to write this!)
My gawd, I reckon Cullen would be absolutely swoon worthy in that sort of scene, out of his usual armour with that cute little half smile he does.

One thing I feel DA can take from Skyrim is the way NPCs are always doing something... chopping wood, blacksmithing, playing tag, whatever. At the ball for example I'd love it if some people were talking in a group, one was munching on food, others were dancing... not everyone just standing around woodenly like in MOTA.
LOL, Iron Bull getting hideous drunk and making an arse out of himself!
Yeah, I'd love to see them mingling and interacting with the environment/npcs whilst the protagonist ran around doing his/her thing, then when we wanted to interact with said companions we'd just approach them and it would trigger a cut scene or mini event involving said companion.

After several recent games the expectations are high for more natural npc ai. I love to stalk npcs in Skyrim...motomotogirl wrote...

With Cullen and Hawke dancing out on the balcony, right? She could write another with the new protagonist, but as a one off short drabble about the dancing scene only.

lmao! I'm guilty of this. Especially those random Thalmor patrols... where the hell do they go? I stalked one group half way across the map before I finally just said "screw it" and slaughtered them, gave their prisoner some spare weapons and armor and sent him off on his merry way.neonmoth wrote...

PS - Totally unashamed to be pimping out R2's fics. Love her writing.

A lot of people complained about the companions/npcs/AI being rubbish in the DA games, and what with a lot of recent RPG games really going above and beyond with that sort of thing I expect that DA3 will probably follow suit... or I hope so anyway, not that it's massively important, but it adds to the ambience. Seems kinda pointless having amazing looking environments without the characters within it making use of it.

Haha, I remember this one dude you can save from Thalmor embassy. I was following him for quite some time running like crazy in the darkness and only lost him when attacked by several walruses :happy:meanieweenie wrote...

Seriously, if the random npcs have half assed faces again I'm going to lose my mind. And yes, they really do need some kind of task. It really bothered me that some of them would be pacing 20 ft, then do a total 180 of out nowhere.LolaLei wrote...

Another guilty pleasure of mine is to stand in their way. I remember this turian dude in ME3 who was pushing my Shep for quite a distance. Most of them stop though, weirdos.meanieweenie wrote...

On a serious note I would like if at least several main npcs had some sort of simple daily routine. So you can find them in different places.

I'm hoping they have a more 'natural' feeling day / night cycle, rather than what they had for DA2. (I hate to say 'like Skyrim's' again but there it is.) NPCs having a daily routine would be great! Knowing that Joe Bob's store is open from 8-5 and then he'll be at the pub before heading home at night. Maybe you can catch him walking to and from these places.neonmoth wrote...

Why is it so satisfying killing Thalmor guards, despite me being an elf and supporting the Imperials LOL

well, to be fair to BW, those choices are all due my... Limitations. With the Anders swaps, I didn't know how to swap Hawke yet. In the other, which is Merril's, they each change clothes on their own at different times, which makes it hella hard to control who looks like what, when. As a result, I have just about every permutation for this scene due to these limitations.neonmoth wrote...
I like how semi-nudity is limited to one or the other :]

I wouldn't mind there to be more than just day and then night. I think I only recall seeing one sunset in-game and that was after clearing out Bartrand's mansion of ghosts and demons.

Ahh, totes. Cullen standing around like a dunce in the Gallows got old. Or Varric just standing in his room at the bar. Weird.

Yes I remember that, too; remember thinking it was pretty cool and for a split second made me feel like I was really in Kirkwall.

What I'm hoping is that when the companions are following you around, if you stop to, say, answer the phone and don't pause the game then when you return you find the companions (all still in the position they were standing in) doing sedentary actions, like polishing/inspecting his/her sword, another sitting on the floor chilling out, another kneeling down going through his/her bag.

It would be cool if we got proper day-to-night cycles like The Witcher 2 had, but I dunno how viable that would be given the way the quests are implemented. Mostly I'd like to see weather effects, even if it's just during cut scenes or they just automatically change for one quest or whatever.
