But I think if a templar was going to feature in DA3, luck would dictate it was Cullen. He seems to always be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You have a point there! The guy does have the worst luck ever!

Haha!  This is the best reason ever for why Cullen will be in DA3. Poor fellow.

Damn, four pages overnight again? I feel so left behind right now.

Anyway, I like the idea of Aonar. The party decide they want Cullen in their rag-tag motley crew, so they do a whole prison break thing and set Cullen free. At the moment, he's suffering lyrium withdrawal syndrome and is seriously questioning his belief in the Maker and the Order.

Meanwhile, if your character is trying to initiate a romance with him (in my case, it'll be a female Mage. I love the Mage class. And she better be an Amell or a Surana. Poetic justice), he's also conflicted about that. Cos, y'know, she's a Mage, he's a Templar, and she's also related to the Mage he was in love with all those years ago.

I'm a bit late to the party, I know. Damn time difference -_-

I love that idea!

I had a similar one a few pages back about our protagonist being imprisoned in the same place as him and as he/she is escaping we run into Cullen and set him free as well (or visa versa) then they proceed to escape together as a safety-in-numbers sorta thing.

That would be a perfect quest.

Broken Circle stripped Cullen of his ability to blindly trust mages. The Gallows stripped him of blindly trusting the Templar Order. All that Cullen has left is his faith in the Maker and the teachings of Andraste. Toss him in prison while he's going through lyrium withdrawal just might be one horrible thing that makes him question his faith. At that point, he's all ready for the "angst in his future" that DG has hinted at.

Also, even though we know a lot about Cullen so far, stripping his trust of the Order and the Maker leaves him much closer to a blank slate. Not a true blank slate but definitely highly moldable clay.

Oddly, despite being a huge Cullen fan (he is my favorite character in the series), I've sat on the fence as to whether or not I want him as a companion in DA3. But this idea -- prison and lyrium withdrawal (or something similar) stripping him of his faith in the Maker -- makes me want to see it happen.

Hahaha!  I think I am the only Cullen fan on the planet who doesn't want yet another Amell or Surana in his life. I know people find it romantic but I get a little bit weirded out by the idea of someone having a massive crush on one person and then later ending up with that person's cousin. Thus, I'll quietly sit alone off in the weeds, hoping that there are no more Amells playing major parts in the story.

Not only that but stripping him of his faith, or at least making him question it means that we get to know his personality more, rather than just what defines him from a professional point of view (which is the problem we had in DA2 with Fenris and Anders.)

See, I'm in two minds about the Amell thing. On one hand I like the idea that the Amell's are a special bloodline that creates heroes. On the other hand, I wouldn't want Cullen dating the Cousin of the person he "always wanted, but could never have"... it's just kinda awkward and cruel for both Cullen and the new protagonist. I want him to find someone completely new with no ties to his past, so he can have a fresh start.

This.  And it would be awesome.

I liked how Alistair wrestled with who he was in DAO and what his future could be. I'd like to see something similar in DA3.

Anders was an interesting character but the game's plot set him on a very specific path with a very specific outcome. It made for a good story, but I was one of those people who didn't really like the romance or the rivalmance.  (Actually, I wanted to combine elements of both in one playthrough...)

Fenris definitely has his fans and he is an interesting character but I never felt like I understood him. *shrugs*

Yeah Alistair's romance and story arc was damn near perfect (give or take a couple of things.) Anders romance felt very... fast, for someone that kept going on about how Hawke shouldn't get involved with him, he was quick enough to move in! Fenris I can understand because he couldn't remember anything about his past, but it would have been nice to have found out little bits and pieces about his past as it gradually came back to him.

I don't really have an opinion on whether Amells are a line of heroes or not. I found the connection mostly interesting because of the constraints it might put on some of the lore timing.  But, I would like for Cullen to, um, just get over Amell/Surana. Esp if there's any hope of romancing him in the future, I'd like for him to be able to look forward instead of back. So agree!

Agree, it would be great to get to know Cullen the way we did Alistair. I think all the DA2 romances lacked these little personal details, and some just seem like writing holes. Like Anders's line about  how Hawke can't expect him to hold back forever or something, suggesting there's been a lot more flirting than at least *I* got to see. For how interesting some of rivalry dialogue could be... I'd rather they just ditch it and spend those writing resources on an expanded friendship interaction.

I got the impression that he'd made his peace with the whole Amell/Surana thing by the time we hit Act 2, so by the time DA3 happens he should be more than ready to become infatuated with the new protagonist lol. I just hope that he becomes equally as enthralled with our new character (preferably more enthralled than he was with the Warden) because I'd love for him to find a like minded person who will be as into him as he is with them.

For something else that hasn't been seen here, thighhighdalish is an amazing artist and she's been creating steampunk versions of the DA characters.

This is steampunk Cullen!

(My favorite piece of thighhigh's Cullen art will probably break terms of agreement here... but you can find all of her many, many, many Cullens in various stages of progress on her cullen tag. If you click back through her pages of Cullen art, there are some amazing Cullen/Dalish pics)

That's my impression as well. I think I'm also just personally over Amell/Surana. LOL It was a crush. It was character building. It is over.:D

Plus I miss our companions giving you a right royal bollocking if they hated you, I remember watching Alistair's reactions to you if he hates you on YouTube and omg it was so harsh! With the whole rivalry thing in DA2 we didn't get that because they still wanted to get in your pants, it also made them too easy to pursue romantically, which cheapened things for me.
