Like recently I watched this fictional detective show where this guy has a sex change for his gay partner because he couldn't face being openly gay due to his reputation, but instead of using an androgynous male or MTF actor they used a real female who had a slightly deep voice.

lol It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, I guess. The movie Transamerica starred a female playing a MTF person and supposedly it was good... haven't seen it though.

Yeah I love the actor in the Crying Game; his only other role (I think) is the psycho alien prince guy in Stargate LOL

The "twins" look a lot like Hawke's early concept art. I wonder if maybe they decided to use those two for the new protagonist instead?

I think they are supposed to represent the protagonist.

BTW did you notice that the man also has a glowy fist? I thought just the woman did for the longest time.

This is totally just me, but if we got to choose a companion's self-gendered identity I would be insanely disappointed with Bioware. Player agency doesn't mean it's healthy or realistic to change someone's self-perceptions and life choices on that level. I'd probably end up booting that companion rather than be the deciding factor about their gender identity. :(

Weird that it's mages again, I thought the rogues would get a chance this time round.

Agreed, I'd rather have Dorian as whatever he is and not have it change based on what my protagonist's gender or motivations are.

Well I come at it as a writer; I have changed characters' sex and sexuality many times before throughout the writing process. They aren't people; they are characters, and it's all about formulating the story you want to tell. And essentially, BW's games allow us to tell our own story (within a few very specific parameters, obviously).

It's really no different than me putting a different head on all the companions after my one millionth playthrough just to keep things interesting lol

The reason I'm against it is because it would simply be limiting options for the player!

Man, we're really blazing through these pages. I didn't think we'd make much of a dent in the 1900s until after the reveal.

I'd totally play as a mage-rogue, then I could get my street rat background and still shoot lightening at fools!

Maker's balls, I LOVED the rogue-mage hybrid in Dragon's Dogma. That was a joygasm all in itself.

That would totally be the best class though. Like, lightning sparks shooting off the tips of your daggers as you slice through the enemy!!!

What a fantastic rumour! I love if they would do that! But I bet they won't. The ultimate genderbent carachter. Love it! Yep! LOVE IT!

Also big phat LOL at the Dog video. So funny when he pisses at the end of the video. Hahaha!

My wish for a pet would be a Griffin baby. <3

I liked the idea someone had of one of the companions having a pet. Sort of like the Ash Warrios and their mabaris.

I just can't be in support of anything that forwards the idea that someone's sexuality or gender identity is malleable to anyone else's preferences. We don't get to decide who someone else is or who they're attracted to, period. Not even for the sake of fun. From a sociological perspective, that kind of practice can be incredibly damaging to a population when those expectations are translated into the real world (and that unfortunately happens, even though it seems like we should all "know better"). The writers decide who a character is, and we don't get to change their sexuality or gender. I literally have rage-goosebumps right now thinking about it. Image IPB

But now that I've expressed that very strong (and obviously strange) opinion, I'm fine with dropping it. :)

By which I mean I'm going to drop it -- you guys can feel free to discuss without argument from me. :)

Naw, I agree with you Brush. My best friend is FTM, so it's something I also feel strongly about.

Dont stop, what you said makes sense! It's good discussing things like this. If you can bring perspective to someone that's awesome. I love when I get insight into things I haven't considered. It was enlightening!

Edit: Though thinking about it, this has to do with the 'player sexuality' thing and I have VERY strong feelings about fairness and inclusivity. Since we decided not to talk about that topic here I will now drop it.) :?

We should be careful with this topic regardless. I'd hate for it to deeply offend or upset any more posters. Plus, I'll sh!t myself if this thread gets closed down so close to 2000 pages!

So Cullen is amazingly hawt! But for all I care they can melt his face, I just want to know his story and know what happens to him. I have so high hopes he will be a huge part of the game.

edit: that was the worst topic change ever...

LOL! Thank you, Scr0ll. That was incredibly kind and generous of you. :)

So, I know we talked about this a few months ago, but I was thinking again about Cullen and his family background. I've almost decided that I think it would be more interesting (not necessarily better -- just more interesting) if Cullen has a living mother and/or father out there in the world that he stays in touch with.

It would be clichéd but could be super moving if he turns out to come from a family of mages himself. Maybe his mother or father is in a Circle somewhere or possibly in Tevinter.

I was thinking about that scenario today because somehow I got to thinking about how Circle mages' children are taken away from them by the Chantry, but the ones without any magical ability still have the magic *gene* in them somewhere. Putting them into the Order, where most of them don't marry and some choose to be celibate is a great way to keep that *gene* from spreading!

I also just realized that between Circles there must be a lot of members that are related to one another and have no idea! Most of them may have never met, but with the Circles disbanded a lot of those folks are going to potentially be reunited to family members and have no clue!

I still like the idea of him either having no family because they all perished when he was a sprog, or he's the son of two mages that were killed by the hands of the very Templars that took him to the Chantry to become a Templar, or he and his brother/sister are the only two people bringing up all his younger siblings after their mother ran off and abandoned them or something.

Anything tragic is good with me really, LOL!
