What is the new page 2000 topic?

Sorry, mmg -- I missed this earlier! You can find it here. :D

Nobody has to follow the theme -- it's just for creative inspiration or whatever. But I'd love to see something Cullen / Fenris-y since you probably know Fenris' character best!

Yeah I did some searching and found it! ^_^ And should I be embarrassed to admit I immediately thought of doing Cullen/Fenris banter? tee-hee 8D

i wonder why we wouldn't be getting a female dwarf companion? that makes no sense. we always have a dwarf. what difference would it make?

I was kinda hoping for sigrun, but i adore dagna , too

Most probably engine problems. I'd imagine it would cost an immense amount of resources to make a female dwarf for the engine. You have to keep in mind this is the first time they're doing a game on a new engine. I'll bet we don't see a female Quanari either(not the human ones).

I always thought Mass Effect did a great job at mixing your companions up with the rich universe. Asari, Krogan, Turian, etc. It's hard to imagine DA:I will be loaded with human companions as that survey leak shows.

more than varric or oghren?

Maybe because I'd imagine they have to design her from the ground up inside the engine. That's why we probably didn't see any in DA2. They're using a new engine again so...

I can't say for sure but it seems like the logical reason why we didn't see one in DA2. Time constraints and not enough time to allocate the resources in the engine for something like that.

But if Dagna is in DA3...then that leaves much hope that we can get a female/male dwarf companion.

Well, Deuce, I truly hope, and what can I say..expect there to be a dwarf--a femdwarf at that.

It doesn't have to be a female dwarf just to be female. It's just 2 great characters that happen to be femdwarves that I would love to have as companions.

with that...thank you and goodnight!

You know what has me worried about that survey leak? No dwarf character. I think that would pretty much confirm no chance at seeing a place like Kal-Sharok in Orlais. Most likely an engine constraint.

Decided to check the thread for fun and see this.

While I'm not sure exactly to what extent Bioware has market-based research influence them, they're usually never conclusive and often present very basic premises for people completely unrelated to a franchise to evaluate and "feel". Although the concept art might remain legit, characters and priorities shift and you may result with something different.

Survey fillers are extremely picky, they're usually going to answer very generically because the entire purpose is appealing to the majority of people. Unfortunately, dwarves are very niche and--although BioWare might not do this--can be "concealed".

For example, tald old guy with the spear? His entire concept could be about  Qunari but the average person who'll fill the survey wouldn't know what a Qunari is and thus had the concept art redrawn to appear human and get their beliefs on the character's design and description without having to explain the entire backstory.

In addition to this, concept art doesn't mean it's only for companions. They might be evaluating concept art for key characters and antagonists over some companions who were still in the pipeline at the time, an antagonist's design is just as vital as the player must recognize them.

Now, I'm not sure if BioWare does deception and I wouldn't like to hold up some false hope but that doesn't mean to become discouraged, surveys often mean very little when it comes to character design and descriptions. I've had to do quite a bunch for other companies, some which half the presented designs never made it past development.

About the dwarven city under Orlais, shameless plug here where I talk about the Stone Golem in Dragon Age 2 which mentions the Stone beneath Orlais and a bunch of other things.

I actually remember seeing that thread Dave lol. Very good post. I agree and I don't think it really means much. I'm just hoping for diversity in races with companions. Fantasy games are about learning about the world, lore, culture, society, etc. Who better to do that than through a companion who's that race? I just always find playing human characters a little boring to me in fantasy RPGs. It's not a dealbreaker by any means but I like seeing Thedas through the eyes of another race.

Apparently I'm in the minority though. Bioware doesn't seem to think it's that important when compared to other features. :crying:

But I guess I'll agree with them on customization. I'd much rather a ton more customization options on my character if it meant sacrificing race.

I completely get where you're coming from, deuce, that the new engine and lack of resources might be an excuse, but what those excuses essentially amount to is "We're selling you an incomplete game" and I'm pretty fed up with it. :/

Yea, I get that too. That's why I'm hoping Bioware takes all the time they need with DA:I. The more time Bioware has the more they can do with the game. I'm a bit pessimistic they'll make the date of late 2013. Something just tells me the game is too big for it to come out so soon for them. IMO, March 2014 and I'm sticking to that date until they prove me otherwise. :D

That's not really a negative in my mind. More time the better.

LOL, nope! I think there'd be an empty space in my day if you didn't! Image IPB

Seriously, I'm really excited about this one. So much potential for fun, intriguing stuff! And character studies galore!! *happy wiggle*

And deuce, I agree with you. In fact I think that humans are boring. But I also know that since Bioware has used female dwarves in the past, they have the building blocks necessary to make them work. And since they've been built into the lore and used once already, there are only two excuses that hold any water for not including them: laziness or lack of time. Neither are acceptable.

I'm cool with a later release date. Even more cool with it if they actually release bits of info up until then. Image IPB

If it makes any of you feel any better, that elf archer is about as generic as it gets with no distinct design decisions and no facial features at all. I'd be surprised if they didn't replace her completely with someone else or made another design which looks completely different.

Compare he to, say... Cullen. Distinct outfit, distinct facial features and the art itself feels "finished". The fact they introduced someone recognizable just solidifies Cullen's role in the game, meaning he's all but implemented and they're looking for thoughts on his costume design instead of the character itself.

Same with Cassandra and the Warden (but he's a newcomer, his design could be modified to greater extents).

Funny, someone was just wondering a few pages back what a non-Cullenite would think should one come in here, and then in pops Dave. Just for fun.

I'm hopeful that if he's in the game (or even if he isn't) the writers will do a decent job of showing the respectable side of the Chantry. Though part of me knows deep down that no matter how reasonable, necessary, or even kind some of the Chantry folk are portrayed as, there will be plenty of BSN folks who are quick to ignore it or twist it around as evil.  Image IPB

Quite frankly, I wouldn't bother using "if" at this point. Gaider appreciates the Cullen fandom, Greg Ellis all but confirmed he's back in the reins, we've got near-final concept art and DA:I is the best spot to drop Cullen into the companion roster as he's got a ton of potential. :P

I'm going to assume Cullen is going to be the type of character who's caught up in a crossroads, not knowing which side to follow considering he's been betrayed by both. At most, I can imagine the player can convince him to become similar to Asunder's Evangeline which will be enough to satisfy everyone who hates him right now.

Everyone? Oh no, my friend... I can hear Xilizhra's impending "Too little, too late." Image IPB But I hope you're right about the majority. It is funny how none of our companions have been historically anything but hopelessly flawed, yet one of the main complaints about Cullen as a companion is how broken he's been!

Design decision probably taken from the popularity of Game of Thrones television series. Might make more sense if we play the game and it's winter, I don't want to imagine Cullen walking around with something to keep him warm during the middle of summer.

It's Sprint Review Day! What will we be teased with this time?
