Actually, the World of Thedas talks about a lot of different important families in Thedas by name. Could be we'll be playing as a member of one of those. My guess is we'll definitely meet at least some, as quest-givers at least.

If we're called by our last names like we were in DAII, we probably won't have different families as backgrounds. But there are still plenty of reasons that you could be a Pentaghast (just as an example) and one would be a Circle mage, one would be a street urchin rogue that was separated from their family as a child, one would be a skilled warrior who had the best training their family upbringing had to offer, etc.

I'd presume that it'll be one Surname for all backgrounds (again, like Shepard). Whatever the Surname is, it'll have to have a good ring to it and sound good when being addressed by it constantly. Hawke and Shepard are prime examples. Pentaghast just doesn't role off the tongue in the same way.

I did some more reading in the World of Thedas book last night, and I could actually see our protagonist being a Pentaghast. Apparently there are tons of 'em, and they're all skilled leaders and capable dragon-hunters. Plus family connections abound.

That would be enough to get us started, I think.

Not to mention that the book went out of its way to pound us with the idea that all the mummies are possession-magnets. I think it's safe to bet on us being in the tomb-cities of Nevarra for some reason or other no matter what...

I think this is why the usual funeral right in Andrastian religion is the pyre. Not only do they get sent off in the same manner their most loved figure was but it also makes possession impossible. Kind of like in Supernatural; demons can take corpses for hosts and keep a fatally wound person walking and talking. Usually, burning the body, frees the ghosts and keeps demons from using it. So it's an understandable notion.

I think the fact that the Nevarrans know that by preserving their loved ones' bodies and building elaborate homes for them to kick around later they're setting them up to be corpses possessed by something else from the Fade, and they do it anyway, is suuuuper creepy.

Like, it's less creepy to me that it happens than it is creepy to me that the Nevarrans know that that's how it happens and are totally fine with it. Grandma isn't grandma anymore....! Image IPB

I agree! But then I also wasn't super duper impressed with "Hawke" either...

Unless we had some sort of cool nickname we answer to regardless of the protagonist's last name, like how Aragorn answered to Strider.

LOL, it'll be interesting to see our noob protagonist around a bunch of veterans. I quite like the idea that the group is full of seasoned professionals in their own field, especially if those listed in the survey leak are our companions:

Iron Bull is a seasoned merc/fighter
Cullen is a seasoned warrior/templar
Cassandra is a seasoned warrior/Seeker
Sera is a skilled and seasoned thief/rogue
Dorian is a skilled and seasoned Tervinter magister

And then there's our protagonist, who's a noob thrown into the Inquisition under (currently) unknown circumstances LOL!

I know I'm way late to this discussion but I found myself wondering if this Iron Bull guy would end up being Maraas, that leftover Tal-Vashoth guy that's chilling at the Hanged Man in Act 3. What are the odds? Image IPB

Also, that pic of Jason Momoa...  *drool* Who do we have to petition to get a companion that looks like that?

Cullen walks out of the dungeon with a fro... but in a kilt lol *o.O Confused, do not know how to feel*

No, no... the kilt comes later!!  Image IPB (in my fantasy...)

As for fro's.... I don't even know what to say.

Uhh, still catching up with the previous page. I felt kinda inspired, hence "Cullen for DA:I"!!

*though he looks kinda awkward, guess position would be hard to maintain*

I kinda liked Hawke as well. I know it was not very inspirational but Iiked how it sounded as a nickname.

I'm not sure about Mack and Kelly... I guess it depends on the protagonist's background, it's not very Fereldan though, for a Surname anyway LOL!

Sounds like someone's okay with being a Ferelden again.... Image IPB

I'd actually be happy with any of those names!

I thought we meant to have a choice of (unplayable) origins, so I assumed we'd have different surnames... But maybe it will be Shepard situation.

Judging by the way they went with "Hawke" as a Surname I'm expecting something that's supposed to be "badass".

I like Hawke and I like Pentaghast too and Sheppard. =D I have no good ideas for a new surname, though. I'm already using my favorite surname so... ;D

They'd have to record several variants of dialogue based on the Surname though, that's why I reckon it'll be one Surname but with lots of different backgrounds.

Draven would work, although they probably won't due to the Crow 'n' stuff, pity really.

Good point, though I thought it would be like with warden, they would title pc per "inquisitor" or such. Ok, I admit it sounds pretty crap

That was my thought, but I was thinking that it would be Orlesian. What was the surname for the Orlesian Warden-Commander for Awakening if you didn't import your own Warden?
