Don't recall where I found this, but here's the whole image, big.

Thanks! Hadn't seen the full version.

FYI, it's on dragonage.com at the bottom. It's the background image there. They also have a nice description of the game.

Saying that, if Varric is a companion, I doubt he'll be romanceable. Gotta remember Bianca.

I'm confused about what the red lyrium (?) ring could be also...but can we talk about that awesome helmet for a minute?! That thing is dead sexy and I want it!

With all the dragon motif, and how the protagonist was intruduced stumbling through a desert... possibly having just woken up under mysterious circumstances or something like that? It makes me wonder if s/he'll have some connection to the dragons beyond potentially fighting them.

Making my first amell/cullen card, crap it's hard to do

yeah, I hear ya! Couples are always a lot harder draw for me.

It's not the drawing couples part that's hard for me. It's the tiny tinie space i have to do it in. If it was a regular piece of paper. Pfft no prob full detail and everything...but yeah...

Ah, I see. I always have an easier time with proportions on a smaller scale, but facial expressions prove to be tricky. I envy that you have no trouble drawing couples otherwise. I have never been confident with it. I've been forcing myself to do more couple and group works since it's something I need to work on.

Been trolling this thread since it was back in the 700s.  Amazing how fast it's flown.  Image IPB  Almost 2000 pages in such a short time.  This will certainly pass the Anders thread probably by the end of this month at this rate.  Not bad for an NPC.  Certainly safer here than in the other forums it seems and probably the best thread I've seen on any forum I've ever been on.  I'm really shocked the trolls from the DA3 forum don't poke around in here, especially with the various devs posting here from time to time.  Granted, maybe the Cullen in pink fur, the bow, etc put them off. Image IPB

Looking at that Varric picture and rewatching the trailer, it seems the body can either be:
1.) His brother Bartrand perhaps trying to redeem himself after the red lyrium incident in DA2.  The Fade rips wide open.  I doubt they're going to be picky about who fights against the demons.
2.) Hawke.  Bit of a cop out on his/her appearance, though.  But if Hawke's dead, then begs the question of their love interest and the Warden.
3.) Isabella.  Varric was pretty close with her.
4.) Alistair.  Varric did spend time with him during the comics.
5.) Perhaps a new woman in his life that we're unaware of.
6.) A tie-in person to the comics.

If Varric ends up a companion and romance interest along with Cullen, I'lI have to say that I'll have a hard time picking who to go for first.  Never had an issue in other Bioware games.  Always went for Carth, Alistair, Kaidan, and Anders.  I tried Bastilla, Leliana, Zevran, Ashley, Liara, Garrus, Samantha, Fenris, and Isabella, but wasn't too happy with any of them.  Varric and Cullen are tough to pick between.  Cullen seems to me the guy that would dote on you and try to keep you safe.  Varric seems like the guy who's more interested in keeping you smiling and happy while trying to make a quick buck on the side.

On the guy shown in the dust storm at the end, he looks a lot like the survey leak of the male protagonist.  The shape around the shoulders looks similar to me making me really think that is indeed the male protagonist.  Seems quite a few things from that survey have come true, so I wouldn't be too surprised if much of the rest is true as well.  Granted, some maybe changed like maybe one character got ditched in favor of an old favorite companion such as Varric or they opted to add a few additional ones.  I'd be curious who the DLC companion will be since Bioware's notorious for doing one.

As for the rest of the trailer, I'm amazed that it was in game footage.  The graphics are certainly astounding.  I'm sure Morrigan was CGI made specifically for the trailer, but the rest was likely in game.  If this is what they have now, in another 18 months, the game should be really amazing.  I'm not happy with the 2014 date, but patience is a virtue and the wait surely won't be for naught.  Image IPB

Makes me wonder what other little tidbits we'll start to see in the coming months leading up to the final release next year.  But hopefully we won't go through 6+ month dry spells with nothing but vague tweets during Sprint Review Day.  They should maybe give us a little puzzle.  Like give us a piece of an image once a week that we can piece together over time that reveals either a character or a location.  It could take 1-4 months to fully reveal something depending on how many pieces they break an image down to.  If the game's out in 18 months, they could give us anywhere from 4-18 reveals.  Image IPB  Do believe there was a comment during Sprint Review Day of a CSI: Dragon Age.  Giving us puzzle pieces would certainly bring out the puzzle solving side of people and keep them occupied for a while.  Perhaps even spread pieces around so some pop up on Twitter, some on Facebook, some on the official site, and maybe some on fan sites which would cause fans to go hunting for the pieces as well.  I play an obscure little hidden object series called Mystery Case Files and every year the forum moderators play a little game with the fans in the month leading up to that year's game release.  It's become a tradition that the forums look forward to.  They put up various clues ranging from numbers, parts of a picture, word plays, poems, etc.  Each clue links to the new game revealing plot, characters, or locations.  One of the clues for the game that came out 2 years ago was published in a tiny town in Great Britain's newspaper but yet was still found by fans ... and it was the same day the clue was published, too.  Image IPB  Certainly keeps the fans entertained and makes them come back year after year.  Bioware does like puzzles so revealing a few tidbits from DA3 in puzzle form would be entertaining.

