I still like the idea of him either having no family because they all perished when he was a sprog, or he's the son of two mages that were killed by the hands of the very Templars that took him to the Chantry to become a Templar, or he and his brother/sister are the only two people bringing up all his younger siblings after their mother ran off and abandoned them or something.

Anything tragic is good with me really, LOL!

OMG.

That's.... genius. Evil, but genius!

Would he start out knowing that's how it happened, or would he find out later? If later, how are you thinking that would happen? Spiteful co-Templar who read his files, Fade sequence, other...?

And he'd only find out in DA3 after being approached by some old mage that was a friend of his parents because:

"I'd recognise you anywhere boy, you look just like your father and you have your mothers golden locks!"

Then he'd be like Wtf?! And he'd go looking through old documents in Val Royeaux where all the documentation on the individuals of the Chantries holy army is kept!

Although, having some jerk rebel Templar dig up his past and taunt him with it also works really well!

OMG. It would probably burn him up even worse if he found out that everyone seemed to know but him.

One of the Divine's agents says something to him like, "I see we have no reason to question your loyalty. Even if... well, no matter." Cullen thinks it's in reference to his actions toward Meredith in Kirkwall, but after awhile he learns that he was the only one who didn't know his parentage. So many reasons to doubt his loyalty to the Order!  Posted Image

Was it Mr. Gaider that said "those who want a normal romance/friendship with no drama...no you don't!"
I find this statement to be so true. We're evil people. >:D

I think if he was Divine loyal he'd be fine. The rebel Templars however would probably dig that sort of background up on him to use as ammo... maybe that's what happened to him after DA2.

"His parents were mages, killed by Templars. He MUST be pro-mage, that's why he helped Hawke killed Meredith! Bring him in for questioning!"

LOL - it's true! I think (and this is just me) that there are a LOT of orphans in Thedas. Your past can't haunt you half so well when it's dead as when it's alive and waiting to bring fresh drama into your life. Posted Image

** EDIT: but I LOVE the "mom and dad were rebel mages" idea.

*** MOAR EDIT: love it even MORE if mom or dad is in Aeonar. Posted Image

Mum is alive in Aeonar and completely ****ing mental due to years of torture. He has to run a blade through her to end her suffering.

OR... Mom is one of the mages that's actually an agent of the Seekers, and she's tracked Cullen's career with the Order all his life. When they meet she's cold, distant, and unimpressed by him, eventually revealing that the only reason he's ever accomplished anything within the Order was because of her connections and he was ultimately a disappointment to her.

Oh, Maker. So wrong...

He could be the son of the Archon, stolen by kidnappers and brought to the Chantry. Dorian could be joining the party simply as an agent of the Archon to either convince or capture and force Cullen to return to the Imperium. Posted Image

I actually love this idea. It would also explain why he "suddenly" has a last name, if he indeed has one.

The last name question is why I'm increasingly leaning toward live parent(s) or him somehow knowing who the parents are, as opposed to foundling or adopted. I suppose Circle mages could have last names if they come from a known family, but given Anders's experience, for example, mages seem to be deliberately severed from their old lives (of course counterpoint: Solona Amell).

So, last days to get in your E3 pool guesses.... or even change yours...?  If  you do change, try to give us a heads up here so I can add the changes to my compilation.

NOTE that any question that just asked about a trailer, probably should be replaced with "video," i.e. whatever ends up being shown (since it may show stuff, but may not be a proper trailer).
Also, presumably we'll tally after the press conference...?  If folks think we should wait until the end of E3, lemme know.

QUESTIONS:
Deadline: end of the day June 9 (whatever time zone you're on). EA press conference is June 10, 1pm PDT.

1. If one cameo, who is it?
2. If two, who's the other?
3. CGI trailer, gameplay trailer or both? [[OR NONE??]]
4. Protagonist name or not?
5. Male PC, female PC, or both? [[OR NONE??]]
6. Show one LI? (this would have to seem obvious in the footage, I guess... Kissing? Flirting? That'll be a judgment call)
7. First trailer is just a teaser, showing little, or meatier, and showing a lot?
8. According to reveal verbiage and footage shown, main theme of game is: mage-templar conflict, mysteeerious Inquisition dun-dun-dun, aaaaah veil rip/demon incursion!, or other?
9. Who do you think will narrate the trailer, if at all?
10. Non-human characters to be shown? (e.g. dwarves, elves, qunari; mabaris and nugs don't count)
11. NUGS GONE WILD IN TRAILER??
12. Location most shown will be: Orlais? Ferelden? Someplace unrecognizable?
13. Reveal showcases new specialization or ability, like coolass new spell or dual-wielding warrior?
14. Will Flemeth swoop down upon the crowd in the trailer?
15. Will the game still use the same Inquisition logo?

