They said that they planned to bring back the option to talk to companions whenever we wanted, but seemed to be hinting towards the fact that it would take place in the home hub, rather than just anywhere... like in the middle of a broodmother battle.

I remember Wynne once chastising me for my relationship with Zevran whilst we were in the middle of cleaning out the Circle Tower  I was like, damn lady, I hardly know you, and AREN'T WE KIND OF BUSY?!

"No Warden, matters of your pelvic area heart are outmost important and I feel somewhat ispired by the surrounding gore" :P

However silly it will sound I actually loved this aspect. I know that having it in the middle of the battle can be annoying but I liked that there was no rule to those convos, that they could happen anywhere. Ohh, I so hope we will have lots of convos and banter with followers. I just can't wait to meet them all =]

Edit: ToP, have more rainy Cullen

From what Mike Laidlaw was hinting at, he said that they can do much better with the whole "home hub" and companion interaction thing. DG noted that players seemed to prefer conversing with the companions rather than learning via quests.

I like being able to talk to my companions in camp or home hub, or whatever, and I like hearing the banters and I like their side quests and their random visits (as long as the setting makes sense)! Why can't they just do it all? :D

What I'd ideally like to see is the ability to talk to the companions/LIs whenever we want at the home hub and between quests when we're bumming around the cities etc (like we did in DA:O). Then during quests they'd only talk about quest related stuff at set times (like they did in DA2). That to me seems like the best of both worlds and we wouldn't have to worry about them interupting us mid-battle to talk about their long lost dog or favourite colour.

I think I'd like to hear more about their thoughts, opinions and backgrounds beyond what drives them. Obviously we couldn't learn much about Fenris' past life since he couldn't remember any of it, but I would've liked to hear him talk about mundane things. In DA:O you could talk to Leliana about shoes, Morrigan about silly things she done as a kid, Zevran's various conquests and fetishes, Alistair would take you to one side to have a gossip about the other companions etc. That's one of the biggest things I missed.

I always felt that those moments of "normality" in conversations made the game feel more poignant given the situation they were all in and the seriousness and danger they faced. It was like they were trying desperately to keep hold of some semblance of their former lives before the big bad.

This so much! The little quirks that make a character.

I hear you, and DA2 was definitely missing these kinds of conversations. Everything was so "immediate"; Anders HAD to talk to you about his paranoia, and the templars, and the injustices of the world, he just HAD to! Right now! NO, we can't talk about something ELSE, Hawke; do you even care about this?! This is important!! If you love me, you love my Cause!! AGHGHGGH! *Justice explosion*

Hawke: ... But I just wanted to know your favorite flavor of ice cream, sweetie :o

LMAO! That pretty much sums up why Anders' and Fenris' romances turn me off. Making their convos a quest was stupid, to me. Making them have a personal quest like Alistair's sister, Morrigan's delemma withe Flemeth and so on, made me feel like my PC was doing what she could to build good friendships and in the face of what was going on, it was a nice touch. In DA2 you get the sense that they all hang out and whatnot and in the setting of the game, it added an every day life type of atmosphere to things but Iwould like to have seen these things happening, thank you.

Yes I liked the comments on your relationship more in Origins; in DA2, it's just Varric going, Are you sure about him? Hawke: Yep. Varric: Okay, bro. THE END.

Or Aveline, "What about you and [insert LI anme]?"  Hawke: *hangs head* We're not the best example.

For which I could understand when it came to Fenris, but s/he does and says the same thing for ALL romances!!! I saw nothing to indicate that Hawke/Anders or Hawke/Isabela weren't happy at the time. Weird.

I can understand why characters like Anders would be obsessed and single minded most of the time, but it sure gets tiring if you hear the same song over and over.

And that's what DA2 lacked.

I wanted to hear more about Anders numerous escapes from the tower (despite the fact that he told us a couple in DA:O), I wanted Isabela to tell me all about her time at sea, the adventures she'd had and how she came to be a pirate in the first place, I wanted to see Hawke teaching Fenris how to read and hear about his favourite types of books, I wanted Merrill to teach Hawke how to frolic in meadows, and Varric to beat us at cards and tell us colourful stories about the people he'd met on his travels, I wanted to hear about Seb's wilder days back in Starkhaven and to attend Aveline's wedding to Donnic and listen to her tell Hawke about his bad habits.

It's that sort of thing that makes people bond with the characters, not just "oh woe is me, I hate templars", "I hate slavers", "I want a boat", "mirror, mirror, mirror" and so on. There's more to a character than what drives them, and THAT is what I want to experience.

Actually, I lie. I think...? Anders does say that line about the rule he will most cherish breaking. THAT was swoon worthy. I'd forgotten about it. Nearly nulls and voids everything else. And Fenris' romance was kind of hot! I just hated that he ran off. I was okay with his baggage but sick of the "mages are EVILLL!" from him. When that was linked to romance going awry, it annoyed me. I guess I wanted to "fix" my LIs, kinda like you do Isabela. I wanted Hawke's relationship with them to matter enough to help them heal. Instead, the crazy train stays on course.

