And thus we have the epic DAIII Aeonar prison break quest! Posted Image

How freakin cool would that be??  I would love to see Aeonar finally. Then, you could have little  cameos, like seeing Lily or Jowan there? Outstanding...

It's something they haven't covered properly in Dragon Age before. I mean, sure some of our characters have been locked up before but never for long and certainly not in a grotty horrible setting in which we see a cut scene of them being tortured/chained up and taunted.

And, honestly, not something I think we will see. No one wants to watch that. The story will take place when he is rescued or released.

I dunno, they did something similar in The Witcher 2 and it wasn't too bad.

Aeonar is probably going to be about the creepiest thing we've ever seen if we ever get to go there.

I wonder if it's scary looking there? I hope it is! Where is Aeonar based?

True, you could show some of it. Like one of my few vivid  memories from BG2 were some of freaky labs, which were sorta like dungeons, probably because they were sooo creepy. And, in DA we've crawled through a dungeon or two, like Howe's torture rooms or Lel's imprisonment in  Leliana's song. But, storywise, we'd need some catalyst for storytelling, i.e. how he gets out. That's all I meant. :)

I guess it's in northern Ferelden somewhere, in a spot where the Veil is weak. I keep picturing Azkaban.

heh heh, probably minus the water...

Thinking about it, he still turned against Meredith and either lets a mage-supporting Hawke escape or allows a bunch of apostates to stay free with Hawke so I'm not sure Lambert would want Cullen on board anyway... perhaps he's been locked up in prison for treason within the Order or because they consider him to be a potential threat/abandoner.

Unfortunately, this is my personal head canon right now, despite Cullen as Knight-Commander featuring my fic. :( No matter which side he chose, he disobeyed a direct order and mutineed. I see that being a big deal... but still with the potential for a happy ending. <3

I once received a short gift fic where Cullen shows up at Hawke's manor shortly after the battle at the Gallows. Hawke hastily packs items so she can flee the cit and Cullen states that he's leaving the city too (and he asks if he can go with her). Putting th post-game Hawke/Cullen bit aside, the premise of the fic makes sense when Hawke sides with the mages. Cullen's support during the final part of the final battle shows him directly disobeying his superior while aiding and abetting people who support the mage uprising. When the battle ends and Cullen lets Hawke+co leave, the other templars look unsure of his decision. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the more zealous templars threaten Cullen shortly after that. If they don't, I cannot imagine that higher members of the Templar Order would ever promote him. His two most likely outcomes in a "support mages" ending are get sent to prison or flee.

And, as you've all stated above, even when Hawke chooses a support templars ending for DA2, Cullen's official record is far too spotty because he willing lets apostates stay free. Worse, if Hawke is a mage, he puts an apostate onto the Viscount's seat! That really isn't going to look good in Lambert's eyes and the more conservative templars in Kirkwall are surely grumbling about Cullen breaking the rules.

Aeonar: I'm picturing a merging of those two images, surrounded by very rough seas and lots of creepiness along the approach to it because the veil is so thin.

Please Bioware. Please, please, please take us to Aeonar. ;)

From the Codex:

When the Imperium occupied the area that is present-day Ferelden, they had two sites dedicated to magical experimentation at the extreme ends of the Imperial Highway. The southern one was the fortress of Ostagar, which looked out over the Korcari Wilds. The northern one was Aeonar, although the exact location is now a secret known only to a handful of Templars. Whatever it was the Tevinter were trying to discover at Aeonar, their work was never completed. The fortress was overrun by disciples of Andraste upon hearing the news of her death. According to legend, it was a massacre-eerily silent, for the invaders caught the mages while all but one of them were in the Fade. The site was left structurally sound but spiritually damaged. Possibly because of this, the Chantry chose to put it to use as a prison. Accused maleficarum and apostates are held in the confines of Aeonar. Those who have a powerful connection to the Fade, and particularly to demons, will inevitably attract something across the Veil, making the guilty somewhat easier to tell from the innocent.

Is it possible that Aeonar could be in Orlais, or somewhere nearby? I don't recall if they ever mentioned where it was situated.

Nope, see above. It's in northern Ferelden somewhere, which I suppose does have a coast. So it could have water.

Perhaps Cullen would be imprisoned in Aeonar as a punishment for aiding Mages "if you love them so much, then you can face the same punishment as them" kinda thing, using an official excuse that he could be under the influence of mind control or blood mages/demons as to why he's been sent there, to anyone who dares question it.

Balls. Ah well, he still could have escaped from there or our protagonist may even start off in there and escapes with him when the mage/templar uprising begins.

Poor Cullen. :( As if being tortured by demons once wouldn't be enough.

Hehehe.

Actually, the fact that he's been tortured before would probably be a reason why he won't be locked up and tortured again. What we do know, however, is that DG predicts a lot of "angst" in his future.

Ooh if Aeonar looked like Azkaban that would be amazing, *especially* if it was in the middle of the ocean! It's not like DA has brooms so escape would be impossible!
I pride myself on not being tooooo squeamish, but I don't think I'd be a fan of a torture scene, especially of a character I'm fond of!
But I think if a templar was going to feature in DA3, luck would dictate it was Cullen. He seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Summer holiday is boring me so I may finally do a full playthrough as an Amell warden!