Crawling out from under the rock I've been... well, under, to join in the fun that is the Cullen thread. And that little questionnaire seems like a fun place to start. So here we go:

1. If one cameo, who is it?
Cassandra

2. If two, who's the other?
The Divine

3. CGI trailer, gameplay trailer or both? [[OR NONE??]]
CGI Trailer. Possibly starting with Cassandra reporting to the divine, as was hinted at the end of DAII.

4. Protagonist name or not?
I imagine we'll hear their title before their name this time.

5. Male PC, female PC, or both? [[OR NONE??]]
Male, though I imagine a female trailer will come later.

6. Show one LI?
Probably none.

7. First trailer is just a teaser, showing little, or meatier, and showing a lot?
Probably just showing the set up for the Inquisition, and then ending on a cliffhanger that involves the big bad in some way.

8. According to reveal verbiage and footage shown, main theme of game is: mage-templar conflict, mysteeerious Inquisition dun-dun-dun, aaaaah veil rip/demon incursion!, or other?
Mage-templar conflict and Inquisition at the start, and then OH BALLS VEIL RIP.

9. Who do you think will narrate the trailer, if at all?
Cassandra or the Divine.

10. Non-human characters to be shown? (e.g. dwarves, elves, qunari; mabaris and nugs don't count)
I imagine the races will only be shown if there's battle shots or something.

11. NUGS GONE WILD IN TRAILER??
Why the hell not??

12. Location most shown will be: Orlais? Ferelden? Someplace unrecognizable?
Orlais + random pretty scenary that could be anywhere from the game.

13. Reveal showcases new specialization or ability, like coolass new spell or dual-wielding warrior?
Probably a couple of Mage and Templar abilities.

14. Will Flemeth swoop down upon the crowd in the trailer?
You can never go wrong with Flemeth. Never.

15. Will the game still use the same Inquisition logo?
I hope it does. That logo is sexy.

Edit: had to fix the formatting the forum ballsed up. BC

So I have a not-really-Cullen-related question for the masses:

Who here is hoping there will be some fun RAGING if there's a Fenris cameo and we have Dorian in our party? (Assuming the companions will be the same as in the leak.)

Edit for another question that might be Cullen related if you squint:

And... does anyone else really hope that we have the chance to defend our companions/side with them in an argument this time around? I don't know about you guys, but some of the banter really crossed the line into straight up bullying for me at times, but there was no way to step in to do anything about it. Which just left me really wishing I had a pimp hand button for Fenris, Anders, Sebastian, and even Aveline with her ****-shaming. I know the companions are more than capable of looking after themselves and don't need to be babied, but who wouldn't step in to stop a friend who was bullying someone else or defend a friend who was being bullied or shamed?

I was just catching up on the whole gender bent companion discussion and I have to say I dont like that another character's gender can be decided by what gender I choose. I like that you have to learn to deal with characters as they are - like in real life! :D I think games can teach tolerance to a generation that needs to learn it.

That said... I have a thought. What if there are different possible companions that you could recruit based on the decisions you made? Say you choose to do one thing over another - like you do when you can choose to either defend Amaranthine or Vigil's Keep. The one you don't choose is the one that gets destroyed. So what if potential companions, such as Cullen, were in more than one place and you could only recruit one because that one is in the place you chose to be? The others could be killed or not recruited until later or just be NPCs for the rest of that playthrough. And each companion has a different boon they bring to one of the core missions that you don't have if you managed to recruit someone else. I think it would be neat! ^_^ Personally speaking, of course.

Oh Maker! Dirgegun, I wanted to be able to say something so many times to companions for the crap they could say! I LOVED that my Spirit Monk could defend Zu from Princess Lian! There weren't enough of those kind of moments in Jade Empire. Would love to have them in DA.

I also love the idea of being able to chime in with the banter... Which I want to say they've said we'll get to do more of? I did always feel like the followers got to talk to each other more than I did. LOL

Samara: it would be neat to have certain specific conditions for recruiting someone of it adds to their story. In reality, tho I doubt they'd make it so easy to completely miss out on a huge chunk of story like that. Particularly since missing out on story was I believe one of the reasons given for changing the rivalry system. For ex, the Carver vs Beth choice just seemed like a waste or duplication of resources to me... But maybe I just want to have all the things! :)