Yeah, Anders little blurb about how he'd ached for Hawke every night for the past 3 years was definitely hot, but it would've packed more of a punch if we'd actually seen him yearning for her by his reactions to npcs flirting with Hawke 'n' visa versa. I maintain that this is where the whole body language and facial expressions/reactions would've come in handy.

I'm a big believer that if you're going to mention it in the game then let us see it. It wouldn't have taken much to, for example, show a scene of Hawke teaching Fenris to read. all they had to do was have Fenris standing in the library section of the house, we click on him and a cutscene triggers of them reading together that leads into a fade to black intimate moment or something. BAM, sorted!

Or with Anders:

Hawke: "here, I've got you something..."

Anders: "What is it? Oh my! A kitten!!" *Squees*

*Que cut scene of them playing with the kitten in the mansion*

I want all that too! They did do the backstory stuff much better in DAO, though, as you say still not to that depth. Forgot how much chattering you get to do in KOTOR, I like it.

Right? But then there's the dicey problem of having a character ninjamance someone that didn't want to romance them. I think having the player make the first move with a gratuitous compliment, like in DA2 should be a more distinct signal for the game so it knows who to throw at you. And then invest some time in showing all the little ways that LI is returning the interest.

One thing, that I thought would be cool is, in battle if your PC falls and the LI is still standing, you get a little cutscene of them reacting. Like they going "MAker no!" and running to their side. When gameplay resumes, the player is controlling the LI (or close friend even would work) and is standing where you fell. This would A: Show the LI's feelings and B: Keep the player's perspective because suddenly flopping to the nearest ally in mid fight was jarring as F - - K! You could still switch to other party members as needed, but I still think it would be cool. Just not every time because "Maker nooo!" would get tired fast if you go down a lot. Well, I try not to have my PC go down too much anyway.

Or save it for bosses. If Hawke had fallen during a boss fight and the post fight showed a scene of their comrades healing them and talking about how glad they hadn't lost them...

*is thinking of Sky and the post Spirit Monk resurrection scene*

Yes! Show AND tell! They couldn't even be arsed to show the "gifts" that Hawkes was giving in those scenes.

Although those hands were sooo awful, it may have been for the best.

Oh yeah, I mean in theory he would've only started making eyes at Hawke and showing subtle signs if Hawke had flirted a set amount of times in the first place. I mean, you have no idea if Anders is having sexy thoughts about Hawke if you don't flirt with him at all because he only tells you when he decides to pounce.

I can't remember what Sky says in that scene now, it's been a long time!

Oh yeah, I mean in theory he would've only started making eyes at Hawke and showing subtle signs if Hawke had flirted a set amount of times in the first place. I mean, you have no idea if Anders is having sexy thoughts about Hawke if you don't flirt with him at all because he only tells you when he decides to pounce.

I can't remember what Sky says in that scene now, it's been a long time!

It would have been nice if Anders' romance wasn't BOOM! "Surprise!" hahahaha!

I think Sky says something like "When you fell, a part of me shattered. And when we realized the spirits were... (forgot) I knew  you were trying to make your way back to me." Or something like that. He says a lot. I'm sure it's in wiki... now I wanna go look it up! Hee! :D

From the twitter thread... So, less than four videos' worth of stuff. Hey, it's a boundary!

I believe that studio GM Aaryn Flynn will be attending along with DA producer Cameon Lee (and possibly others) to be our spokespeople.

And, just to manage expectations a bit, I am not sure where "4 videos" came from, but if that is the 4 videos mentioned by the LA video crew, they are not all Dragon Age related. They work on many EA games. Temper expectation accordingly.

I'm lame and don't watch Game of Thrones :B

or I should say I tried, liked it initially, but was then put off by how horrible Daenerys was constantly treated first season
Really did make me feel sick

I'm guessing things get better, by what people say now.

I play it in the background so I'm only partly watching it. Funnily enough I don't tolerate a lot of violence in movies *says so whilst hacking cultists in the game*

I prefer books anyway even though with this series I'm on the fence... I would love to not to care about it but the author knows how to pace the story so well, just couldn't stop reading :pinched:

it was the whole 'baby genocide' at the beginning of season 2 that I couldn't handle and stopped watching. I've been told it's not that bad and the rest of the season is good, but idk, I just couldn't watch anymore babies die.

I have a love-hate relationship with the story. There is a lot of cruelty in it so it can be hard to manage sometimes. I'm also quite sensitive to animals being killed. For instance I love Nick Cave but I had to drop his book, which was recomended by my friend, when a bunch of kids killed a dog. His portrayal of the situation left me quite disturbed. It was many years ago, so maybe now I would have a slightly different reaction but I'm not tempted.

urgh me too.

Babies? Whatever. Cute fuzzy animals?... :crying:

I don't know why people thought all 4 vids would be DA related anyway, it's obvious that only one of them will be.