I ramble too much so back into the shadows to wait for more DA3 stuff.  Image IPB

Argh it was amazing.

I really doubt Varric is a companion (sadly), though I'm chuffed to buggary he's going to be in it. I thought everything looked great, including Morrigan (the still version, as everyone's said, her lip syncing and movement was pretty dire.)

There's only two things missing in this trailer. 1) I would say is pretty obvious considering the thread we're in, and 2) SANDAL! I like to think he made the shiny ring ("You like the shiny?")

Saying that, if Varric is a companion, I doubt he'll be romanceable. Gotta remember Bianca.

Oh Maker, I broke down in tears at the thought. :crying:

Anyway, I kinda doubt he'll be an LI as well - it would be awesome if he was, of course. Used to, I didn't want him as an LI; but as I got to know him...I swear, that chest hair pulled me in.

Poor guy. I can only imagine something bad happened to "Bianca" to make him so dedicated to the cossbow. Or maybe he just has a crossbow fetish. :P If he is a companion, I'd love to have him around.

Regarding speculation of the ring: I find it fascinating that out of all the rings, that one is the one that stands out. Of course something has to. It's the same color as the dragon's eye, I've noticed. And it may be wise to note that it's on the ring finger, which is said has the artery leading straight to the heart (which is why a wedding band is always on a ring finger).

As someone said, we may come to the conclusion that the Inquisitor may have something to do with the dragons. We have the other allainces there that may turn around the world's end: templar, mage, seeker. Dragons, as some lore suggest, may be able to speak or be able to reason. If they have come from the Fade as the trailer suggests...hmmm...

EDIT: I'd also like to point out:

The Seeker ring is on the finger that stemmed the phrase "wrapped around your little finger."
The Mage ring is on the "bird" finger.
The Templar ring is on the finger commonly used to point in accusation.

Oh come on, who doesn't love half-naked Cullen in pink fur or totally naked Cullen with red bow over naughty bits

Okay I did read your whole post; it was just a matter of deciding what to quote 8D Well on who it was Varric was gazing at, BW's usual way of handling things suggests that it would be Hawke; I hope to god this isn't the case, not just because I passionately adore my Hawke, but also because that is just such a cop-out ending to, like, an entire game. And they have already crapped out on DA2 in regards to DLC, so this would just be the proverbial straw, camel's back, yadda yadda.

But I'm hoping it's not Hawke and is just an indication of the terrible destruction Varric is witnessing. As the storyteller of DA2, I guess we have to assume that he stuck around Kirkwall for a bit. So it makes sense that he's the one seen gazing at the ruins. This all means nothing if the ruins isn't actually post-Kirkwall (Chantry BOOM) and is post-something else apocalyptic.

Varric as LI, I think I would be, well, remember that straw and that camel's back? LOL That would leave me only Cullen, let's just leave it at that. And they have already taken so much away from me *sniffle* with my playable races and what not. I couldn't handle that. BW you can't give us two macho male LI; that just ain't right bro.

I don't think Varric will even be a companion; I think he'll be more of an NPC that we can visit and who will perhaps give us advice on stuff... same with Cassandra. This makes me sad :( I was totes looking forward to having Cass as my bro in this game. Looks like she's too high and mighty to be traveling about the countryside with our ragtag group (though it's looking like it won't be so ragtag; still, I maintain the faint hope that it will... BW, please don't make my character start out all bad****!! I wanna be a street rat or a country bumpkin, thanks and please!

Everyone in the trailer looked fine except Morrigan, cause yeah I think she was made just for the trailer and it was rushed and it showed. Varric looked the best. Cass had a few shots, but a few not so great ones. Qunari guy, well you already know how I feel about that itty bitty teeny tiny impossibly small head and those GIGANTIC MASSIVE SHOULDERS but hey at least his face looked great.

I think though that if you go to dragonage.com you can see the rings are on different fingers in each pic.

I'm not too worried about the characters physical appearance at the moment, they're likely to change and tweak them over the course of a year anyway. I mean, just look at the early DA2 reveal images of Varric and Cassandra:

They're all on the same fingers from what I can tell. If those kind of thoughts went into the position of the rings, then WOW. That is some badarse detail.

...So I just noticed there's another ring on the thumb. I wonder what insignia is on that one? Grey Wardens is the only other faction I can think of at the moment.

 Surely I'm not crazy! ...A-Am I?  It looks like in the pic where the hand is holding the helmet, the mage ring is on the pointer finger. But on the bottom pic, the one holding the sword, the mage ring is on the middle finger. And so on and so on.

Oh, yes! There's also... Trevinter, I guess would have it's own emblem? I'm not sure if it would be involved to that kind of extent, though. I think at this current time I'm leaning towards Qunari or Grey Wardens, seeing that would link with the trailer better? But then Cassandra DID stab the map over near the Dales. Maybe they're purposely keeping the ring on the thumb secret for reasons and conspiracies~~
