I've never let Bethany be taken to the Tower because she isn't allowed to eye out Cullen. GW for her. I almost always play as a mage though, so she isn't even a consideration. I love my mean, growly Carver. <3 When I discovered his character I couldn't go back to Bethany. She's just too nice. I like the conflict with little bro.

Oops, Top. Gala's lovely art!

If Cullen had been the penultimate boss in the mage ending instead of Orsino, would it have made the game objectively worse?

I would NEVER side with the mages if that were the case.  I would never hurt my Cullybug.

Hey, he started trying to kill you first. Also potentially kidnapped your sister.

That's why I meta game - Wardens get Bethany, I side with the templars and the cute guy wouldn't need to get hurt.

That is properly the worst reason for siding with the templars that I have ever heard... I think that I should just back away. Cullen fans is more scary than Cullen... Posted Image

Eh, I suppose my reaction to Cullen in the mage ending is more "you ****ing hypocrite" than most other peoples' here. Though I admit that having Cullen be a boss would badly skew the templar/mage siding statistics, it seems.

Oh a shiny new Cullen thread!

I loved Cullen in DA:O and more so in DA2 - I hope that Bioware has some nice plans for him and that he will become a LI.

And I don't want to fight or kill him - if this is going to happen I would stop playing the game to avoid this.

Me too.  I would get so mad that I would crack the disk in half and never have anything else to do with the game.

I'm kind of sad he can never be with the mage warden, that's who he really belongs with (IMO)

There are plenty of other reasons, that just tips the scales.

Sorry to have frightened you.

I think the individual take on Cullen really hangs on what kind of character you are role-playing. I have had PC's who hated him and everything he stood for (my revolutionary, hard-core pro-mage), and I have also played as a mage who thought he was great (appease the templars and make nice with everyone Hawke).

Just because someone chooses a different path for their character doesn't make them "stupid" or "wrong". It's just a different way to play the game. That's the beauty of these kinds of games, there really is no right or wrong way to do it. Real life morality and ethics aside, this is still a game and open to individual interpretation.

People are passionate about how they play, and that's great! As long as we respect other players and don't throw stones because someone chose to RP differently.

Wasn't the point of a new thread to have a clear fan thread for Cullen instead of "hey, let's have another debate on mage vs. templar or whether Cullen is a kidnapper!"

Just saying. I think those things could go elsewhere.

Hey, I'm just one of those guys that wishes Cullen was a woman...or he could at least introduce my Hawke to his sister...just saying. :)

It would be cool if Cassandra was his sister.

I think I wrote somewhere, before I finished DA2 for the first time, that my biggest fear was to fight Cullen. I would just let him kill Hawke. The end :) I prefer Cullen to Hawke :) I love men with mental disorders and dead women in the closet.

I'm glad BioWare spared my Hawke. ;)

Now seriously: battle against Cullen was impossible, because Cullen always supports Hawke's point of view. I don't know why. Maybe as his disappointment in Meredith grows, he's looking for another person with enough power to oppose her and bring templars back to their initial course. I hope the movie about seekers will answer some questions. Or new DLC.

Nooo,  I love discussions, they give us more pages and boost Cullen's popularity, so I welcome all sorts of black PR :P

Now you have my brain on tilt trying to imagine Cullen as a woman.

Cass as his sister would be kinda funny though. They must have been twins separated at birth- he was raised in Ferelden while she grew up in Orlais. She was the hard one and he's the softie. (Now I'm hearing Leliana saying "Softie!")

Now that would be interesting, Rak. ;)

But seriously, I like Cullen for reasons going back to Origins. IIRC he tells a mage warden that their harrowing was his first, and more poignant if that mage is a woman, one he has a crush on. I got the impression that Gregoir placed him there on purpose to test his resolve. Could he do what was necessary despite his feelings for that mage? We talked before how Greagoir cares for his mages, but is also strong-willed enough to take what he deems necessary. And he has a mutual respect for Irving. And then Udred runs amok with his small band and throws the Circle in Ferelden into chaos. Cullen is essentially tortured. To see him come back in DA2 as a stronger and more mature Templar was refreshing and probably the only retcon (I got the "crazy" epilogue slide most of the time) I like from one game to the next. I see him leaning more towards becoming a Greagoir type person than before. I'm not sure him becoming an LI would be good overall for his character, however, but would be interested to see what he becomes should he become one.

edited for typos

It would be like that Jean Claude Van Damm movie where he was a twin.  The one twin ended up with a french accent because he was given to some french nuns to be raised.  So Cassandra could have been given to an Orlesian chantry when she was a baby.

Or  mabe an Orlesian couple adopted her during the war, then went back to Orlais.  Cullen stayed in Fereldan and was raised in the chantry there.

I'll just say this. A LadyHawke/Cullen romance would have been interesting, especially if she was a mage.

Funny you should say that about imagining him as a woman...back when I was in the test group for the Cullen minimance mod...let's just say this pic shows an experiment gone wonky...

You have an excellent start of a writing prompt here. You could make up an entirely different heritage for Cullen based on this premise. Ain't imagination fun? :P

LMAO!!!!
*Suddenly, the male mage!Warden perks up with interest*
Warden: "Cullen, you look...different."
Cullen: "I..." *startles at the higher tone of his voice*
Warden: "Why don't we go into the storage room for a private chat?"
Cullen: *runs away* "Greagoir, help meeeee!"
Warden: *casts paralysis glyph*
Warden: "Let me show you some real magic, baby!"
Cullen: *screams*
Cullen: *sits up in bed and wipes the sweat from his brow*
Cullen: "Thank the Maker! What a terrible dream."
Desire Demon:  *floats into view* "The dream isn't over yet, my helpless darling..."
Cullen: *screams*
